Excuse the watermark only the last time I posted a Who clip some dickhead stole it and put it on his channel as his own work
My Mom and my older sister went to this show. For decades they talked about how loud it was. My sister still talks about it.
Were they at the early or late show?
@@VX_XI I'm not sure. I think it was the late show. They came home late that night.
I was there! And was stone deaf when I walked out...and beyond blissed out.
David, I spent an afternoon with you at Paul's house working on There's Johnny! I was looking at this footage, came across your comment (which I love) and had to say hello. :) Eric
I was 15 years old and mailed for tickets with no luck. I do remember Jackie Onassis and Nelson Rockefeller requesting tickets and Townsend refused saying that the concert was for their fans. That made me feel a bit better.
I was at the Saturday afternoon show. To this day, the best of 20 times I saw the Who between '67 and '72.....and the best of any show I have ever seen period.
Wow! Do you have any memorabilia of either time you saw them?
I was at the afternoon show as well. Totally agree with you. Saw The Who numerous times and this was by far their greatest concert. My favorite concert of all time . Was informed that the afternoon show even had more encores than the one in the evening. Felt lucky.
The concert was one month after Kent State, and over 500 colleges in the US, including NYU, where I was a student, had been shut down on strike. My dorm-mate's younger brother stood on line for several hours to get us tickets, which if I recall, cost only $6 or so!
From 1968-1976 live. The who were unstopable. Just pure power from start to finish.
hell...from 64 to 76 I'd say
That lighting is f*cking awesome on film!
If only all independent films were like this...
Whoa where has this been hiding out???
Thanks!
Check out the Tanglewood show for a whole show with great sound..but this has The Who on it, so it's history, and glad you posted it..
Hidden gem. Thanks for posting.
Fantastic footage!
Awesome! I have this bootleg but haven't seen this video before. Thanks for posting!
Great, some member of the band called their concerts at the Met in 1970 the best of their career.
This concert was one of the most important for The Who.
Yeah my bad. Just found out it was stock footage from a local CBS news show so obviously it was 16mm. Still good stuff and great job!
I was at this concert! Unfortunately, having foolishly had some wine with pot, I passed out after the opening number, only to awaken during the finale
that is awful
Outstanding!
Good stuff
Brilliant! !!
Ausgezeichnet, what more can I say. Danke!
Damn I’ve never seen this❤️
I was there, both shows, a matinee and an evening show like a real opera. At one of the shows, I don’t remember which one now, Townshend somehow broke the head off his guitar, NOT on My Generation. He threw it into the crowd.
Great document of a very famous show. I assume the original format used was super 8 mm. Just curious why the specific clips are running backwards from the order they were filmed?
Almost looks like a pro shot...makes you wonder if the whole thing exists..
+rhd123 It was probably shot by one of the networks for their news broadcast. I remember seeing a report on CBS Evening News about the Who's performance at the Met, (and the black and white segment here after the performance segment was part of that news broadcast...I remember clearly the shot of the poster for "TOMMY" in the Met's external display case as seen here). The CBS segment also included brief shots of the Who in performance, so it's a good guess this is drawn from the footage shot for that broadcast. The show was not recorded for later audio release due to union problems, or so I read at the time.
thank you for that valuable info...
Good vid - shame bout thes sound - still v rare great posting
Who at there best-69-74
stephen mcgurk 69-76!!- some of the most dodgy gigs were in 73/74 imo
stephen mcgurk Where are you from? my mums side of the family are all McGurks from Ireland- Co.Derry
1976 The Who played some of their best live shows ever. The only problem is that there are hardly any footage available of the band. Obviously Squeezebox, Dreaming from the Waist and sometimes Imagine A Man were included in their live act.
F***ing ace! Thanks alot! :D
Jesus the bloke must be seriously sad to keep nicking my uploads!
My dad went. I have the program
Is there more footage?
The concert was filmed????
Nah it would have been 16mm.
