As a child living in Burgess Hill I could see Jack & Jill in a dip of the South Downs about seven miles away. In those days Jack had no sweeps or, indeed, any machinery but Jill had skeletal sweeps and was maintained as a static landmark. In the 1950s there was no money and not much interest in restoring windmills, and I never expected to see Jill working. Wonderful.
