  • Federal opposition leader Peter Dutton drew widespread criticism, including from one of his own MPs, for comparing the 1996 mass murder of 35 people at Port Arthur to a pro-Palestine protest at the Sydney Opera House. Dutton later defended his comments on national television, saying he was pointing to the 'absolute absence of leadership' from prime Anthony Albanese, accusing him of failing to act to reduce antisemitism in the wake of the Gaza conflict
