Hello from the future! It's 2023, and I saw Richard performing last night. He's still absolutely incredible, if anything, his voice is even better, and he's still cool as f#@k! The voice of my generation and one of our greatest songwriters, and his songs have definitely stood the test of time. Long may it continue!
"History" begs to differ and believe me, i LOVE Nick McCabe but they've put out some great stuff in his absence (though yeah 9 times out of 10 his presence makes anything they did at least 5x better)
Honestly, watching Richard, both Simons and Pete, this doesn't feel like the Verve. It's just not them. It's like watching a superior Britpop band (this was filmed right at the peak of Britpop too - April '96). It's just missing the genius of Nick McCabe which took the Verve beyond the reach of other bands.
This was the Time I fall in Love ! and long before...since 1990*~believe it or Not, we have 2022 and this Melody I never wanna miss, it is a masterpiece and Richard rock it like always perfect' and He have Steve a solid drummer and since the beginning in the background, I LOVE IT! Peace.
I always liked this more than Song For The Lovers, it's a good song by Richard. I don't think it really fits the Verve though. Yes it's soulful, but It's just too much of a radio friendly, straight verse, chorus, almost superior version of the 'Britpop' template. The Verve are so much more than that, and nothing on Urban Hymns was that neatly presented. The Verve had great uplifting songs, but the psychedelic funk was just as much a part of their identity for me. Urban Hymns has that funk throughout - Come On, Rolling People, Butterfly, This Time. This song just wouldn't fit with the rest of the album.
didn't know that It was originaly a song from the verve. I'd like a lot the version of Richard Ashcroft on the álbum Alone with everybody 2000. A curiosity of vídeo this one.
Lots of songs from Ashcroft's solo stuff, were recorded for Urban Hymns. But they were immediately rejected for better times, when McCabe cameback in band. Good examples - A Song For The Lovers, Lord, I've been trying, Everybody, New York, You're On My Mind When I Sleep, Brave New World...
@@cookiekooke Well I had this band that was really successful. The Guitarist was the real talent and had a sound no one could match. Then I got an ego - went solo. Produced a load of middle of the road, Radio 2 playlist songs and refused to acknowledge the talent of my former bandmates. Sound familiar?

God i wish the Verve would give it another go...they really were something special....
This song sounds better being played by The Verve!!!
No McCabe, no The Verve.

Jack Morrison
History would be even better with McCabe on, in the way that he made Sonnet and Lucky Man soar
Like most of his songs. Song for the lovers being another example
@@FerryLuckyMan still, sounds better by this 'version' of The Verve minus McCabe... Simon Jones makes difference

Well said. Comparable to The Roses without John Squire.
I'd love to see this whole session !
I HAD NO IDEA THE ORIGIN OF THIS SONG WENT BACK SO FAR.
SO MUCH LOVE, ONE OF MY FAVORITES SONGS IN LIFE.
Song For The Lovers was also originally from Urban Hymns recording sessions
me too
this is pure nostalgia, and this is the first time ive heard it
Sounds like the track of youth. Progress, Hardship, and reflection, banging tune.
Incredible to see this video 25 years after it was cut. They went out and conquered.

This was pre- Urban Hymns! How this didn’t end up on there I don’t know. Just wish it did!!!
This Song should have been in The " Urban Hymns" Album
Esta canción podría haber sido parte del álbum que le seguía a urban hymns... al igual que "this could by my moment"
Would have been way out of place to be honest.
EXACTLY! the optimistic follow up of sorts @@gabrieldario5871
Was this not going to be the next verve album after that
Love this version. Can't believe ive just discovered it!
Same here, on both counts!
woww, where did you find this gem?? Amazing!!

Totally agree. I love this song but it definitely wouldn't fit on Urban Hymns.
This was the era without nick mccabe! Also, is that Noel Gallagher on piano?
That's Simon Tong recording the piano part to the song.
This is so amazing, thanks to share it :D
Legend 🙌
Sad they arent a band. They could tour and release great music and make enough to where they all could live comfortable
Pretty sure they're all living comfortably 😂

Rare footage of a young Deidre Barlow.

Cracking tune but It's The Four Tops
Head Honcho p
Jan Tune
The opening lines are pretty much nicked straight from I'll be there by The Four Tops
Who doesn't like the Four Tops? 🥰

Urban Hymms wouldn't become a Chart Topper if Nick McCabe did not return.
😍😍😍😍
Get it back come on
Wtf and nick????
conor germer he was kicked out of the band at this time
Css
Says a lot that they rejected it for Urban Hymns - but lazy Ashcroft picks up the scraps for his crummy solo career.
Lazy Ashcroft? Wow? Love to see your body of Work!
