Last year 3 birds hit my house windows and died does that mean I need to tear down my house to prevent the deaths? Hell no.
+Tana Jones Nice comment. But i think is rubbish (i don't want to offend you). There are a lot of techniques to prevent the most of this unwanted kills, but we don't use them, because this would slightly increase our energy bill. Would you pay this? By the way, there are thousand of other endangered species as well - like salmon or tuna. The best and effective way is to stop eating them, but what do you this will happen? ..
+Tana Jones I agree. But at the same time I think about priorities. Unfortunatelly I don't know much about tax regulations in the US, but I know the prices for energy are, compared with other countries, very low. (I am from Germany) I meant priorities in this way, that people are able to spend a lot of money for unnesessary things like big cars or unhealty food (and thus causes for medicine etc) or other stuff. It is the same problem im Germany as well. As long as people don't get clear about their priorities (in this case to spend a bit more in the environmental protection) the environment will suffer and with it the human being. In my opinion there is in nearly every household a high potential in saving energy with very low cost measures. As i already sad, the problem is the priority and with it the behaviour of peoples.
actually that means you should replace your house with a nuclear power plant. It's safer for the birds that way.
I love the "extincting" bit AHAHAHA every web browser comes with this thing called a SPELL CHECKER! USE IT! EXTINCTION!
That was a fault of the environmental impact survey. The plant should have been required to build somewhere else. The problem isn't with solar power but with choosing poor locations.

Joshua Zimmer like your so called brain!
this form of thermal solar energy was developed at a time when silicon cells for photovoltaic solar panels were very expensive to produce. basically it's a steam-driven power plant but instead of burning coal or using nuclear fission to generate the heat to produce the steam, thousands of heliostats or mirrors reflect the heat of the sun onto the top of a tower which is basically a boiler. there is also a political element to this type of solar plant, because this is a steam plant the workers are all in unions and they employ steam engineers, turbine engineers, mechanical engineers, electricians and maintenance mechanics. lots of jobs and lots of labor needed to run a thermal solar plant, much the same as would be needed to operate a coal-fired or nuclear power plant.
since that time the cost of silicon cells has dropped dramatically. a photovoltaic plant doesn't require much to keep it going once it is established, you need people to keep the panels clean and cut the grass and bushes, you do need electricians and mechanics to diagnose and replace components if they do fail, but that's about it. you don't need steam engineers, turbine engineers, mechanical engineers and other support personnel so a lot of people used to their traditional high-wage jobs would be eliminated. that is what makes doing away with thermal solar a very touchy subject...
Unfortunately, this type of turbine driven generator must -- of necessity -- have its boiler essentially open and un-insulated and way up in the wind stream. There is substantial heat loss by reflection, radiation, and convection. Swarms of insects are attracted by the bright light. These lure flocks of birds to their deaths. Eagles and falcons go in after the flocks of birds... Thirteen square kilometers of land had to be sterilized to prevent bushes from growing around the mirrors. Ivanpah was operating at less than 20% of its advertised capacity, and the power output is substantially reduced in the mornings and evenings, so you only get optimum power for about 8 hours a day. (The incoming solar power striking the mirrors is roughly a cosine function).
You still need power from other sources at night -- probably oil. If you try to use battery storage, that cuts your daytime available energy at least in half.
Other than these "minor problems", this sounds like a great idea!

In the Arab world, they have some ingenious designs. Several designer set up solar panels with servo motors to shift the angle of the panels through the day but one in particular set the panels up to move so that the reflection coming off the panels come together on a series of copper pipes, heating up the water inside and running a steam engine to generate even more electricity. As a side bonus, the incredibly bright light keeps most birds away.
These plants are completely the second part of what you just said. But God forbid we took a tiny bit of airspace from birds.

Why no statistics comparing the number of bird deaths between technologies? Is this even worth mentioning or is it the worst thing to happen to birds since the jet engine? Also how important are these birds to the ecosystem, and how many are getting taken out versus the surviving population? Is it worse than all the oil spills combined? The skyscraper and window deaths combined? No context means no value in saying any of this yet, cause everything we do has consequences measurable in death across every species, including ours.

Yes definitely, search up people having solar panels at home to generate their electricity. I am from India, a generally poor country with majority of the citizens living in poor countryside, rightt. The Indian govt is investing heavily in solar power, and apart from very large scale solar power generation projects, it has started the project of been building solar panels on individual village homes so that the villagers can generate their own electricity, which will ofc be FREE. Imagine not paying any electricity bill (the major part of money spent for solar power is actually in setting up that panel and circuits, and here, the govt is doing it for free or at highly subsidised rates in the villages). It has greatly helped villagers.

The killing of birds is just one of many flaws integrated into the design of these wanna feel good "green" energy plants.
Hopefully they can sort it out. In the meantime, coal power plants are killing us and the plant by CO2 emissions, mercury polluting our water and fish, and other harmful emissions in the air.
@@garybauer124,
Clean coal power plants vastly reduce emissions. C02 is plant food and has nothing to do with climate change.

Duh. 100% of the world's credible scientists who study this issue say it does, but I'm sure some random guy on UA-cam who has zero relevant education or experience knows better than the world's top scientists. /s
P.S. No such thing as "clean coal." Buh-bye.

Meanwhile, lets ignore the millions that die from air pollution and fossil fuel related deaths and let's focus on a few hundred that get zapped by the cool sun beam energy station 🤔
wouldn't be deaths in the millions of people if they put their penis in their pants .__.
@@XxGhost141xX what do you mean
I doubt millions of birds can die from air pollution.
But yeah the birds will evolve to avoid it, or wont.
@@Spells-sd1mj Its a long explanation but I'm simply saying that statistically the numbers wouldn't look so bad if people stopped reproducing at the rate they currently are.
Plus less people on the planet would perhaps lead to less pollution so even less likelihood (I hope I spelled that right) of fatalities related to pollution.
@@XxGhost141xX less reproduction would lead to an aging population with more power using medical equipment and other things such as mass automation which consumes electricity
How depressing. One way or another, everything man does seems to have a negative ecological effect.

There no such thing as a positive action without negative consequences. This also doesn't just apply to humans, literally every change in nature has negative effects.
What's negative about a few birds getting killed, when 100,000 of them per day die at natures hands.
Wow so efficient! And eco friendly!

Oh look, paid wildlife activists are now starting to start controversies and kill and idea right before it starts.

This Solar Station is now the Ultimate Weapon in the Galaxy my Apprentice!
Don't be too proud of this technological terror you've constructed. The ability to incinerate a bird's feathers in flight is insignificant next to the power of the Force.

Can we stop making bug sprays, bugs die from it
Mercarri He knows
Yeah let's just stop making everything that kills bugs, animals. Basically these people want everyone to live like cave men, yet they hurt the environment everyday without realizing it.

“The world’s second commercial solar power tower plant, PS20, located at the Solar Platform, started operations on 27 April 2009.”
“Costing approximately €1,200m, the plant was completed by 2013 and it produces approximately 300MW of energy for approximately 180,000 homes, equivalent to the needs of the city of Seville.”
PS 20 is still online.
Wayne Breivogel I’m not asking about or discussing anyone who is blanket this or blanket that. I’m also not the person to say that just because program A was produced by person B, that every detail of program A must be either true or false, depending on how you view person B. The question was simply whether these were the same mirror fields that the documentary suggested weren’t any longer functional.
@@grammaticus2800 I’ve seen the “mocumentary”, the big “complaint” was they’re supposedly dependent on natural gas (which was a disingenuous and misleading statement). You tell me which plants were decommissioned.
