    IMPORTANT After posting this video, I learnt that the idiomatic expression ‘call a spade a spade’ may be considered offensive to some people. When the saying first entered the English language, the word ‘spade’ referred to the garden tool used for digging in the garden. Unfortunately, however, more recently, the word ‘spade’ has been used as a derogatory (insulting) term for Black people. Because of this, you may decide to use an alternative expression, such as ‘tell it like it is’ or ‘give it to me straight’ to convey the same meaning.
    This is a very interesting article if you’d like to learn more about the evolution of this expression:

    Hi my dear Proficient Masteress and mentor Lucy, I am very much thankful about your the most miraculous, mind-blowing, delightful, guidanable and excellent lesson about C-1 and C-2 level. According to me, I feel that C-1 is the level of fluency for a non-native speaker who tries to become fluent like the native and C-2 is the level of fluency for the native who is already fluent in the fluency of a language.

    "To call a spade a spade" has an equivalent in Italian, but with bread. We say "dire pane al pane", that sounds like "to call bread, bread".

    Hi Lucy ! Could u please teach me the difference of “must” and “ have to” ? I’m Vietnamese and I’m want to know that. Thank you!

    • @EnglishwithVahid1
      @EnglishwithVahid1 22 дні тому

      "Must" often conveys a strong sense of personal obligation or necessity, and it is commonly used when the speaker feels strongly about the necessity of an action.
      Example: "I must finish this report by tonight". "Have to" often implies that the necessity comes from an external source, such as rules, regulations, or other people.
      Example: "I have to finish this report because my boss said so." "Must" is more common in formal contexts and written English.
      Example: "Students must wear uniforms." "Have to" is more common in everyday conversation and informal contexts.
      Example: "You have to try this new restaurant." Got it? If not, I can explain more.
