If we take the premise that we are spirit having a physical experience, it follows that spirit and matter aren't separate,
Consciousness is spirit and matter combined...not separate....we are all one organism on the quantum electrical vibrational
plain. Then where are we located, at what position? We aren’t located anywhere we are everything…..just waking up at this
point and position within our own mind dream, we are in total everything. All energy at the quantum electrical vibration
level is alive…..and everything is energy. All things we think are solid, table, steel, tree, roadway etc, at the quantum level is
nothing more than energy that being quarks, neutrons, electrons etc all spinning, all alive…if everything in matter is doing
that all the time, “it means at that level everything is unified…one entity” Then it stands to reason we also are immersed
within that entity. Inside ourselves we stand consciously at the crossroad of the vertical and horizontal plains, located within
the all…waking up to the fact that we individually and collectively are a reflection and projection of the universal mind. It is
what it is coz we is “is

I tripped on 200 mics of lsd a couple weeks ago, I remember watching the moon, it looked like an eye (exactly like the all seeing eye on the dollar bill). As i sit there the eye is watching me and everything and i watching it, suddenly I realise that eye in the sky is infact me looking back at myself as i watch it. I was one with everything after that.
I woke up the next day to find I had wrote something on the side of my bed.
If your having a bad (day/trip), you need not worry!
As this is only your "self" swimming through the "madness"
    that is the "mind"
    I lost everything that night.

One of the valuable things Alan Watts brings to all this is a sense of humour; not irrelevant jokes to spice it up or help the message go down, but a real sense of how funny and paradoxical his subject matter is. And it IS! Here we are, going around pretending to be these characters that don't exist, making out that my nobody is better than your nobody! Or getting into a pissing contest about who is the nobodiest! NOBODY isn't!

Now I never worry and every day is full of love and bliss and I can feel (physically) the connection to the universe through my chakras.
Sure I still fail in some situations or people are cruel to me, but it dosn't affect me mentally or emotionally.
You can do it too! I believe in you! : )

+simich In theory you can not since you are the mind, rather than you have a mind, therefore, you are unable to leave the mind since you can not leave yourself, you are your brain, mind and body, you are the mind, brain and body rather than having such things; they are in fact - in Wattsian way - three differences of the same sameness, or suchness.

This video has allowed me to be alone with nobody for the past 3 years. As much as Alan states in this video, I wanna run away from myself, to entertainment, to girls, to anything that allows my brain to be busy processing thoughts as this allows me to avoid boredom and will entertain me and almost give me a purpose of waking up. Alan has taught me otherwise, I can make my mind shut up and relax and have the purpose of being alive. No matter how lonely you get as I have done, don't worry, you've always got yourself, your life which is something you will always have until having thoughts is no longer required, but resting is required, this stage of your little journey is death, don't be afraid of death but only embrace it, it is one of many gifts that life offers, a time to rest, a phenomenon that will completely rid of emotions such as worry.

As someone dealing with add and constantly thinking every 5 seconds of a different idea or topic. I truly felt my brain go quiet, and just as the video came to an end I was able to tell myself to relax and only do that. I felt pure equilibrium with myself and earth

I practiced a form of Korean Zen for about three years in the later half of the 90's, and I was so excited, I wanted others I knew to do it too. So I got several friends to accompany me one weekend, and after about 4 or 5 hours of the most silent time I had ever known before (it was also a bitter cold winter, with deep snow on the ground, and clear, vivid dark blue sky above), the wife of this friend suddenly broke down into quiet sobbing. She and her husband eventually left and drove back home, and I didn't understand what had happened for a while. Then I found out that this long silence, with nothing but one's mind for company, had been something this woman couldn't stand; and she had to leave. Meditation can (sometimes) be almost too much for some people. Now with the prevalence of I-phones and the like, I see this constant distraction everywhere, all the time. These things are not, in of themselves, the problem, but they do provide a way of escaping one's inner life.
This 'compulsive thinking' syndrome is such part of our daily lives, and meditation is an excellent way of finally seeing this inherent jitteriness! Perhaps plunging in isn't the correct way of going about this, but taking small steps further and further into the silence that meditation works best in is. Haven't we all, at some point in our lives, suddenly stopped in the midst of some mental vicious circle, and said (or thought): "STOP IT!" That's a good glimpse into this whole topic that Watts is talking about.

Tell yourself It is OK to be addicted to thoughts. It is natural to be addicted to thoughts. Don't put that burden on yourself wishing you need to be someone you aren't yet. By noticing this and with the intent of taking little steps towards being less addicted to thoughts is the direction to freedom. Mt Everest is conquered by little steps not a giant leap.

Wth are you talking about? This is about overthinking and becoming obsessed with it rather than just thinking in itself. He doesn't refer to thinking as a bad thing, he refers to overthinking - worrying too much as a "vicious cycle" because overthinking in it's nature is obsessive causing you to cycle between thinking and thinking about not thinking about bad things. Hence the "cycle".

THE KEY TO FIND YOUR REAL SELF IS TO KEEP IN MIND THAT THE ONLY WAY TO BE PERFECT AT SOMETHING IS TO HAVE THE SOURCE OF YOUR MOTIVATION AND YOUR THOUGHTS *ONLY* (IN THE FASCINATION) IN THE THING YOU WANT TO BE GOOD AT. IF YOUR MOTIVATION LIES IN THE WISH TO JUST BE BETTER, TO IMPRESS OTHERS OR TO DO IT SO YOU FEEL BETTER IN TERMS OF SELF EXPECTATION WHILE YOU DO IT, THEN YOU WILL FAIL AT IT. THAT ALSO MEANS THAT THERE IS NO REASON TO BE SCARED IN FAILING, SINCE THE ONLY THING THAT MATTERS IS WHAT HAPPENS. NOT WHAT MIGHT HAPPEN, WHAT YOU WISH TO BE HAPPENING OR WHAT DOESNT HAPPEN. SO CUT OUT DESIRES AND START ENJOYING.
edit: i myself have, for a very long time, a belief that i have to grow and fulfill my self expectations, which led me to the constant habit, constantly watching myself not to fail in something, mostly thinking and that opened up a world full of illusions which nearly made me vanish in my own self, but i did never loose hope.

I don't know all of the religions but I assume the most known of them are punitive and heal people at the cost of deluding them from reality while what Alan Watts appears to say is a pure human philosophy supported by objective experiences, he starts from common ones and brings you to higher and more complicated ones instead of asserting beliefs with parachutes.

Be it a concert of my favorite band, a time spent in pure love, or doing something full of action and excitement, there was only the experience and feelings of it. To truly understand ourselves we need to transcend the most basic ways we think of reality. We need to see reality as it is and not how we think about it BUT that is only paradoxical because our experience of reality IS determined by how we think about it.
What we experience, the ONE experience creates our thoughts, but to experience we need to think about it. they are the same thing yet we split them up, jumble the experience into numbers and measurements with thinking and get a false created view of our reality, that one beam of light then gets fragmented by the prism of the mind.

Surprisingly I want to do the same thing, please please please promise me you will travel the world, technically you answered this yourself , you said 'I want' and at the end of the day it's your life so always follow what you want to do and don't let others interrupt, life has a plan for you, please don't live a life you'll regret.

I just wanted to put my 2 cents (or pence as I'm from the UK) towards this. I was what was known as quite an introverted person, I had my moments of confidence don't get me wrong, but like yourself I was worried (and still am in certain regards) as to what other people would say about my decisions. It sounds cliche to say that the best time is now, but it truly is, otherwise your mind will make room for "there'll be other days" or "maybe tomorrow"'s. Travelling is one of the most accomplishing things you can do, from personal experience I bought a ticket to New Zealand with the intention of staying there for 2 months, I in fact stayed there for 3 years in the end. I made friends (many of which I am still in contact with today) with whom I shared amazing experiences and don't regret one minute of it. The thing that held me back from doing things was my own mind and doubts, it was masquerading as a safety net for rejection or for failure, but in the end failing to act on what you want to do can be one of the biggest regrets. I'd be more than happy to give you any more information on travelling in general or just the basics :)

I want to stop, to be in control of my thinking and not the other way around..

Meditation is the answer to that. Easy as simple sitting down in a good position and trying to keep your mind either focused on something like your breathing, or nothing at all if you can manage that.
Give it a try if you are interested. If you do it daily for 5-10 min, you WILL notice a difference in a couple months.

Ive found on my journey that the best way for me to meditate is not to try and quite the mind, not to try and think of nothing, but instead simply let my thoughts happen. If I am trying to meditate and an off topic thought comes into my mind, I dont try to force it out. Trying to force it out takes thinking. So in other words, you are just creating more thoughts about how you dont want to be thinking. I have found that the thing to do is completely accept whatever the unwanted thought may be. Have the thought, recognize it as what it is, but dont associate with it or try and force it out. Dont let it trick you into thinking about it more heavily. That just creates another cycle of new thoughts. Simply observe the thought, as you would observe the branches on a tree blowing or the sound of the birds outside your window. Recognize it as something separate from yourself and let it fade into the background noise of your environment. Then do the same with whatever thought comes up next about how the first one left. And again, and again, and then suddenly, as you become the observer and not the thinker, there is nothing left to do the thinking, and you've made it.

I agree with TheDrunkenMantis Meditation works WONDERS my friend. There are a ton of books and even audio CD's on how to do it but this is a very good book I have seen on Meditation. TheDrunkenMantis is right. Learn to meditate and you'll start to find about 95.9% or more of what you worry about isn't even anything worth worrying about at all. :) www.amazon.com/gp/product/1492855235/ref=as_li_qf_sp_asin_il_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=1492855235&linkCode=as2&tag=philofdrea-20&linkId=AQNCSRVF5SFPDR7K

Ivan Božić To make meditation easier, have fun with it. Your mind will not want to be in the present if it's bored so take an interest in your breathing and smile ~ the more fun you have the more you will commit :)
