For anyone who hasn’t viewed this, YA GOTTA SEE THIS ONE!!!😱😂 Talk about your “pre-Coders”!!!!! Everything from needing a strong back to “take care of three wives”, to out & out audible “passing gas” (for real too!😂), to homosexual innuendos while being slapped with a strap on the rear end!!! Even if you have to save for “watch later”, YA GITTA SEE THIS ONE!!!!! (PS: Also listen carefully to the lyrics of the songs the black chain gangs sing - - unbelievable!) 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼TYSM for this film! 💕🙋♀️
Excellent expose of the convict lease system, with nice touches throughout. Right up there with other expose social issue films of the pre-code era, including WILD BOYS OF THE ROAD and HEROES FOR SALE.
Similar to I Am A Fugitive From A Chain Gang, yet in many ways better. Dix is excellent as always & great change of pace role for Charles Middleton. Watch this one.
After having watched this pre-code gem so many times I've actually lost track, I finally had to see if I could find out who did the brilliant cartoon-like drawings of the 6 undertakers. I couldn't. But although I always knew Max Steiner composed the soundtrack, I found out from Wikipedia that one of the cast member assisted him: Clarence Muse.
01:07 through 01:50 - people's lives matter. I post this without sarcasm. Here is a 1932 film boldly exposing unfair, inhumane, and unconstitutional treatment of inmates much the same as the internet has increased awareness of how many suspects are treated today.
If this movie had been remade, 25 - 30 years later, Benny Hill might've been a good choice to cast, for the role that Eddie Hart played; but, for some reason, was un-credited for: the character named Turkey Neck Burgess, the mess hall cook.
+PizzaFlix I know back in the 30's n 40's movie theatres were a big deal and the only way to watch movies. However, were movies in the 50's TV or Movie theatre movies? I know we had a TV in 1963 (of course my bedtime was 7 pm thenn, so there was no late night TV watching for me). Just wondering. BTW -- OOOPPPPSSS I submitted this comment on the wrong movie uploaders page even though I know I watched it on your uploads (was watching it for a 2nd time), but it was definitely meant for you. Geez, getting old sucks... brain fizzles, parts of the body sag and fall off...memory fades - well some of you understand!!

Richard Dix was a very good actor.

Pretty earthy and believable, for a 1932 prison/chain gang movie.
Great ending!
