That's for the original xbox and ps2. Hell, if you have an old SNES you could get NHL 94, that was the best retro hockey game besides Blades of Steel.
EA's NHL franchise needs a complete overhaul I'm talking new in-game engine & everything. Ever since NHL 15 each year literally looks like the exact same game minus a few minor tweaks it's honestly a joke at this point.
i've always loved franchise mode but to actually play the games on superstar is impossible. no matter the sliders i use i outshoot the AI by 15-20 and lose with the goalie having a .750 SV%. i've stopped playing, i just play threes now

I used to play it cause I didn't have a PS, but when I got one in 2017 and got my NHL 18 - I was blown away how cool and complex the gameplay was. IMHO you just can't go back to NHL 2004 Rebuilt after playing modern games.
I want “be an nhl pro” mode like they had in the ps3 days, I remember picking Connor McDavid before he was drafted and playing to be the first overall pick, and then making a Datsyuk be a pro and trying to hit 1000 points, those were the days....there is no reason why that shouldn’t be in the game, but ea doesn’t care, they dominate the sports video game market and they don’t really have competition , they have no motivation to improve or listen to what people who buy their products have to say, they add 2 features that don’t change the excitement of gameplay, they just re-wrap the same sh!t and shill it like it’s worth 60 dollars, it’s sad.

In real life hockey, you can hit players, specifically, when they back skate or do a spin o rama, they just don't bounce off a chara or byfuglien check with ease and no loss of puck like they do in this game. So, yes, if hockey is all offense and no defense, then yes, NHL 20 is the most realistic game ever.

I believe the community manager for EA NHL stated last year they know about the no helmet glitch and weren't going to remove it since it doesn't effect the game! I think people like having the ability to do it!

No line of sight needed for passing or puck interception. Absurd checks, no look passes, every goal is on the rush or a cheap one-timer. Ice tilt, passing is pathetic in the game etc etc
This is the best hockey game by far from the previous installments. Franchise mode is the best, been playing almost every day. Hut is much improved, you have so many things to do to get cards or coins for free. My HUT team is an 88 and I didn't even buy any packs. I already have two icons, just remember when building your team focus on what synergies you want and get players that will unlock them. By doing that you can even beat ppl with a HUT teams rated 90's and above. FYI Blackhawks are rated the highest in franchise :) GO HAWKS!!!

For 19 I had to make a note on my phone and write everything down. So annoying that they didn’t correct that, such a simple thing to put in.
Hopefully they bring an option in NHL 21 so players can choose to have the specific broadcaster for whichever team they play as (Dan D'uva for the Golden Knights, RJ for the Sabres, etc.)

the puck physics when entering the net need to be better. it's like bullet hitting kevlar, it just stops. that's not what happens in real hockey. also, James Cybulski on play by play isn't great. he's always screaming
Game play wise it is, they're forcing people to play 3v3 rather than threes, which is BS because Threes was probably their most played mode last year lol. They ain't slick. Be A Pro is pretty dope with the updated skating and pick ups. Time to expand on these modes and make them more robust.
So they finally dropped the NBC guys? I'm not complaining because I cannot stand Doc Emmerick, but the new guy sounds like NFL Blitz. However, gameplay on this game feels much better.
Sports 001 I’m unsure as to whether I want to buy it. I’ve only ever played the gm mode but nhl 18 and 19 I had tons of problems with the game crashing at random and not being able to advance any further. Is there any of that in this one?

Jamann1014 nhl 17 18 and 19 all do it and I’ve had two different consoles. The nhl games are literally the only games that crash on my console. I don’t buy hard copies anymore. I’ve uninstalled and reinstalled countless times over the years with the same problem. It’s the most frustrating thing on earth.

My biggest issue with NHL 20 is the lack of updated rosters from EA. We are now a few weeks into the season and you would imagine that they would have sorted out the rosters but no...still needs updating to the NHL teams, and then you have the other leagues and well thats even worse. But they really should work on getting the rosters updated properly. For instance, no Adam Fox in Rangers system at all. Thats just weird, since he is a a player with a great talent that might grow out to become a top2 D-man and that have had a great run at Harvard and the US developmental team before that.

NHL 20 has the best franchise mode ever. Trading drafting and seeing your team improve rating wise has never been any better. The franchise mode is addictive and immersive. It's the one mode that I truly care about the most. The 3's mode is fun, especially with a couch co-op buddy. Truth is, it's the best NHL franchise ever.
Why did they ruin the whole presentation thing I will never understand. It’s refreshing to hear new commentary team for sure. But at the same time, there are some many things they could’ve done better. The intro seems super rushed. They don’t really talk about the teams current standings/ streaks. And what is up with the whole goalie goals against/ save %. It is exactly identical between the two goalies when they show it at the beginning and completely inaccurate. That’s my biggest complaint. I don’t even know if there is a way to fix that.

Why is the pick essentially glued to the stick? Why are the passes always pin point accurate? Why are you able to weave through traffic while still perfectly able to handle the puck? Why isn’t the puck more loose? Where’s the actual puck- stick physics?

It is evident, that we need to be having these conversations with parents and young people, to end the stigma and create an open forum free of embarrassment and shame. It is also necessary to conduct research on how sexual abuse may further affect marginalized groups such as those living in diaspora, ESL children, and those with special needs. We need to provide young people with the tools and agency to speak out against sexual abuse. This needs to come both from within the home, and through education at school and from our healthcare providers.

I gave up on Be a Pro when I simmed like two weeks worth of games (mid season) only to find my league leading character in points get demoted to the minors. Then I struggled in the minors to even score. It's a joke of a game and EA is a joke of a company. Online vs. play is the only reason I still buy this game at a heavy discount. I refuse to pay more than $35 for any NHL title and then out of principle I refuse to give them anymore real world money. EA has gone from the most respected of gaming publishers to the biggest joke of the industry. Despite what the PR reps have to say, greed caused this. To deny this is to deny reality. Nice review! Nailed my thoughts exactly. The only reason I haven’t created a team is because of the sluggish menu navigation, it’s awful. Along with the next gen version, they HAVE to do something about getting it on a new engine. I would hope they already have plans in the works to get that done.
They SERIOUSLY need to give us a story mode and more attention for the NHL games like they did for fifa and NFL. EA really need to give Hockey fans something special and stop being lazy with the Hockey games. But I realize this is EA and im asking for a miracle at this point..

It would absolutely be the best NHL game ever if they could fix one simple problem. The stats during season and franchise mode are always incorrect.. Especially the goalies!! They are always way off and they said they had updated a patch for fixing this issue.. They did not. Often times during an away game the goalie stats are exactly the same. I have gotten 4 shutouts with Grant Fuhr but one game he 1 shutout listed...the next game it zero!! This is an extremely irritating problem! Please fix it
Player NHL 20 last night and let me just say that NHL was the ONLY game that I still buy from EA nowdays, well was the only game. The gameplay feels so extremely bad, game speed is extremely slow, defenders poke check at players feet and not the puck, like usual player AI is beyond crap while the opposing teams AI is pitch perfect in everything they do, the hit stick is broken as shit, players feel clunkier than ever, the list goes on. I really hope that EA dies soon so that these sport licenses can be picked up by an actual reputable game developer
I like your review Mike , but to me as good as the new commentary is , it’s very generic, it’s weird it’s exciting but generic, for example , rivalry games like the Devils and Rangers , no mention of it at all , just two teams playing each other , it kinda takes the excitement out of the game!! Even a fight they say nothing about it at all!! Hockey is about rivalries!! That’s what makes it great!! I don’t know why they didn’t add it, hopefully in a tuner they do because it would make the game awesome! Right now it’s a Ferrari with a v6 engine!!

I honestly totally love this and I played them all since 94. Not the best, but the best of this last generation in my opinion. A breath of fresh air.

the puck physics when entering the net need to be better. it's like bullet hitting kevlar, it just stops. that's not what happens in real hockey. also, James Cybulski on play by play isn't great. he's always screaming
Game play wise it is, they're forcing people to play 3v3 rather than threes, which is BS because Threes was probably their most played mode last year lol. They ain't slick. Be A Pro is pretty dope with the updated skating and pick ups. Time to expand on these modes and make them more robust.
So they finally dropped the NBC guys? I'm not complaining because I cannot stand Doc Emmerick, but the new guy sounds like NFL Blitz. However, gameplay on this game feels much better.
I play Franchise mode the most, and i honestly can say that im really enjoying it .game play much more improved then last year.
Sports 001 I’m unsure as to whether I want to buy it. I’ve only ever played the gm mode but nhl 18 and 19 I had tons of problems with the game crashing at random and not being able to advance any further. Is there any of that in this one?
Sjamsucks that wouldn’t be the games fault if it’s crashing it’s either your console or disk has nothing to with the game.

Jamann1014 nhl 17 18 and 19 all do it and I’ve had two different consoles. The nhl games are literally the only games that crash on my console. I don’t buy hard copies anymore. I’ve uninstalled and reinstalled countless times over the years with the same problem. It’s the most frustrating thing on earth.

I prefer the eashl player customization of nhl 14 back on the 360. This new eashl on next gen is a complete disrespect on how it evolved. Ea should be ashamed on how backwards the eashl went on next gen
I feel like they should be ashamed of how bad the game has been since NHL 15.
My biggest issue with NHL 20 is the lack of updated rosters from EA. We are now a few weeks into the season and you would imagine that they would have sorted out the rosters but no...still needs updating to the NHL teams, and then you have the other leagues and well thats even worse. But they really should work on getting the rosters updated properly. For instance, no Adam Fox in Rangers system at all. Thats just weird, since he is a a player with a great talent that might grow out to become a top2 D-man and that have had a great run at Harvard and the US developmental team before that.
So for a guy who likes nhl but dosnt play the games alot, is this a good game for a noob like me?

NHL 20 has the best franchise mode ever. Trading drafting and seeing your team improve rating wise has never been any better. The franchise mode is addictive and immersive. It's the one mode that I truly care about the most. The 3's mode is fun, especially with a couch co-op buddy. Truth is, it's the best NHL franchise ever.
Why did they ruin the whole presentation thing I will never understand. It’s refreshing to hear new commentary team for sure. But at the same time, there are some many things they could’ve done better. The intro seems super rushed. They don’t really talk about the teams current standings/ streaks. And what is up with the whole goalie goals against/ save %. It is exactly identical between the two goalies when they show it at the beginning and completely inaccurate. That’s my biggest complaint. I don’t even know if there is a way to fix that.

Why is the pick essentially glued to the stick? Why are the passes always pin point accurate? Why are you able to weave through traffic while still perfectly able to handle the puck? Why isn’t the puck more loose? Where’s the actual puck- stick physics?
And you can't skate while doing a deke, I don't know why the skater freezes while doing a deke.

I gave up on Be a Pro when I simmed like two weeks worth of games (mid season) only to find my league leading character in points get demoted to the minors. Then I struggled in the minors to even score. It's a joke of a game and EA is a joke of a company. Online vs. play is the only reason I still buy this game at a heavy discount. I refuse to pay more than $35 for any NHL title and then out of principle I refuse to give them anymore real world money. EA has gone from the most respected of gaming publishers to the biggest joke of the industry. Despite what the PR reps have to say, greed caused this. To deny this is to deny reality. Say it with me, Fuck EA!

Other teams goalies stop cross creases like nothing while our goalie lets shots get sniped from the circles 5 hole. Also now with the slow-no you can see how many times the goalie makes a levitation glove save where the puck is obviously not going to go into his glove but he grabs it anyways. This game blows, do not buy it.
does anyone know if there is an option to not do the extra micro-managey things like talk to players about how much they like the team and skill tree that breaks down specific bs other than overall attributes? havent played the game yet so im curious is all.(i actully like managing salaries and stuff i just dont see why random pop ups should be a thing aside from injuries and scouting reports)

Franchise Mode... The game has 6 different difficulties since forever, even a free chess app for your smartphone has like 10. Have fun!

With all the cross creases and "high rated" players using backskating to glitch their way into the zone and camping the corners with their back turned to you looking for the cross crease, this game is far from good

Nice review! Nailed my thoughts exactly. The only reason I haven’t created a team is because of the sluggish menu navigation, it’s awful. Along with the next gen version, they HAVE to do something about getting it on a new engine. I would hope they already have plans in the works to get that done.
They SERIOUSLY need to give us a story mode and more attention for the NHL games like they did for fifa and NFL. EA really need to give Hockey fans something special and stop being lazy with the Hockey games. But I realize this is EA and im asking for a miracle at this point..

Vurx yes but not everyone in the khl has the ability to skate with the puck to the slot at will like they can in this game. No reason chara should have the same agility as mcdavid. It’s just a shitty game and you’re trying your best to justify spending $80 on a roster update.
Sjamsucks I fully acknowledge it's way over priced for what it brings, but the issue is not in "glitch goals",yes the agility is an issue, you are completely correct, I'm complaining more that when they are in the slot, people score almost everytime that should happen. The attributes and size effecting people ability to do this is a problem they should fix

The biggest problem with the game is the outdated AI.
It would absolutely be the best NHL game ever if they could fix one simple problem. The stats during season and franchise mode are always incorrect.. Especially the goalies!! They are always way off and they said they had updated a patch for fixing this issue.. They did not. Often times during an away game the goalie stats are exactly the same. I have gotten 4 shutouts with Grant Fuhr but one game he 1 shutout listed...the next game it zero!! This is an extremely irritating problem! Please fix it

Player NHL 20 last night and let me just say that NHL was the ONLY game that I still buy from EA nowdays, well was the only game. The gameplay feels so extremely bad, game speed is extremely slow, defenders poke check at players feet and not the puck, like usual player AI is beyond crap while the opposing teams AI is pitch perfect in everything they do, the hit stick is broken as shit, players feel clunkier than ever, the list goes on. I really hope that EA dies soon so that these sport licenses can be picked up by an actual reputable game developer

I like your review Mike , but to me as good as the new commentary is , it’s very generic, it’s weird it’s exciting but generic, for example , rivalry games like the Devils and Rangers , no mention of it at all , just two teams playing each other , it kinda takes the excitement out of the game!! Even a fight they say nothing about it at all!! Hockey is about rivalries!! That’s what makes it great!! I don’t know why they didn’t add it, hopefully in a tuner they do because it would make the game awesome! Right now it’s a Ferrari with a v6 engine!!
