Such a magical song, Criminally underrated
Incredible musicians. Nothing before or after has been this unique.
the greatest B side track of all time
Took the girl next door to see bc back in 1982 . They played at the HollywoodPalladium . I dreaded taking her because I thought bc was so dorky. I was so wrong ! We were squashed against the stage could barely breathe and loved it. They were so great. That show was one of my all time favorites . Been one of my favorite bands ever since then. God bless stuart
I saw them on their Crossing tour and it is probably the best show I've ever seen. Mick Jagger remarked that they were best opening act the RS ever had.
My favourite gig of all time was also the first time I saw BC live, as an 18 year old, The Seer Tour, April 1986, Manchester Apollo.
@@IqbalHamid the good Old days 😷👍
@@Rutlefan Of course they were. An awesome and talented band👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻
The One and Only BIG COUNTRY..."While mom's away Big Country will play"...Favorite band of all time!
As I was playing my electric bass guitar tonight (Hofner) I stumbled onto a mighty riff. Angle Park! Tony Butler is da man.
For years and years, I never knew where Angle Park was, i know now, I drove past it every day of the week
Had the pleasure of seeing BC many times during their golden period. They were probably the best live band I've ever seen. They reached parts of the arena other bands could only dream of reaching. Stuart was just brilliant as a performer/front man but the band behind him were as tight as a ducks rear end and superb musicians too. In this age of bloody computer based music we are lucky to look back on bands like BC and appreciate proper musicianship and song writing. P.S. Angle Park is the bollocks.
i agree
Probably the best band in the world
@@billybynorth7467 yeah, I agree with you on that
Well said and I couldn't agree more.
1985 the year I woke up to BIG COUNTRY
1983 for me!😊
brilliant,,,,absolutely brilliant,,,,,and a b side,,,,,blimey,,,,,,,,always loved it
My 1st gig at 15 they whipped the crowd into a moving wave the didn’t stop until the encore was finished brilliant debut as good as any debut
This song transcends eras....period
Great song to play when driving long distances, gotta love that sound, brilliant single release too
Love this song pure class❤
never understood why they never opened with this great sound gets your juices flowing stayalive bro
I love this band
this is a ***kin great song.
I'm hearing this original version for the very first time right now, on 20 June 2020 - after having known the song for 30 years or so, from watching the 'Barrowlands' VHS :-))
The autumn howled around the heads
That hung so slack, with lips so red
The blooms had withered leaves were shed
Tongues stick in jaws, sad clowns parade
The crushing whine began it calls
And pointed fingers at us all
In Angle Park, the lights are dimmed
The statues grin
In Angle Park, the fountains crack
In Angle Park
The beaten cry behind white dress
The clowns stuck fast upon the mesh
While mothers wring their hands of tears
The spelling books are in arrears
The evil genius hugs his wife
As tiles ring with fear of life
The window fills with beating hearts
Beat on blindly beat it all
The Angle Park, the lights are dimmed
The statues grin
In Angle Park, the fountains crack
In Angle Park
In Angle Park, the lights are dimmed
The statues grin
In Angle Park, the fountains crack
In Angle Park
Thnx, dude ❤
Love it, quite brilliant
Missing you! Still inspiring me.Respect
We love Stuart!
another brilliant song
Yeah the neigbours got this big time on my speakers first thing in morning back in the day. Best song on the album to turn up and wake thee in the morning.
Saturday, 4-8-2017 First time I ever heard this by Big Country ------ AWESOME !!! I can't sit still listening to this !!
mamothcar1 This is a great song. I don't know why they didn't release it back in the days.
BRZEZICKI
Sounds like he may have a China cymbal in his set-up, too! 😄 😉
Nice guy, too.
I just totally love this song
just amazing, no more to be said :) x
First time hearing this...very good song
Thank you so much, BC.
One of my favorite! Kudos for the sound engineer. Great mixing!
Yes!
very good
Another example of a BC B-side that should have been a single! Belief in the Small Man and Song of the South a couple other examples of this. Always thought the choice of singles torpedoed the band...East of Eden better on radio than Tall Ships Go or Great Divide? Hold the Heart over Remembrance Day? My favorite band since the 80s, someone explain why no US/Aussie tour for Peace in Our Time (even though album recorded in LA and videos shot in Australia)? You're already in country, why not play a few teaser dates in major cities at least even if the album/vids weren't complete? No wonder album didn't do squat in the States. Need to get out and play to American audiences or you are soon forgotten by the masses. Strange management choices IMO. Aw well, the music lives on..Angle Park top five track for sure!
I still do not understand why this track was not included in the first release of The Crossing. There must have been a rational reason for Stuart Adamson to have made this choice, along with the producer, but I do not see it. I believe that it was composed as the same time.
this song dates at least a year before fields of fire, in a big country, chance etc. When this, heart and soul and the crossing were the basis of their live sets they couldn't get a record deal. So the tunes probably seemed jinxed to the band by the time they got a chance to do a record.
Musicão!
Should always have been a single, what an uplifting number. As with a lot of my favourite bands, some of the single releases baffled me,but hey,its still better than a lot of shit brought out today. There was a flexi 7'' of this released in '86 that I used to have, but I think it was a live version.
I definitely have it as a single with "All of us" on the flip side.
@@Spacekriek "All Of Us" was a brilliant song - could easily have been a single itself, same as "Angle Park"
🎶✨🙌Thanks so much ✨🙌🎶
wonder around a public park at midnight, indifferent to the fact that the gates of the park will be locked until morning...tis what I hear. not that ive actually ever done that. or intend to.
I Used to think (when I was 14 in 84)it was “it Ain’t going to work” not “ In Angle park” 😂…..won’t say what I think the evil genius was doing to his wife 🤣
Not quite right but a good effort.
I have never heard a Big country song I didn't like.
However this one sounds a lot like joy division!!!!!!!
...and the guitar sang 'love will tears us apart again' on a big country b-side. the evil genius is still hunting his wife, perhaps.
