This was very helpful. I broke my Vitamix yesterday and thought I’d have to shell out $500 to buy another refurbished 7500. I’m so glad I found this video and can fix it myself. Thank you 🙏

Excellent video. It turned out that my drive socket set screw was loose and that play was making the blender make a grinding noise while blending a thick sauce. Now I know that Tundra has the parts I need going forward. Thanks!!!

I had no idea that pad came off. I also was going to order a new drive socket from vitamix, but now I see they're cheaper elsewhere. Vitamix told me I should send the motor base in for repair because "people have a hard time replacing the drive socket" That looks way too easy. Thanks so much for this video.

Thank you so much! This video saved me from buying another model! I replaced the drive socket with the help of my husband and I've got a clean, quieter running Vitamix CIA! You are a great presenter and the video was done very professionally. Again thank you for saving me time and $$. Chez Bettay, the Vegan Gourmet

Hi Chris, thank you for posting the explanation. I received a replacement gear and the instructions state that when turning the hex key to snug it up, and then back it off 1/4 turn. The socket should pull up and down slightly and not be fixed. They also mention that it should make a "popping" sound when checking the upward/downward movement. There are inconsistencies on this with various UA-cam instructionals, but apparently if that little bit of play isn't there, it can damage the drive. I hope this helps y'all out there.

What about side to side movement? Should there be any? My new vitamix has movement side to side.

Paul Smith Vitamix has a UA-cam channel and their video of how to replace the drive socket said the exact same thing as you in your comment. I'll take their instructions over any other YT demo. :)

Thank you kindly for the speedy reply. To add to my previous questions, the bolt/socket still spins without the container but with container the blades fail to spin . I appreciate that without seeing the item it is tough to provide a thorough diagnosis, and will try other hex sizes... if you have any additional suggestions it is always greatly appreciated. Thank you again for advice thus far.

With the replacement drive socket, there was a small rubber grummet which called with silicon to be used to create water seal?? Is that crucial as it did not come with silicon and will not stay inserted. Any advice would be welcome. Thank you in advance.

Love the jumpcut.. I'm assuming popping that out isn't as easy as it looks.. also mine has a white plastic oozing through the hole so I can't get the wrench in there

    • @BrianMiller1973

MindChamber The white stuff is silicone, to prevent liquids from entering the motor and shorting it out. Just pop it out and replace.

I have a pro 750... removed tiny screw... no movement on the spindle, have pried and even bent a metal tool trying to get it to budge.... any ideas?... there is a plastic shroud around it that can't be taken out beforehand that is now cracked from prying against it... help

How do I now if it is the drive socket in this video that needs replacing or the blender jug gear that goes on this drive socket is worn down? Any testing ideas? Thank you.

Very helpful! Our allen head screw kept spinning because it was cracked in-line but my husband drilled out the entire unit from the top and we were successful! The new one seems better quality than the original.

Hi could you PL tell me why the retainer nut on my Vitamix comes off while blending? Which part needs to be replaced?

  • @AB-80X
    @AB-80X 7 років тому +2

You should mention that one should not tighten the screw completely. It has to be slightly loose, so that the container can "center" itself on the blender. Otherwise it will vibrate like mad and wear out the socket.

I watched this and another demo video for changing the drive socket. I received instructions with the part that differ with the videos. The videos show tightening the hex screw as the last step before replacing the centering pad. However, the instructions say to back off 1/4 turn after tightening and then lifting the drive socket until it clicks and it should allow about 1/4 inch up and down play in the socket. I finally noticed there is a very small lip at the top of the square nut, which the hex screw catches on. It is much easier to skip this step, but I assume there is a good reason why Vitamix includes this this step in the procedure.

I called vitamix about a replacement part on my lifetime warrantied blender, to find out there is NO lifetime warranty. Guess its just false adverising from the reps at costco!

When I use the allen wrench, it turns but nothing loosens or tightens (I am using the proper size). I'm not sure what to do!

Any recommendations - I can't seem to get the drive socket off. I used the 5/64 wrench, was able to feel it get loose, or tighten, but doesn't seem to matter how much I turn to loosen it, the socket won't pop out. I've tried also with the screwdrivers to get leverage (as recommended in the video) but don't want to put too much force. Any recommendations?

are there different sizes of drive sockets-socket? The new one i have has a square hole that looks much bigger than the motor shaft. when i place it on the motor shaft, it does not turn the motor without tightening the set screw. The set screw does not tighten enough to keep the motor turning the blender blades.

+Matthew Hock There are, but most units use this one:

The VitaMix XL unit has a larger motor shaft.

Hello, could you assist me as my drive socket is very wobbly and have tried the 5/64 hex to remove it but does not appear to loosen or tighten??? Also, the drive socket appears to still be attached to the center bolt(although very wobbly)? Is there more here I should be concerned about? My last thought is, that because it is so "wobbly" maybe it no longer needs the use of a hex, and just try to pop it of as suggested in video, using two flathead screwdrivers? I do not want damage it further so again, I wonder if you might be able to steer me in the right direction, I would sincerely appreciate any assistance with this.

Without seeing or touching the actual unit, it's tough to diagnose. Here are some tips:
      1. Having a ‘wobbly’ socket could mean it possibly broke internally; see #3
      2. The hex screw head could be stripped to the point where the 5/64 will not fit; try a couple sizes around that to see if it grabs
      3. The drive socket itself could be stripped, and not even spin from the motor. If this is the case, contact Vitamix for more help: www.vitamix.com/Commercial/Resources/Frequently-Asked-Questions

I was having massive vibration because my drive socket became wobbly. Once I found the right hex, I was able to tighten it back up. Take a look in that hole. You should be able to clearly see a little hex socket down there when you line up the little arrow on the drive socket with the hole, and your drive gear is seated all the way down. I thought mine was stripped when I started, but then when I took a look with a light and realized that I was just flopping around on top of the socket with a too-large size. I don't have the exact size. My wrenches aren't labelled. Be careful not to strip it using a slightly smaller hex wrench.

No discussion on leaving the socket with 1/16" of play. Is this important?

My drive socket on my 750 pro came off when I turned it to check its condition. The blades wouldn't spin, that why I checked the drive socket.

Problem > I was making icecream with frozen strawberries and bananas and when switching the blender off / on quickly to jog the chunks around; so as not to place undue stress on the motor the motor blade or motor gear started skipping. I'm working on finding a 5/64 inch hex key to look more closely at it.
Any comments? As to what the problem can be?
*Note: When pulling upwards on the drive socket there is a small amount of play of about 1/8 inch or a slight bit more. So problem = while trying to spin it using frozen bananas and the plunger it tends to wind at a higher speed and not turn the food.
