Yes, she's pretty, but 'OL LUPITA ONCE SAID that NATIVE US BLACKS have NO CAPACITY to play actors in African roles. Smart foreigners like her from other countries are absolutely unconvincing as actors in US Black people in major motion pictures and now are chosen to play Native US Blacks ALL the time. Maybe white people buy it but they are stiff and look confused in scenes.
Giving foreigners Native US Black roles is just as bad as when European Americans were chosen to play roles of First Peoples of the US. It's got bigotry behind it all. There is plenty of Black talent. Sure, these people can play any role they want to IN THEIR OWN COUNTRIES.
What Hollywood does is racist or the execs are stupidly impressed with their British accents. What Lupita said is racist. No pass.

She is beautiful. And this conversation about colorism is very important. And there's several aspects of colorism because it not only affects the way the black community sees itself but also the way we are seen by the white community. For a very long time in Hollywood, dark women were people like Zoe Zaldana, Hally Barry, Beyoncé, Rihanna. Dark skinned black women had (and still have) a hard time. On movies, they were not given diversified roles (moms and cleaning ladies), and in the music industry, they couldn't make it. They weren't Beyoncé, black enough to appeal to the black audience and light enough to appeal to the white audience. But things are changing. I love me my Viola Davis, my Adut Akech, my Lupita, my Danai Gurira, my Normani, my Anna Diop (I have a massive crush on her). This book is important to change the mindset of dark skinned black women since their young age, to give them confidence, to tell them they are beautiful. Because the way you see yourself has impacts on what you become. This self hatred that exists must be treated.
@@timsawyer9231 Ikr. Viola Davis is perfect. I am always telling myself that I need to age like she did. And she is an amazing actor, but we only could see how amazing she is when she was given the opportunity to show us. And I agree with you, things haven't changed a lot, but they did a little bit. I am optimistic about the future. I think it's important for light skinned black women to acknowledge their privilege and to talk about the issue. It's very important to raise awareness.
I hope one day, being a good or bad actor won't be a matter of ethnicity because we all have seen that color has nothing to do with it. But right now, unfortunately, there's still preconceived ideas on what constitutes a good actor and specially a good actress and even when they all admit that being good or bad has nothing to do with color, they invent other excuses like dark skinned actors don't sell. Anyway, I hope in my lifetime, I'll get to see a real change, not only in Hollywood, but in the world.

@@timsawyer9231 I actually know this painting. And Brazil has a serious problem with racism. More than 50% of the population is either black or mixed race and still, black people are the poorest, black people aren't really represented in the government, you don't see them in certain spaces, like restaurants, etc. And even in the media, they aren't really present. I don't want to sound dramatic but there's a form of apartheid going on in this country and it doesn't look like it is getting any better. But I still hope things will be better in the future.

And just for you to know, many people that you pointed aren't actually what I consider to be dark skinned. They might not be as light as Beyonce but they aren't as black as Viola Davis for instance.
