In my personal opinion, she shouldn't have been criticized about it. Your body, your rules! That imperial flag had been used by the Japanese too when they invaded the Philippines but that was not taken as an issue by the Filipinos. Besides, we consider that as a thing of the past and we're now friends with Japanese and everyone regardless of which country you are from. So regardless of your beliefs, you must respect someone's understanding! You are free to discuss your idea but it must be done professionally and not belittle someone most importantly an entire ethnicity just because of a single person who may have made a mistake according to your interpretation of the case or scenario.

I think most filipinos won't care if they only attack Bella Poarch.
This "cancel" thing started when "SEVERAL KOREAN VLOGGERS" Literally several, insulted the Philippine flag. They tear, spit and step on it.. The audacity to post it online was insane!
This issue took a very big hit to our heart. Especially with all the pandemic happening at that time.
We're not a rich country but we Filipino's highly respect and take pride on our national flag. That's how we were taught. We bring this pride and respect wherever we go.

Many of our Filipino workers in korea will attest that many Koreans look down on us and even criticize us of our work as maid or caregivers and on their national tv their celebretie made a joke of how we speak in English but still we are very forgiving people and koreans knows that, we have many koreans here in the Philippines and we do not go to that extreme when there is one mistake of one nationals. We experience more disrespect from koreans but we let it pass. Still we love Koreans. Philippines here in our country are kpop fans and kdrama fans, even Filipinos in many different countries are very much into kpop. The more thàn 1million plus who work in that lowly servanthood industry who do dirty works jobs are very passionate into kdrama because they are far from their families and that is their scape to not be taken over by homesickness. Our history could be hurtful as our countrymen suffered from wars but we shouldn't be using it as a reason to harm anyone just because someone didn't know our history. Instead, let's educate everyone that a specific symbol has negative meaning to us but never expect that everyone should have the same feeling about it.

There's also a 2023 Korean survey about the countries that Koreans hate, and Philippines is the #6 on the list..when i discovered that survey I was so disappointed..i mean, what've we done?..for them to hate us?..i can understand that they hate china, north korea and japan because of the invasion to korea..but the Philippines??..all we did all these times was to protect korea..until now, we are still supporting korea in different types of media..i can even say that Filipinos are the number one fans of kpop ang kdramas all over the world..but what they are doing in return is discriminating and belittling us..
This is also the reason why im proud as a Filipino.. because we've suffered a lot during those three periods of colonization from Spain, US, and Japan, but Filipinos never ever hold any grudge or hate to these 3 countries.. a lot of koreans look down on filipinos even before this happened. that's a well known fact but we always put it behind us, i mean it isn't something new and there's also lot of good koreans anyways so we'd rather have our focus on those. the thing is it's indeed bella's fault for being insensitive about the topic and not researching about it. her not experiencing the tragedy do not mean she could take the topic lightly. the video was her filming tiktok as usual when one took notice of her tattoo. when it blew up she took responsibility, apologized, reflected and did solutions she can do like removing the tattoo. i mean what else can she do aside from those? what's done is done, best next thing to do is what she already did. the issue should've ended at this point, educate her and move on. we were colonized by japan too as well as spain for hundreds of years. suffering and pain is not foreign to us but we learned not to let those emotions control and shape us. why do you think we still have a good relationship with japan and spain after everything we went through? let's not forget our history but let's also not project hate to those who don't deserve it. this went really big when koreans crossed the line by insulting the whole country even resorting to disrespecting our flag tearing it and stomping it. that's when filos decided to clap back defending ourselves from all the disrespect we've been receiving but no we did not go low as they did. we still respected the country, did not do anything to their flag just to get back and just provided facts that we may be poor but we're not dumb so they better stop making it look like they're a superior race. things got heated and good thing a lot of logical koreans took notice and decided to apologize for the toxic ones after some time all the anger subsided and peace between two countries are back 😅. i mean i already saw that coming, not to be biased but philippines have a huge heart and pretty much a forgiving country which our history already proved to be true plus a single tattoo is not worthy to have both countries in a bad blood when our relationship is supposed to have a strong foundation of friendship during korean war.

I just rolled my eyes when I got wind of this issue. TLDR, this was a bunch of kids on both sides, who were still not mature enough for delicate conversations online and willingly jumped on for the dog-pile, that exacerbated the situation.
For one, Bella Poarch was originally from the PH but has been living a third of her life in Hawaii, and where the rising sun was, if I heard it correctly, kinda prominent because of the Japanese Navy (don't qoute me on it). Zeroing in on that one fact that she is Filipino as a cause to attack the whole of PH was just 🤦🏻‍♀️.
The original tattoo was an anatomical heart with red rays on the background. For South Koreans who have been conditioned against the Japanese Rising Sun Flag would see it anywhere that has any modicum of similarity, and we shouldn't blame them for that. But for SKs to expect that everyone should know what it means to them is also kind of unfair, because as much as their media is consumed in the PH, where they expose their culture and traditions, their particular feeling against the symbol were not being shown in their shows, not that they need to.
PH for one find the "come here" gesture with the forefinger as offensive, but unless you actively look for things that Filipinos find offensive, you wouldn't necessarily know that. It is not a sign that you are uneducated or uncultured, it's just that you don't know the culture very well because you are a foreigner, or you live outside the country basically.
So, as much as everyone wants to fault Bella Poarch for the issue, we can't entirely blame her too. Everyone involved in this issue were really just reactive and didn't do their due diligence to understand the situation. The hashtag just put focus on the issue that could have easily just stayed in one corner of the internet.

Actually, I don't know who's bella poarch is. I only know her just because of that issue and I don't have a TikTok that time, only my younger sister and I saw all of their comments, All of the comments are about anger, hatred toward to us. All the insults harsh and hurtful words coming from them are so below the belt. They called us a slave, maid, ugly, poor country, even our brown skin and etc. That issue of bella are all over the news and some UA-camrs tackled that issues too. Bella was the only one did a mistake but Koreans generalized all of filipinos, they're thinking that were tolerating the issues of bella. And some Koreans filming themselves trying to ripped apart our Philippine flag and that's a disrespect, not only for our flag but also for our country. Koreans are never let her breath, they're keep bashing her and after educating them about yultong war, they're saying sorry but all humiliating words that saying to us, really can't move on.

If you go back and look at here tattoo closely, it really is not a sun, but a heart with red pillars. I believe it's an image of "the Heart of Jesus" with the red pillars as the blood of Jesus - which is very familiar to Filipino Christians, especially the Catholics... It's just that, Bella Porch did not explain this image to defend herself but just instantly apologized to those who got offended... I believe she's smart enough to not just easily have her body tattoed with insignificant art symbols, or images, or whatever you can call that. I believe whatever image she decided to be imprinted on her body permanently, is having a significant or sentimental value in her life, considering her being a Filipino (who are mostly very sentimental, generally speaking)

Not a Bella fan, only knew about her because of this issue. But honestly, the Koreans were acting like entitled brats during this issue. It wasn't even a full on imperial flag but just some aspects of it. Bella's not Korean and was obviously ignorant of this history between Korea and Japan. And some of these Korean commenters were talking like learning Korean history was part of the Philippine academic curriculum. That is unreasonable and frankly unhinged - especially when most of them don't even know how much the Philippines participated in their war against the North. Something about it strikes me as hypocritical too, as it is considered an insult if you told a Korean "you look Filipino/Thai." My contention about this entire issue is how comfortable some of these Koreans are about belittling the Philippines. This is not the first or last issue where Koreans discriminated against Filipinos.

Maybe the man mean racist in our own not to foreigners. Sad but it's true. Some of us(actually only few) became racist especially to our own indigenous people but we look highly at foreigners. Our Some rich people were also racist towards poor people. But this only contains less than 0.0001 percent of the philippine population. (Not exact but i just use the figure to visualize how few they were).
In my own opinion, what's wrong with some korean doings is that they generalized the whole country in just 1 people. Degrading the national flag of 1 country is like degrading the whole country. Actually what is sad about some koreans is they hate filiipinos. I just remembered the story of one of our kababayan when a racist korean threw cabbage on him on the bus. He does not do anything with her. He was just their riding in the bus. And when the lady new he was a filipino she threw cabbage on him and what is sad, no one help him. All people on that bus just look at him.

The Philippines also suffered A LOT in the hands of the Japanese Imperial Army...brutal torture and killings done to both soldiers and civilian, even women and children. However, those are things of the past. Surely we can't forget the scars and heartache, but we can definitely forgive. Veterans from opposing countries during WWII have reconciled and forgiven each other, so why shouldn't our generation be the same? Japan is a changed country now. We don't have to dwell in the past.

You know what's ironic? The international audience criticizing kpop idols who are involved in a Nazi controversy, and Koreans criticize people in general who could not recognize the Japanese imperial flag.
And what do these people who were criticized have in common: Lack of awareness.
Just because a symbolism is well known in a country or in any part of the world, doesn't mean that EVERYONE is aware of it. Education systems around the world vary widely, and what may be emphasized in one curriculum could be glossed over in another.
Ignorance isn't an excuse, but it's also not fair to expect everyone to know everything. However, if someone keeps making the same mistake after it's pointed out, that's a different story. At that point, it's on them to do some homework and show a little more awareness. We can cut some slack for the first slip-up, but let's not tolerate repeated ignorance.

But I can't hold myself to keep silent anymore because I read almost all the comments and I ran to a comment about this tattoo being just a religious sign rather than a Japanese rising sun flag. And so I went back to the part of the video and zoomed the part with Bella's tattoo being visible enough, and I clearly can see that it's not a Japanese flag but a heart, with red pillars. As far as i know it signifies the "Heart of Jesus" which I know is so familiar with the Christians, especially the Catholics. It is "the Heart of Jesus with the blood as pillars" which I think symbolizes Jesus' sacrifice... Though Bella Porch did not correct them and defend herself by explaining what that tattoo really was, but just instantly apologized to those who felt offended (and I admired her more for that) but I can surely say that it really is not a Japanese flag, but a "Sacred Heart of Jesus" image

Filipinos aren't actually racists. It's more like xenophobic. I heard that regionalism is very strong in the Philippines and there are people from a region that doesn't get along too well from other regions and, they specifically don't like people from a certain region.

Yes in a way, because remember we’ve been ruled for more than 300yrs by Spaniards who brought with them different ppl from different countries like Portuguese (Magellan) and priest from different orders like Jesuits, Dominicans etc each of them competing against each other for ppl to go to their church or to work/enslaved them and spied for them on each other too. Same with different politicians too. Priest and politicians were either in cahoots or against each other. So, that’s why Jose Rizal exposed them through his books, Noli Mi Tangere and El Filibusterismo. But overall, over the years that had passed the people that we were before the colonizers came are still there within us, our being Asian Pilipino different from other Asians because we moved on, evolving into who we are now. 😬😬 Funny bc I remember in one of SB19 songs “bad and good experiences” kinda molded us. 😬✌🏼 As long as we’re united or majority of us are united for our country we will not just survived but lived a life.

The story started with Bella tattoo but Filipinos got angry when a Korean guy tore the Philippine flag and post on social media. In revenge the filipino used hashtag cancel korea

You should check out Jessica Lee’s perspective on this since she’s full Korean. This whole thing escalated after Bella. As far as Filipino discriminatory towards other race, I think it’s more of the older generations, just like in the US. Older generations discriminates against darker skin complexions. This is why many Filipinos love to bleach their skin. This is very sad thought.

Hi D & J React ... you were wondering about a statement one of those interviewed who said about " Filipinos being a very racist country in our own right". ... I would like to think that what he meant is, being a country of many Islands and many dialects(languages) there is that competition among Filipinos to think of their Province or dialect speaking region to be of a higher stature than the others, thus sometimes stereotypical comments are said to elevate or put down ones' stature. I hope I made enough sense to help you with this?!

I would say people in show business in the Philippines would capitalize and I would not be surprised if they’re the ones who will keep this issue alive even if the Koreans trend a sorry hashtag because they want to stir the Filipinos away from the Korean entertainment industry. I’ve noticed there is an increase of creating music groups similar to k-pop in the Philippines. So I suspect something else is at play now which is really not pretty. It’s tragic really. I was so excited watching some UA-cam channels about Koreans living in the Philippines and now I hear about this. Why can’t people amplify the good things.

What Korea suffered... the same way Philippines suffered during the Japanese invasions. Somehow, Filipinos are forgiving ... but still there are some " COMFORT WOMEN " survivors who cannot forget what they have suffered in the hands of abusive japanese soldiers .

We are racist on our own kind, like, others are bully when there's a ugly guy/girl walks around and they're beautiful/handsome. Just like human who judge what they don't understand.

The emotional reaction of Koreans upon seeing the Japanese Rising Sun tattoo on Bella Porch's porch reflects the deep pain associated with the historical trauma of Japanese colonization. However, it's important to acknowledge that in the midst of expressing their pain, some individuals may have unfairly targeted Bella Porch and the Filipino people. While addressing historical injustices is crucial, it's also essential to recognize the complex and interconnected nature of colonial histories. This includes acknowledging the suffering inflicted by various nations, including instances where Koreans were involved in the colonization and attempted invasion of the Philippines. It's vital to approach these discussions with a balanced perspective that avoids double standards and embraces a more inclusive understanding of historical complexities.
