  • Learn how to use the Map Series function in ArcGIS Pro. Map Series allows you to create map books and atlases using ArcGIS Pro. This is very similar to the Data Driven Pages functionality found in ArcMap.

    Great info here. I've been using ArcMap for a long time and I'm finally making the transition to ArcPro. The biggest headache I'm having is trying to find what features are now called and where things are hidden. Watching this saved me a lot of time. Thanks so much!

      is there a video that shows how to make a "locator map" for the individual sheets of an Atlas?

    This is great. Would you please make one that shows how to create an irregular index?

      Are you find how to create irregular index?

    • @eGISAssociates
      @eGISAssociates  5 років тому +1

      Irregular indexes are just existing layers you use so that each feature in that layer is its own page in the map book or atlas. So you would create it just like any other new feature class and layer.

    Thanks for the useful video. I'm wondering, is there a way to create a map series of several pages of the same spatial extent, each showing different field values of a given layer? For example I am creating bird distribution maps for over a hundred species over the same area. Is there a way to use one layout template, and iterate that with the same extent and symbology for each unique value in the 'species' field, rather than manually creating a map for each separate species?

    • @eGISAssociates

      That is a great question. I am not aware of a way to do that without creating multiple maps and layouts with just the basic functionality. However you could create a python script that would accomplish that.

    I just created a map series using the techniques described in this video. It was invaluable! I noticed that in the individual map ROWS, there is overlap with the next map to the west and east. For instance in the individual map cell A2 there is some overlap with cells A1 and A3, however with the map COLUMNS there is no such corresponding overlap. For instance there is no visible overlap between cell B2 and the cells north and south of it, A2 and C2 respectively. Is there a way to achieve a corresponding overlap in the North/South Columns as there is in the East/West rows?

    • @eGISAssociates
      @eGISAssociates  3 роки тому

      Glad to hear the video was helpful. As to your question about overlap, I assume you are talking about the Create Strip Map Index tool. As far as I know, it will only overlap in a single orientation as you have seen demonstrated. That is because it is expected that you are following a linear feature and will need to show a match line or area between one map or the other. What you could possibly do if you want overlap between grids on all sides is create a Model in ModelBuilder or a python script that would generate the grid with no overlap. Then scale each grid around the centroid to achieve the desired overlap.

    These are some great tutorials you have on arcgis pro. I have arcgis pro tutorials on my channel as well but i didn't plan on covering this topic, could i mention this video and channel in an upcoming tutorial? this is really great content, i have to spread the word, if you will allow.

    Question. I have noticed that when I add Dynamic text to the Map Series the dynamic text is also included in the original Map Frame page which also includes the grid layer. Is there a way to TURN Off the dynamic text for the "master" map and start the dynamic text at the first sub-map of the series, ie, start dynamic text on map A1? Thanks in advance.

      Honestly, I am not sure if this is possible in the current versions of ArcGIS Pro.

    This is a great tutorial, thanks for sharing! I migrated some MXDs with data driven pages setup within to ArcGIS Pro and found some of the dynamic legends are no longer working ... I thought maybe it was a disconnect between the legend elements and the index grid for the map series, but when I pan through the various pages the correct extents of the data frame update within the layout. Have you ever come across this issue?

    • @eGISAssociates
      @eGISAssociates  5 років тому

      Not really, I am not sure if they have enabled the dynamic legends in ArcGIS Pro yet.

    • @eGISAssociates

      Here is an update to our original reply. When importing an MXD with Data Driven Pages not all the settings seem to come into ArcGIS Pro and must be reset manually. This includes the dynamic Legend.

    I've got a question that I"m hoping someone can answer. I created a grid index along an AOI but I individually rotated some of those grid tiles to better match the extent. I created a map series and under the 'Optional' subheading, checked that the rotation should match the grid index features. Unfortunately, the maps with the rotated index tiles are not rotating the data frame when I review the map series in the layout. I want to know if there is any way to match the dataframe rotation based on those rotated index tiles. Has anyone run across this issue before?

    • @eGISAssociates
      @eGISAssociates  4 роки тому

      Hello Nate - Thanks for watching the video. To have the rotation work, there are at least two things you need to have. First is an attribute field in the table for the index grid which contains the rotation value. Then you need to point the map series setup to that field. You will find this under the optional fields.

    How to create irregular index map?

    • @eGISAssociates
      @eGISAssociates  5 років тому +1

      There is no singular way to create an irregular index because they are just any existing layer you want to use to determine the location and number of each page that will be in your map book or atlas.

      If you are referring to the source text from the Esri basemaps, I am not sure you can.
