That's so disappointing about the overheating. This was one of the main things (overheating and freezing up) why I chose the OA3 over the GoPro. That's a deal breaker on the OA4 if it routinely overheats. 🙁
Nice having the camera's mounted so close together that you could compare the images better.

Thank you for this. I film outside. I can't have one that overheats. So I'm gonna order the Action 3. It's too bad just like GoPro they seem to be going down the road of higher quality at the cost of overheating. Sure it looks good on your specs but we need an action camera that can work during spring & summer too.
The action 4 looks sharper. Probably because of the focus issue. Some of the scenes look different, but it's hard to say if you're just using the standard settings. The OA4 permanently has HDR on, so you have to turn that on as well on the Action 3 to compare the 2 cameras.

this is EXACTLY why I NEVER watch sponsored DJI product videos.
It's more than obvious now that DJI will NEVER let any reviewer even mention any flaws on their products no matter how obvious it is.
I've made the sour experience with issues with the DJI FPV, and others have been and are STILL struggling with the Ronin 4D game breaker issues that are NEVER addressed in ANY official sponsored reviews.. F that really
I was almost gonna buy the action 4 because honestly in low light it blows the action 3 and also overall the dynamic range look better on the 4, even with the 3 being in HDR mode (the HDR mode looks sketchy like most HDR mode in any camera/phone anyway)
But overheating? nuh uh, noway, no!
I work with my gear for clients, they'll take me for an amateur if I show up at a job and few mins in ask for a break so that my camera can freaking cool down
Such a deal breaker for me, I guess I'll spend a bit less money and get the 3, thanks for the honest review
New firmware helps but still will overheat way faster than Action 3 though
The amount of people talking about overheating is funny. Yes it overheats but 4K 60fos isn’t a “long use” mode. It never has been, nor is it marketed as such. In videography 4K 60fps or higher is used when you’re going to slow-mo the clip in post production. Normally 4K 30fps is used or 24/25fps. Do a comparison at normal frame rates and it may actually be a fair comparison. Any camera will overheat at 4K 60fps for long periods.
60 fps is normal mode - sports channels are broadcasting in 60 fps.
@@firstlast-pt5pp You really compare sports channel with fast action to walking around in a park. Yes there are some situations such as filming animals that make good use of it but typically you use it during sports or rides where you dont have to worry about it overheating.
At around 5 minutes when you were talking about the focus issues, I switched to the highest resolution on UA-cam and zoomed in. With the Action 4 you can see that the details are crisp on the texture and letters of your shirt and facial features, but with the Action 3 everything becomes smushed together. Even the cap mount is slightly out of focus on the Action 3. Such a big difference!
Not sure if it was intentional, but the texture and sharp letters on your shirt really accentuate the focus issues on the Action 3. For most casual users I don't think they would have noticed, but if I'm shelling out hundreds of dollars, bad shots should be on me, not the camera!
Yes sadly my OA3 is 1st batch with crappy close focus issue thankfully OA4 is sharp as hell
People saying that the focus issue on 3 is because the lens cover needs to be screwed in more or something like that
I can confirm that the latest batch of action 3 has the same focus as the 4, 30cm.
so much better dynamic range on the 4 you can see how the 3 under exposes or overexposed parts that look perfect on the 4, very helpful review
great to see a comparison between the OA3 & OA4 . I DONT GET why every one is comparing it to the GP11 , when in my opinion the OA3 was already better than the GP11 in every aspect bar image perfection . ill say it though there is not much difference between these two ! i think at times the AO3 looked better . both have great colour .

"I DONT GET why every one is comparing it to the GP11" EXACTLY!!! I keep saying the same thing, this is a much more sensible comparison, not saying that the action 4 can't be compared to the hero 11, but this should be the first comparison.
Its because all reviews of OA4 are sponsored.
Sincerely, I have seen plenty of comparisons between the three... And Go Pro 11 looks better. You can argue on another aspects... But not on image quality.

@@m7rayven195 I agree. I some aspects OA4 looks like an budget camera and a special on low light stabilization. Lost of ghosting and jiggle image.
Thanks heaps for this unbiased review of the OA3 & 4, both on auto, “straight out of the box”. This is the best way to appreciate the difference between the two. I was going to buy the OA3, but decided to wait for the OA4, hoping it would be released this year, even though predictions were for April 2024! The lowlight in the OA4 is way better now, but I’m definitely concerned about the overheating of the 4 now!?
If you keep recording in 4k of course it’s going to heat up

Yep, I've noticed in multiple videos that the action 4 is overheating in scenarios where the action 3 just keeps going. In one video, it overheated at 25 minutes recording in 4k60, the action 3 would record until the battery dies in that same scenario. I've also filmed for extended periods in warm weather and never had my action 3 overheat.
@8:30 - nd4 or nd 8 will help out the action 3 in daylight. I use nd filters as dynamic range reducer.
Great video, i have been going back and forth for months on the gopros and dji cams for motorcycle vids. Ultimately ended up with the action 3 because the wider fov and colors looked better for me. Hopefully i chose right! Keep up the vids thank you!

I think that if you own the OA3 there's no reason to upgrade to the OA4.. IMO.
What are your thoughts if you own neither? Right now I can get a 3 for $280 Black Friday but the 4 is still $400

The 4 seems to have better dynamic range. You clearly see it in the sky on the 4 with the clouds being visible, and the 3 is a totally washed out shy. Colours look brighter and more vibrant, with a slightly wider field of view.
But I think the depth of field is slightly better on the 3. I see more of the contours of your face as the shadow hits.
Yup Dynamic range A4 is much better due to HDR also better in low lighting conditions
I was hoping the 4 only overheats when stationary 😕 if it still overheats quickly while already walking, then might be better to stick with the 3. the 4's DR is way better tho
sir i’m a little confused…if you check your video at 10:57 , when you changed the POV to selfie, it’s the action 3 that is actually overheating. it has the “ACTION 3” mark on the gadget itself. the ACTION 4 was still recording. i think the ACTION 3 is the one on the left (from the viewer’s POV) while the A4 is the one at the right. pls correct me if im wrong.

there's a huge "device overheated, recording stopped" text on the action 4, i don't know how you missed that. you're probably confused between red light (recording, on the action 3) vs the green light (device is on but not recording, on the action 4)
I just bought OA4 about 1 month ago. I using it for motovlog on hot day (temperature are 36 to 38 degrees celcius) around 17 minutes no overheat issue. Maybe it just a luck for me get a better batch lol

Oh got it online yah technically it's just a cap which they drilled a hole & screw on a mounting leg hahaha
Now everyone will panic... over heating!!! lol.... the cam is great upgrade for an "action" camera. Mine is coming Monday!. I returned my A3 - focus issue. No plan to do hours of shooting, just shorts. My friend has the A4 and have been shooting a lot with it outside on hot days and no overheating. So could be batch based on country. Who knows. It just came out so let's see the long term reviews and use base. Unfortunately though too many buy an action cam and expect it to do long hours of shooting - it's not a camcorder to shoot a wedding, it's for B rolls. lol
So you buy a camera to film only 3 Minutes a time? Sorry man but that´s BULLSHIT!
@@insighteins1317if you want to film for long periods buy a dedicated VIDEO CANERA like a mirrorless or DSLR. The clue is in the name: ACTION CAMERA EG: for bouts of action… which normally last a few minutes. It’s NOT a vlogging camera.

Just purchased A4 then saw your video! I visit Indonesia often and i tried to record 1080p,@30 which lasted 10 mins😢
My A3 like my A4 are sold in the UK but have the the Euro rules wrt max temp😮
The only way i found that works on A3 eas to download a crackconfig file onto sd card and so far i can record 4k@100 fps with ambient temperature of approx 27-30c
Hopefully A4 will accept the same file.

When it does get hot it gives a warning that screen will be disabled. But, it keeps on recording.

The OA4 is better in the HDR field.
Also, I see the skin tone
is more natural with the OA4,
as the OA3 is a bit saturated.

Perhaps shooting in 4K 60 had something to do with overheating. Try the same test in 4K 24
That's obviously the reason, but a lot of people shoot at 4k 60 and if it overheats after a few minutes, then it's no good for those use cases.

@@Tonellacam You want to always have the option to slow down the footage especially if it's action. I shoot 60fps full time especially when it's action. If all you're doing is vlogging, it doesn't matter. If you're filming skateboarding, it's kinda important.

casing, buttons, and mounts are all same with OA3 except the new larger lens on OA4

@7:05 - the Action 4 is activated at the time of recording ? if unactivated, it will stop rrecording at much lower temperature.
there is only a little upgrade in action 4. I will stick to my action 3 first and wait for action 5 😊
Yes, I suspect they will work hard on the overheating issues with the action 5 release, definitely worth waiting for.
Action 4 clarity is superior. Maybe try the GoPro Hero 12?

How long did you film for using the Action 3?
Any reason to are filming 60fps?
10mins - 5mins thereafter - I always shoot 60fps due to birds or wildlife shows up abruptly and fast hence need fast video to capture some scenes it's not within my control to que when the animals can pose for me hahaha

@@TheSunnySuttons - bigger sensor requires more processing therefore more heat too. Note the heatsinks are the same for the 3 and 4.

This new action 4 has lost to the action 3 in one key metric, overheating. I have seen in more than one video so far that the action 4 overheats in situations where the action 3 just powers through.
yup Action 3 been a stable performer no issues for long days outside 4k 60fps with HB
HI, thanks for the vdeo, i have a GoPro HERO 11 and it overheat in 16 min, set in 4k/60fps , maybe same.
Action 3 looks slightly out of focus. Especially noticeable on the texture of your shirt. The quality is what I was expecting with the 3. I sent mine back after DJI refused to admit to focusing issues. If the over heating issues get fixed, I'm in. Image is far better.
Yes as always mine are 1st batch so chances of issues are higher hopefully new firmware can resolve this action 4 overheating I faced

Yep, the action 4 was much much better in low light but yes the overheating is an issue. Hope they can fix that.

How about the wind noise in OA3?
Technically similar not much changed on audio I actually feel OA3 is louder when editing OA4 need to increase vol a bit

@@banayadlifestyle oh put a foam/deadcat over the front mics but don't cover the WB sensor at the O. you can buy those for compact camera like RX100 they sell tiny deadcats stick on

I just bought OA4 after i crashed my OA3. Pls dont buy OA4. Get OA3!!! I totally regret getting OA4. I promise, within 2 mins of opening the cam, you will feel the heat.

@@RichartAsiayou don’t need fast video unless you are slow mo’ing the video in post. The higher frame rate will also darken the video as faster frame rates require more light to function properly.
@@ThatVideographerNick Not true. I can see obvious differences when panning. 30FPS is not as smooth, not at all. I'm working on a video now where I told the user to use 60 fps. He didn't and I can tell, easily.

well if they launch new pocket with this sensor it'll be the best of both worlds though
