I've had one for 5 weeks, the 2020 ES ADAS, got it for $46,500 new with tow bar. Once you taste EV for suburban run-arounding, you won't want to go back.
@@CarSauce Good afternoon Matt ! I hope by 2022 NZ are able to source the PHEV RAV4 SUV. If not I think this vehicle will suffice. It will still be better than the 2003 RAV4 which I have owned since new. Auckland. NZ
Driving the PHEV for almost 4 years, I can say that it is a very trustful car, very comfortable to drive and highly relaxing on long distances with about 7.2-7.5 l/100km in Save mode, considered driving at 120-130km speed. I had the Outlander diesel from 2014 for about 5.5 years before that had not been more efficient on diesel consumption than the PHEV in combined electric and fuel driving. Either way, 2 tons will have to be moved. As mentioned, the MMCS has its miracles. Although in reality, on a daily basis, I use far less features of the car than it actually brings in. It is straight and easy to load and drive. Recuperation is fun to use and earning surprisingly much energy on a route.
The tiny recessed compartment is for the keyfob; you actually RECHARGE the keyfob battery in there, essentially making sure you NEVER run out of battery to open/lock/start your car. Neat, I find ?!
This is perhaps my favourite of the Outlander PHEV reviews (alongside Autogefuhl's Germanic comprehensiveness). You review with character and enthusiasm, and I like that. Ultimately, this car is an appliance, but a really nice appliance that happens to pollute a whole lot less. We got a new (10km on the clock) medium-spec 2019 model with slightly smaller 12kWh battery, but it came in at just $37k. Can you get a cheaper EV in Australia? We're taking delivery in a few days so I can't speak to the details, but you've captured the feel of this vehicle well. BTW, SA plates in Melbourne? I presume this was a Mitsubishi press vehicle, but I'd love to know the story there. Also good job of doing the review and staying within your allocated boundaries!
Thanks for the comment! Great buy at $37k 🙂 Yes it's a press vehicle, they cycle it around the states and that was just here at the time! You'll see I have a lot cars especially with NSW plates 😁
I already love this SUV! But the 50 km battery is disappointing! Yas. I think most of people wants to drive the PHEV cars all the day electrically & gasoline only for emergencies! They should have shrinked gasoline engine components for the batteries capacity. It'll be on my list until they increase batteries capacity. & I hope they enhance the range even more with the upcoming sold state batteries!
@@CarSauce £44,225 = 80K AUD and add to that 20% VAT that’s Outlander PHEV exceeded safety trim so be more than 82K AUD. www.mitsubishi-motors.co.uk/cars/outlander-phev
You are missing in your review the fact that this car loses the acceleration when is going up hills for more than 10 miles since the cell battery gets depleted and at that point, the fan stop working and gets overheated. Did you try to go up hills in this car for more than 10 miles?
Not for an extended period of time Alex! Unfortunately where I am we have tight lockdowns now and so I can't go further than 5km from my home 😔. Though I think my mentioning of only passive cooling should suffice as a warning to do more research to make sure it's right for you 😊
Does anyone have problems whit the parkering sensor? .. and the little lamp on the display the motor ligth goes on all the time?? I dont know what to do whit my car.
I have this car and I find it to be straight up ugly for sure. But so far, it's been fun to drive anyway. Far different from the 2008 Nissan Xterra I gave up that got terrible mileage, drove like a tank, and had ZERO creature comforts.
Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV has a much worse fuel economy than Toyota RAV4 Prime PHEV when the battery is depleted since Toyota uses a parallel hybrid while Mitsubishi a serial one despite claiming being able to run in parallel. I wonder why you do not get on sale in Australia PHEVs from Hyundai/Kia and Ford, BMW and Volvo as well from VW/Audi, Mercedes Benz, Jaguar/Land Rover?
Yep totally agree, as said in the video if you want a fuel efficient car and you travel a lot, then a PHEV is not for you - the RAV4 hybrid is the best alternative for that! But I still get the appeal of the PHEV, it's for those who may only travel far once in a while and so the remaining time would rather be in an EV 😊
It does run in parallel mode at the speeds around 65 mph and higher. Fuel economy is all right even with the battery depleted (I get around 33 to 35 US mpg's), but it does lose some power.
No where for your phone....the centre console has two usb ports to plug your phone into so it can be run to the infotainment system...you call yourself a carviewer...ur driving a car your not supposed to have your phone in your hand.
Poor design. Unless you have an extra long cable to plug into the ports, and your happy to have a loose cable floating around, you have nowhere to put your phone
@@CarSauce no no mine has usb inside the central console you only need a very short cable the phone sits on the tray that inside..your phone is out of site from thieves and stop you from picking it up when you shouldn't.
Thumbs dow,n you didn't get serious and tell the poor suckers who buy one about it's biggest flaw !! This PHEV has the worst battery degradation of any PHEV in the world. The battery and BMU set up are flawed and have been for 8 years. PHEV users can expect to lose up to 20% of pure EV range in the first 12 to 18 months and it will keep dropping reducing the effectiveness of EV range. Shocking for economy and resale value. There are FB groups dedicated to trying to reset their batteries and monitoring losses. You knew about this flaw and decided not to report it - so you get a thunbs down as it appears you don't really care about your 2000 subscribers getting the "full story". Shame.
It happens only to some American models. The rest of the world Outlander PHEVs does not have BMU implemented. This is occasional fault of BMU, not the batteries itself.

I'm sure with the new gen they will improve the range 🙂
If you want the best 0-62 mph time just have your car fully charged or just charged trust me you will feel the difference
Thanks for the tip!
The little key slot is also (as I learned form experience) where you put the key to start the car when the key battery dies
Great review!
Thank you!
Hi. thank you for the clear illustration. I would like to ask if the hybrid system in the outlander comes with lithium battery.
That was very informative thank you
Would like to hear your review on a Ford Endura Titanium. Enjoying your comprehensive reviews. 👍
Thank you! I'm trying to get Ford on-side, hopefully soon 😉
Thinking on buying 2019-2020 now in 2024. Is it still worth it?
Nice review. Here in the UK, this model would be circa 82,000 Australian dollars.
Are you serious?! That's insane money!

Hello Matt, Information on Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV. I would love to get your opinion on the All New 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander SUV.
What is under the hood is more important than the hood itself.
Battery size and degradation thats what matters.
What is the point of having in Australia heated seats and not cooled ones?
I ask myself that question a lot! But here in Vic on a 5 degree morning it comes in handy 😉

Why shout
It's a family car. Not a fashion accessory. Who cares about chrome
You won't like to know then that the number 2 reason people buy cars is "exterior styling" then!
So that's why car prices are so stupidly high in this country. Too many self indulgent twats willing to waste money on utter crap they don't need
