Hi fellow builders in today's video i'm building the 1/35 scale Willys Jeep from tamiya. full build video from start ro finish in one upload. the construction, pant weathering and placing the decals
August 10, 2022---thanks for the video as I have a couple of these kits, along with Italeri's which comes with a trailer. But I'm going to use mine in some zombie/apocalypse dioramas, along with other mil-surplus vehicles such as the 2.5 & 5 ton trucks.
Great tutorial!; I know this video goes a bit back, but I have a quick question for you: Working on the same kit, primed in Tamiya Fine Grey and painted with Tamiya Lacker spray paint in Olive Drab; can I use now wash paints like Citadel Agrax Earthshade straight into the model?, or being enamel paints they would require a prior clear coat? (Not really clear as the clear spray can is also Tamiya and I’m assuming is also Lacker no?). I do have a hand full of Citadel primer spray in several colors, but someone told me not to use them if I was using the Tamiya Lacker as they are meant for Enamel paint only). Thank you for any help 😊
I'm just getting started in this hobby, I have this model, I was under the impression that everything needed a primer before painting? I have a matt white primer I planned spraying on everything, but now I don't know, doesn't look like you did anything like that. Also, I don't have a sprayer, I have to paint everything with a brush for now. Great video, I'll be watching it over and over as I work on my model. Thanks!
Just curious, were you in the Army or other service that goes to the field? I was... 5th Infantry Division (Mech) and 2nd Armored Division from 1988-1995, then back as a contractor from 2000-2015. You go out on one short field exercise when in rains, and things get VERY dirty. Mud everywhere. I've been to maneuvers in Germany (Grafenwoeher and Hoehnfels) during the winter months. Nasty, rainy, and muddy. This is just for 15-30 day exercises. Now go to war for months on end. Yeah, they got dirty, muddy, faded, and beat up.
Nice job. Started modeling again and this gets me even more motivated. I’m new to the weathering so I really found that interesting. I’m working on this Willy’s model but with the missile launcher variation. Thanks again.
It is very interesting to watch the assembly of this kit, but trying to buy one has, for me, proved impossibly. A kit of one of the most widely- produced military vehicles is very rare.
Really cool model! Nice weathering effects. What did you mix with the pigment to create a mud paste? I have the same product and I am about to use it on a Sherman tank model. Take care! Drew
@@JohnBuilds it was interesting alot of content in about 20 minutes. Enjoyable nevertheless. I still like your livestreams much better, you actually kind of explain what you're doing. It's much better for an amateur like me. I will continue to watch these short videos though because, I may pick up some tips along the way. Thanks for all your content. Is this a new channel for you.?
@@stevenwheaton874 ye i will be building live on my old channel, tbh without the ad revenue i got from john builds, i could have had to close the channel within the next couple of months
@@JohnBuilds I hope the model will live up to your expectations! I am about to assembling the Traction Citroën 15 - 6 at 1/8 and it is a huge work. Good modeling ! :o)
The rifle is upside-down. It would fall out if it were like that.

Thank you my friend
Great work except for your choice of music, horrible!
Hi Some love the music, some hate it my friend
Nice build video, its a really nice kit from Tamiya. You have a new sub aswell.
Thank you CT scale modelling
I do not understand the weathering on war verhicles, in that time they where brand new or view years old. But everybody's taste.
Without weathering model can look very much like toys. That’s why 99% model builders weather models

Thank you Peter. My plan to 2022 is to release a lot more build like this, showing different techniques
Great work, I bought that kit last week and I’m looking forward to building it. Some great tips John.
Thank you Carl. It’s a great enjoyable build
What deval option did you choose? Love this kit. Whats crazy is most of these were just straight up left in Europe after the war.
Hi I can’t really remember which build option I used, I’m thinking of building the tokem larger model very soon

Totally agree, some of the kits I’m looking for are unavailable
E-bay, Tamiya willy's jeep is actually cheaper than buying in the shop - as little as £10.99, of course this doesn't include postage.

Hi principal drew. Just basic tap water was used with the pigment to make the mud paste
Amazing attention to detail 👍👌👍👌
Thank you mark
Great work John gotta love Tamiya. Have you found out what tank DD relative worked with and it you build 1?
Hi Steve. I’m still waiting for them to get bk to me, with details and some pictures
Excellent work
Thank you
It looks like the size of a hotwheels toy car.
Yes it’s about that scale my friend
This is a little different kind of video than what you usually do. But, very interesting, how long did it take to build that model? Great work.
hi steven, this kind of video normally get the views. this little jeep from start to finish with filming and editing about a week

Thank you my friend
Vey nice.
Thank you Eric
Nice model. Well done !
Thank you Daniel, I’m hoping to get the new 1/16 version of the jeep

I like working in 1/8 scale , I’m building the Knight rider KITT in that scale atm
Awesome John! Thanks for posting. Just curious: why didn't you build and add the included figure?
Hi seb, I’ve never been a big fan of figure in models, the quality is always lacking
@@JohnBuilds Sounds reasonable. Thanks for the reply.
