I love Steve Howe. This wasn't even a year ago and he's still playing his heart out. I wish I was there to have seen that show. Yes was a huge part of my tweens and teens. So blessed to have been born in that time frame and experience the music.
Yes. I tell my young grandsons to learn at least one musical instrument instead of focusing so much on sports. Sports are great, but at some point your age will limit what you can do. Look at what Howe can still do at age 75.
As an avid fingerpicker myself, I've been in awe of this tune since I first heard The Yes Album in 1971. Even though we now have dozens of UA-cam videos of Steve playing it live (not to mention dozens of lessons by well-meaning folk who have dissected it and tried to teach it), The Clap remains one piece that baffles and intimidates me to this day. How on earth he managed to stitch together all of those knuckle busting fingerings (I mean, that final walkdown is still terrifying) into one dazzling tune is just miraculous. And he composed it at, what, 25 years old? Still stunning, all these years later!
I completely agree with you. I also started hearing this piece when I was 18 years old (made to hear it by a friend of mine), and I was blown away by it. Since then I realised for myself that he was using a strange technique and I learnt this new technique. I have been maniacal in perfecting the piece (Yes Album version) and by now I can say that I can do the piece very precisely. It's really difficult to play it well if you're not a professional guitarist, it requires a lot of training and there are details that you have to have studied carefully if you want to reproduce the piece as perfectly as Steve Howe does. He was truly a genius (at that age) and it is a masterpiece that will remain in the history of music. You have to thank God for giving birth to Steve Howe😄😄 (obviously in addition to everything else in creation). Conall Gallagher did a tremendous job on the Clap (but by then I already knew how to do the piece, albeit with a few minor inaccuracies) and you have to thank him too for his skill and patience for his masterpiece of transcription and commentary on the Clap (by the way, he also explained Steve's precise technique in that piece)

I saw them do their warmup gig at Tavistock Wharf which they also used for tour rehearsals over the preceding week. Amazing to see the band in such an intimate venue and watch Steve seamlessly swapping between two guitars and his lap steel during And You and I.
The body of a 90 year old, the fingers of a 20 year old. Always been the case for Steve. So glad he can still do it. Gave me countless great live memories. He might give Keith Richards a run for his money.
Could pass for anything written by a southern u.s. black of the 50s to the 80s. But it's written by a white Englishman in his early to middle age adult years. By the way, most of what was being pumped out in movies and TV in those years starting in the 50s or 40s, was this really slow, often simple whole note stuff, that Gene Autry or some protestor would put out. That basically made people fall asleep. Blues would oft be too slow too. Except for some songs. That's the way I saw it. If not for swing, into boogie woogie, into rock and roll we never( possibly?) wouldn't have got Steve Howe. At least not as the major name he became. I see it now as music biz was latching onto trends, urban responses, and advertising. At shows, with people who were there to get ideas of what was grabbing young people. Who were their target audience. Like Epstein, or Gene Simmons, some rapper checking clubs, yes for entertainment, but yes to see what was going on. So the labels were just keeping the business going. And decade after decade it kept going. Until about the 00's. What a world business is. It definitely went too far in figuring teens, and poverty minorities, and angles of promotion in entertainment to get people to buy stuff.
