Super Godzilla was the first kaiju game that I ever played that effectively nailed the feel of walking around as a giant rubber suit, and even today that feeling still holds up. Its gameplay is completely oddball, but if you've ever wanted to smash a city as a 16-bit mega monster, this is awesome.
This game's great! Love how it captures the campy charm of the old-school kaijus. ...And it feels a little bit like an RPG, like Pokemon or something, which, understandably, is not _everyone's_ cup of tea, but I'll be damned if this beast is ever going to brute force or Hyper Beam his way out of everyone's hearts! You can't help but admire the people of Tokyo, having a massive abomination terrorize the city every other week for over 50 years. You get used to it.
I used to play it at my aunts house then played it again when i got older and learned very quickly how much i hate Mecha Godzilla and Battra in this game

Going to see Godzilla King of the Monsters a few years ago and hearing these themes in the movie took me back to my childhood. I remember playing this game as a little kid and loving every moment of it. Then seeing Godzilla on the big screen followed by the Super Godzilla remix was just too much for me.
I remember as a kid not being sure if this game was bad or if I just sucked at it. I love the attack animations they make me wish this had just been a turn based RPG

This game took me so long to beat because I had to hit every special point , and it always bothered me there weren’t any ways to save progress. Still, thank you for this. I woke up thinking about it lol. It’s nice to see an obscure game from my childhood that I cherished.

I used to have this game: Pros: Monster roars, 8-bit Godzilla theme, classic Mechagodzilla cameo, punching Biollante's tentacles away was a good way to start the boss battle, turning Godzilla into Space Godz- I mean, "Super Godzilla"- was fun, if you're good enough, you can do it to fight Mecha King Ghidorah. Cons: Walking everywhere gets boring, walking into buildings gets annoying in later stages, too many UFO's, getting close to Mechagodzilla (either you know EXACTLY what I'm talking about or you have no idea), game isn't long enough (and they shouldn't have started with King Ghidorah as the first boss).
I had this game as a kid! My little brother LOVED Godzilla! (We grew up on the old black n whites) so my parents got this for him mostly. It was a challenging game man, like even for him and he was the one who could beat a rental game in like 24 hrs.
I remember getting this game for Christmas when I was 13 I got to open the gift early on Christmas Eve. Long story short, my mom was upset I beat the game 4 hours later. 🤦🏾♂🤦🏾♂🤷🏾♂🤷🏾♂🤣🤣😂😂
This is a decent game, but seriously, WHY did it take until the damn PS2 era to get a real no bullshit Godzilla game? You figure giant monsters fighting each other and destroying everything in sight would be something game developers would be able to get right from the very get go, but they kept doing weird puzzle games or hex based simulators. The formula was simple, monster stomp, monster smash, monster RAAAWWWRR, but damn if it didn't take forever for them to realize that. Even non Godzilla licensed games like Crush, Crumble, and Chomp were weird and anything but straight forward. I guess King of the Monsters on the Neo-Geo was about the best game of that type we'd get for years.
Well, we had decent Godzilla games, but they were only released in Japan. Godzilla Kaijuu Daikessen (SNES), and Godzilla (Arcade). Why we couldn't get those games? I don't know, but it better be a good reason behind it.
Rampage? Rampage World Tour? I had a lot of fun with those. Still surprising the lack of good games in this genre tho. King of the Monsters was decent I guess, but not good enough
I still love playing this game on emulator from time to time. It's cool how the US release uses the older Black Hole aliens MechaGodzilla (the original version uses MechaGodzilla II) because MechaGodzilla II wasn't available internationally yet and so most US audiences wouldn't recognize it. I also remember being able to (only once each)... - Reach the second Battra before it could mutate. (Gotta love how it just pops like a balloon, as the video shows.) - Get the S Energy and become Super Godzilla against Mecha King Ghidorah and just barely being able to reach him before Tokyo was 50% destroyed (a few seconds after being warned about 45% being destroyed; Mecha King Ghidorah just happened to be on the side of the map closer to me rather than the far side like he tends to be), which allowed me to instantly become Super Godzilla again when Bagan's stage began.

With the force field and that damn triple-slam attack, Mecha-G was the biggest pain in the ass in the game. Most times, I just ended up using tail whips and body slams to take him out.

This is a good start for a Godzilla game like this. I think they should try again just add selectable monsters after you complete the main story like Godzilla VS (PS4) and also have a Vs mode! Story mode with Godzilla or Story with other monsters that have somewhat unique stories to each, and a VS mode, Online and offline just have a VS mode. Selection on skins for Goji and the others Showa, Hesei, Millennium, Legendary skins. All that jazz
I feel that this one of the games that AVGN did a little bit of a disservice to of being overly critical off. Seems like a really nice game to me. It looks like it should and the monsters you expect to have are there. Sound is great as well.
For 1993 standards Graphics 10/10 Soundtrack 10/10 Gameplay 6/10 Immersion 10/10 Storyline 7/10 The game is short, kids in 1993 didn't have high expectations for video games and neither did a TV production. But for a 1.5 hour gameplay, it was immersive and full of unique experiences and music that could grip kids with short attention span over and over again. Big fan of repeating patterns.

I'd say MechaGodzilla (in the US version of the game; the Japanese version had MechaGodzilla II) was the most annoying battle for me because of his constant body slamming interrupting you before you could attack (then sometimes followed up immediately with an attack of its own).

But I found a website that had it as a browser game, AND I FINALLY BEAT HER AND THE GAME!! Fucking 17 years later, and I finally got to see what the ending was like 😅
It was a weird game with faults, but the OST was good for the era and the SFX was on point from the movies. Plus the fights and animations were EPIC! Makes me wish an anime or something had been made following the plot of this game. I still own an original copy for my SNES. Yes I know there are far better SNES games, but I still enjoyed it.
