Very useful and informative video. I just did the rotor replacement and I can tell you that you definitely need the C clamp. Also I had to go out and buy a breaker bar for the 15 mm bolt. I have no pneumatic tools so it was necessary. Very easy if you have the right tools. Thanks for posting.

@markgildersleeve Thanks for the post, yeah I've even got a few mechanics that use my videos to cut down the time it takes them to do a job. I am happy to help anyone save time, and saving time saves money!
@MustangGTR2 Thank you for checking out our auto repair channel on UA-cam. We currently do not have an auto repair video that shows this paticular repair on a Ford Ranger truck.
This video is really good. I just changed front pads and rotor on my 2003 Ford Explorer. Pretty much the same except Caliper bolt needs 14mm wrench and bracket needs 18mm wrench. I also discovered when one of the bracket bolts wouldn't break loose that the Lug wrench is the same size and worked great to loosen the bolt. Also be sure to remove the cap on the brake fluid reservoir before attempting to push the pistons back in.
@labarronnieva It may not work as well as it should if this is the case. If you can't get it to collapse all of the way with your clamp, you could also try to crack the bleeder while you try to collapse the caliper to see if that helps. If it does, then make sure you bleed the brakes one last time once everything is back together. Hope this helps you out.
Do you have video here or your web page for replacing Calipers as well as rotors/pads for 98 Explorer? Must be AWD, cuz I don't have to turn anything on wheel and works in snow! Thanks a lot.
If you can't get the caliper back over the brake rotor you may have to compress the caliper in some more with a c-clamp. This will give you the extra clearance so that you can get the brakes back on.
@Joeflo120 The AWD may have a slightly different setup however the basics should be the same as far as how to unbolt things, collapse the piston in the caliper and replace the rotor. Unless you crack the bleeders you shouldn't get air in the brake lines while changing a set of brake pads and rotors. If you have a hard or really soft pedal then it's may be a good idea to bleed the brakes a few times to see if there's any air in the lines.
@0scarsky Yeah you turn enough wrenches and you are bound to break the skin. Doing rakes on an ABS equipped vehicle is not different from a non ABS.. The sensors are not in any of the parts you remove during this procedure.
Thanks for this guys. Was easier than buying a Chilton's or Haynes manual to get the right torque specs and stuff. Had a brake job at Precision Tune before I left Florida and they forgot to put a mounting bolt back on my brakes. You guys saved my truck :)
We currently do not have a video that shows you how to replace just the calipers in a 2001 Pontiac Grand AM. We'll keep this in mind if we end up making this repair in the future.
Great video! Thanks a lot! Did everything exactly how you said and not a problem whatsoever. Had no idea how to do it at first but you saved me a lot of money.
I notice no one ever stresses bleeding the brakes. Is that like a once in a great while thing? Or what? A coworker just mentioned that to me so I got worried maybe I should do that too?
I have a 2000 ford explorer and it also has the center cap with pin and bolt to get the rotor off. i guess this means i need different rotors than the ones you use in the video???? Please help.

Thanks for your videos! They have helped me with so many DIY repairs. But I'm stumped on this one. I removed the calipers and the 2 bolts on the caliper bracket but I can't get the front rotors off. Am I missing something? Could they be rusted onto the hub?
+Tim Schell They should come off as shown in the video. Sometimes you have to hit the back of the rotor with a hammer to break them free. They excessive heat can make them a bear to get off on some applications. 1aauto.com
hey 1A 2 questions, i have an 03 explorer xls AWD does it matter if you have an AWD 4x4 or it's all the same ...thanks.. gonna "try" to do my own tomorrow oh and also what's with gettin air in your brake line is that common when changing pads and rotors ..? thanks again..
My brakes are locking up right after I start driving in my '99 Ford Ranger. After I use and pump them a bit, it goes away. This usually seems to happen after a) my truck's been sitting a while, and b) it's been raining or really humid. Could my calipers be shot?
Instead of pushing in each caliper piston in individually you can use put the brake pad on the Pistons and use the C clamp to push them both in at the same time
Question, how important is it to use a torque wrench? I did my fronts on my silverado and everything came out good except I did not use a torque wrench.
So when you added the grease, did you just add it where the brakes slide in or did you grease the slider pins as well? I've heard to make sure and do this to avoid it seizing up.
Also, do you guys happen to have a tutorial for the hub/rotor assembly version? I guess on the 99 model of mine, there were two types. My rotors have the wheel bearings inside them. (old school) And I'm afraid they are going out as well as the brakes. I guess it's good in a sense that I'll hit it all in one job...But I haven't taken it apart yet and I don't know if it will be a simple swap and hang...or more importantly what all I will need to order to get the job done. Thanks.

I paid a "mechanic" last year to install front brake pads. This year when I turn right only about 20 mph or above im hearing squealing, and I thinknit comes from left side. What Im reading inline is the brake clips could have become. What side should I check (turn right sounds like left side squeal) From what I read online removing rotors require rrmoving an axle nut but not what im seeing in your video.
Thanks for checking us out. There could be multiple reasons why you're having this particular problem. Not usually. If the pedal is hard or really soft, then you may need to bleed them to get any air pockets out of the system.

@2x2is22 I would try bleeding them first with a buddy to see if there's any air trapped in them.
You should replace them both together, so that the old pads do not make any gouges in the old rotors.
