I still play the OG on PS3 all the time. Its such a shame they cut server support a few months ago. I've heard 360 servers were pretty dead but you could almost always find PVP & do invasions on ps3; especially iron keep and the DLCs.
3:08 this area is objectively gankier in Vanilla. In Scholar the ranged enemies have lower range and there is less chain aggro. Like starting from the bonfire you immedeatly get attacked by all four hollows once you aggro one in Vanilla, but in Scholar you will fight them one vs one. Same after you climb up the ladder, where Vanilla again throws a group of hollows at you, but Scholar let's you fight them one vs one. 3:38 Vanilla also has statues, but no early branches. If you want to access Straid or Shaded Woods it takes a lot longer in Vanilla. Vanilla has fewer statues, but blocks your freedom of progression more. Similarly you also get access to McDuff much earlier in Scholar, so Scholar just let's you get stronger much earlier than Vanilla. 4:22 you are comparing it to vague memories of Scholar. This trap has the same amount of enemies, but Pate's trap has twice as many enemies in Vanilla. 4:30 this is the same in both versions. You also did not get harassed for going in here in Scholar. 4:48 you didn't get hit, but if you did you would have noticed that the Last Giant - like several other bosses - deals more damage in Vanilla. It's like you can usually survive 2 hits in Scholar, but die on the second hit in Vanilla. 8:26 "still sucks" - no it sucks more in Vanilla as these enemies aggro by default and gank up on you, while they stand around passively in Scholar until you pull the lever, which makes it easy to just deal with them one vs one before pulling it. 9:05 did you notice the 4 Bonewheel Skeletons? Scholar reduced them to just 2, and added an NPC summon - like it did for so many areas and bosses. 10:15 no fighting two of those big guys at the same time is much harder than dealing with the sorceresses one on one 11:24 this also shows a general design difference between Vanilla and Scholar. In Scholar this enemy gets introduced in a one vs one fight and you can fight them all one vs one until much later. Vanilla on the other hand introduces this new enemy type as a 1 vs 2 fight, followed by another 1 vs 2, followed by yet another 1 vs 3. Scholar generally has fewer group encounters than Vanilla. In general this is a pretty poor comparison. You also left out so many parts that are just worse in Vanilla, like in the Forest you did not show Pate's Trap, the tunnel to the Soldier's Rest bonfire and the area around it, the interior of Earthen Peak, or any other early game areas like No Man's Wharf and how much gankier and worse it is without the shortcut, Lost Bastille - especially the additional dogs on the Ruin Sentinels runback, the enemies around Straid or the enemies that shoot you before you even stand up from the Sinner's Rise bonfire, etc And you did not even play more than a couple of handful of areas. Vanilla becomes so much worse once you reach Tseldora as you can't chase away spiders, Shaded woods as you can't distract the invisible enemies, Drangleic Castle as it once again has a lot more ganks, Shrine of Amana as the Priestesses have more range and there's more of them shooting at you at the same time, Undead Crypt and especially the Velstadt runback, and most importantly Dragon Shrine which is the most frustrating area in Vanilla but fun in Scholar.
I respect the care for ds2...but brother this video wasn't some critique or anything, nor was it a comparison video. This simply is me trying out the OG version, it ain't that serious lol
@@GameitMicah he is lying, I’ve been playing og ds2 for months now on MY xbox360 the pursuer will always give you the ring of blades even if you defeat him in that little space where that bomb throwing hollow is however when you challenge him in iron keep, in the smelter demon room he’ll give you the RoB+1, and then in ng+ the RoB+2 will be in the drangleic castle throne room (the pursuer on the left will drop the ring and the one on the right will drop a twinkling titanite).
From my experience, it seems like a lot of the aspects of scholar that are frowned upon by the fan base were patched into the game over time. I still play the version 0.0 of scholar on my 360 and it’s basically vanilla ds2 with the dlcs included.
The version of Scholar that was released on PS3/360 literally was just OG with included DLCs. When people refer to Scholar, they're usually talking about the actual remix that originally released on PS4/Xbone.
In reality over 90% of people that played both versions prefer the improved Scholar version. It's only a tiny minority of players that prefer the inferior Vanilla version. Vanilla has more ganks, worse runbacks, more frustrating moments, more unfair moments and a lack of several fun mechanics. Like you can't even use the torch to chase away spiders in Vanilla.
Hi domo, thanks for your videos, before i had the same thought that vanilla was better but after seeing your videos it changed my perspective on scholar and, indeed, scholar is better
I completed DS2 vanilla on my ps3 2 times, and now im playing scholar and when I find an area it used to have a gank on there I'm like "dude what happened to everyone?"

Steam still has OG ds2 with a dedicated player base. Still slaps like it always has.

Hated this game at first, but it grows on you and now I find it very charming.
Facts
Did you know acid surge actually works in pve of course some things are immune and it's only a debuff but that's more than ds1 and 3 ever did with it.
Tbh I didn't know that, interesting
Coincidently, I almost beat ds1 and I'm gonna beat ds2 after this
Hell yeah
scholar is probably my favorite game of all time
Massive respect
You missed the dull ember in iron keep's "shortcut" broken stairs.
Scholar feels like that hero mode in the Ocarina of Time remake. The OG is so much more playable
Im platinuming ds2 on ps5 right now and wow the enemy placement is soooooo much better in the og version 😭
different enemy and item placements, its way better. But scholar has alot more neat details that are cool.
