Just wanna say, seven years later, this will forever be one of the classic UA-cam videos for me. As a massive Vi Hart fan, this video is the reason I found TheOdd1sOut, which introduced me to the whole comic/animation side of UA-cam. Good stuff James, keep it up

Engineers love to round things up, for instance, π²=10 (in my college, it leaked an engineering test that asked students to use π=5, as another exemple)

@@the4thsteve27 To square something is to multiple it by it's self. Or it was the last time I took a math class. So 5 squared is 5×5 or 25. So 3 squared is 9. 3 and some change would be close to 10.
I love how youtube pushes this every pi day
what's cooler about pi is where it comes up in other places in math. From pi squared over 6 equaling the sum of the reciprocal squared numbers to eulers identity being e^ipi = -1, or how every function, using fourier transforms, can be represented as sine waves which are functions of a circle essentially, which ALSO have to do with pi.
Don't forget radians!
(Oh and for Euler's identity, pi being there is nothing special, u can plug in any number instead of pi and you get this cis function, which works for and number. Plugging in 2pi will give 1, which is miles ahead of -1)

Manou Liesker In Engineering we must use sigfigs. This results in a lot of rounding so at the end of the day, while Pi Squared is 9.8696 continued, there are times you must round to 10. So the humor is when James said it can’t be 10, Engineers like myself around the world know there are certain cases that it can.

The reason we celebrate Pi is because it has the formula for all the dimensions for circles and spheres and stuff and circles have infinite vertices... no other shape has that unless you draw a thing that looks like an amoeba.... BUT WAIT you can make ANY rounded shape with circles or ellipses SOOOOOOOOOOOOO you can find the area of ANY ROUNDED SHAPE USING PI! That is why it 'tis so SPECIAL... boom.

That's not true, Koch's Snowflake has a perimeter that is infinite in the limit, whereas it has a finite area in the limit.
I don't personally care about math but my problem is when you said "...it 'tis..." in your sentence, 'tis means it is so you are saying "...it it is...". Not trying to be a grammar Nazi especially on something completely irrelevant to the conversation, it just bugged me slightly and I would be annoyed if I didn't say anything about it

This video surely took a long time to make; and he didn't have students interrupting or looking bored while recording it.
Give teachers 5 hours per 5min lecture to prepare and you might also get this quality in school; but only one lesson per week. :)
