My number one pick would have been KOS-MOS from the Xenosaga trilogy (which honestly deserves a modern remake/remaster, as the trilogy is fantastic, even if it's long and heavy on the cutscenes). But I was still more than satisfied that we got the likes of Joker, Sephiroth, & Pyra/Mythra (the others I was indifferent towards at worst). The only character I was a bit confused/annoyed by was Pirahna Plant, but even that was something I just shrugged off since I had already pre-ordered the game by the time Pirahna Plant had been announced, so I would have gotten it for free anyway. Terry & Kazuya I didn't really care about as I wasn't particularly familiar with them (I knew _of_ Kazuya very vaguely, but that was it), and Steve I simply didn't care about one way or the other as I don't play Minecraft (I played it years ago on XBOX 360, but even then that was only for a few months or so before I lost interest and never went back).
You have to admit, Steve, Sora, Kazyua, Min Min, Sephiroth, Joker, pyra/mythra, terry, Banjo, Smash ultimate will go down as one of the greatest collection of games ever made. Hats off to sakurai, you made one incredible game ♥️♥️

I literally had the same thought like Faye on Pythra, saw them and instantly wanted to main them. Now they're one of the best overall and I just feel bad for picking them..
