In 8th grade my school did a science fair. My friend had his mom do his entire project. The local newspaper thought it was great so they had an article about it in the paper. My friend bragged about it for weeks. We aren't friends anymore.
their is a kid in my class who never does his work at school he always takes it home and gets all A's the next day i went to his house once and he gives his HW to his mom and went to play a ds
Ethan484 Just you wait, once high school/college comes around, he'll fail miserably and either start pulling his own weight, or drop out. It only hurts him in the long run.
I won first place in the science fair when I was in the 5th grade. My project was “Does mint gum increase or decrease the temperature in your mouth?” Answer, it increased the temperature in your mouth. I had asked my older sisters if they could be my test subjects (I just too the temp of their mouth before the gum, and then after the gum after they chewed for a certain amount of time) and I included pictures of them on my poster board. There was a girl in my class who literally didn’t like me for no reason (I can’t think of anything I did. She just hated me from the moment I moved to that school) and after I won, she started yelling at the teachers and telling them that I cheated because my older sisters “helped me” There was nothing against the rules about having an adult or older sibling help you if you were having trouble with calculations, but they didn’t even help me with that. They just chewed gum for me. The teachers had to escort her out of the gym and she continued to hate me after that day. She and I ended up going to different high schools and we both played softball. During a game with our school playing against each other, she actually came up to me and tried to talk to me all friend like, but I pretended that I didn’t know her. But then my mom came up and recognized her (my mom was a teacher at the elementary school I went to 💀)
In my school (Arg, by the way, so our traditions are different) we did science fairs every year until secondary school. I strongly remember one (I was an older teen, by the way) where I was assigned to take care of a colony of Bombyx mori, and while my mom hated them, I just loved to caress their backs (they use a silk thread to make their cacoons, so their bodies have the texture of silk). During the fair we had all the hatched cacoons on display (the cacoons turn yellow when exposed to oxigen) and middle scoolers thought they were cheese puffs. Those were fun times.

I tried the science fair not too long ago and it sucked! The teacher would give every student a crappy grade for the smallest mistake. The average grade that our class got for the science fair was a C+, even the student did the most intricate project! It honestly makes me glad that it’s only required for one year at our school.
So, the person I was put next to in the gym had an expirement that was LITERALLY JUST DIET COKE AND MENTOS and he ended in the yearbook and got lots of attention... and when I tried to show “how do certain substances affect ice melting” they would say “oh uh yeah cool”
With schools it's always about presentation and the wow factor. Almost everyone did volcanos in my school and it was always a volcano that won. Seriously there was one girl in my class who actually tried to figure out if running like Naruto would be faster. She had 2 kids training. One ran normally and the other ran like Naruto for weeks. She had everything down to a perfect science. Math 100% correct, method perfect, and presentation eye catching. Yet, the kid who threw vinegar in a poorly papier-mâché tube wins because he made the color blue.
A kid did a "do different pops have different effects with mentos" and he got 1st, and I did do mentos make water cold and it did and I got like 12th like BRUH
@@yqiu2848 It reminds me this episode from Phineas & Ferb, when Doofenshmirtz complains because he always lost against a volcano at Science competitions when he was young, and even a poetry one.
Random fun fact so back in elementary school, my friend Henry, who is like extremely smart did two science fares one and fourth grade and 1/5 grade. He did his one and fourth grade on Pokémon cards and his one in fifth grade on magic the gathering cards and he won the county science fair both times
Once my dad slacked off for the science fair, and at the last minute so he wrote "is the growth of moss affected by music?" He bought moss from home depot and cut one shorter XD
Matthew Mannila no but its similar In diary of a wimpy kid Rodrick does a project on what music do flowers like the best They all died because he didnt water them
Bro I’ve been forced as a MAJOR part of my advanced classes to do a science fair that has been made more difficult. And I love it. ( partly because I’m building and improving my planes from last years project)
My school just finished doing science fair and I'm so glad. It was horrible i had to stay up so late just to get my mediocre research and stuff on a mediocre poster.
I'm in 5th grade, but my school just started a science fair, I stay up late just for research all the time, and now I have to restart my project. Wyld you're so lucky that your school just finished T_T
I only had to do one science fair. My question was, "does size and height contribute to meteor impacts?" Which I tested by dropping balls of varying sizes into a bucket of flour and measuring the crater size. The answer was a resounding........ yes
James's most hated people: 5. His college roomate (in the fast food employee shirt). 4. Speech Impediment teacher. 3. The "on the side" customer. 2. His 1st grade teacher. 1. The science fair conclusion.
1:17 out of all those UA-camrs there I have my volume all the way up. I walked away from my phone. I heard a British accent heard something British at least it sounded like it was British. And I knew exactly who it was and then I forgot that when I made my new account, I had subscribed to their channel because I’m subscribed to their channel on my other account talking about without me saying congratulations. You won air.
In 5th grade my science fair project was testing different helmets. I got a plastic dollar store helmet, a bike cap, a control with no helmet, and a construction hardhat. I then proceeded to put them on watermelons and through them off a ladder. For that I won best methodology, which means the judges enjoy violent melon extermination too.
@@Bugsyson it went hard hat, bike cap, control and then plastic simply because the plastic hat actually threw shards of hat into the melon shop it was a bit worse than no protection, but I don't know if that was just bad luck or what actually happens
Having to create my idea for science fair (private school so I'm still in-person at least)...There are a lot of recent comments because everyone is procrastinating the project
I’m from Australia too but our science fair project was a lot less strict and it was right on the edge of covid so a week from when we were assigned most ppl skipped cuz our teachers doesn’t check our home school work
that's the reason I came to this video because in one of Grian's videos from Hermitcraft he named a bird "Ari" and I was like "Oh, that's Jaidens bird" Then I was like, "Wait, Wasn't grian in one of Jame's videos?
I actually enjoyed the science fairs, until 6th or 7th grade I was really excited about my project and actually started early. It was about the effects of different human foods on plant development. I literally grew beans for 2-3 months, recorded the data, made a nice board. I got into the competition part, the first part is just showing it to your teacher for the grade, and I ended up with only a participation certificate and one of the projects in the top 3 was a resided project from my classmates older sister!!! In yearbook you can even see her photo with the project and the only difference was his name on it!! I’m still friends with him and occasionally I still feel salty because he was kinda an ass back then and had no remorse (he apologized but it was halfhearted and probably just wanted me to stop ranting about it)
I hated the science fair. It sucked. I cut my hand one year and I have no idea how I did that but that sucked. Also every science fair smells like baking soda and vinegar which really smells terrible. The only popular projects were the ones that did coke and mentos. I tried that one year and I did it before my mom could get a picture so she yelled at me. I procrastinated another time and got yelled at again. If I had to make another project, it would be on who actually cares about the fair itself. I did not enjoy those experiences and I would probably be a little bit better off if I hadn't had to do that.
1- Apparently, you don't like the science fair because you aren't good at making projects 2- In my school, we have a science fair, but it is optional to participate, so only the people who are actually interested, including me, participate.
For me it was a little bit different in 2nd grade we had to write a essay and make a google slide about a national park we got assigned too (I got the glacier national park 😎) in third grade we had to make ANOTHER essay and poster board about a famous woman (I got Frida Kahlo) we also had to write an essay make a google slide and make a mini version of a famous landmark (I got The Taj Mahal) and in 4th grade we had to write an essay make a google slide and draw some pictures of a state seal? Idk but all I know is none of these had to do with science :)
Seeing Grian was a bit of a surprise lol. Wasn't expecting to see him today Edit: welp, thanks for giving me 45+ replies and a couple hundred likes several years after this vid came out lol
I like science fair cause I get to do a project on something I’m interested in.Last year I did cat lifespans, this year I’m doing natural disasters. Also,my school lets you do a “research project” instead of an experiment, which means you just get data from google and stuff instead of doing an experiment,so I always do those. They also give us like two weeks to work on it and I have friends in my science class.(very smart ones)
My science fair was optional I was going to do it but my only idea was how dose a bullet fire from a gun. But then I realized I can’t bring a bullet to school.
one science fair, i had a question like “do lemons work as batteries” or something like that and i didn’t do ANYTHING so on the day i had to turn it in, i quickly changed it to “what eraser works best” and my bestfriend threw me a bunch of different erasers...i ended up passing don’t know how tho
I did a project about popcorn. I wanted to see if it tasted different if the kernels were frozen before being popped. Survey said it was the same. I also wrote a research paper about popcorn that year. I learned that popcorn was one of the few industries that did ok during the Great Depression because it was a cheap enough snack that people could still afford it.
I know this may not seem very related but in university when I was writing my thesis proposal, I was always coming up with hypotheses that I knew were correct. When presenting them to my coach he said "The value of science is to discover something that is not known and something that may be useful to others. It is actually better if your hypothesis is wrong, because then you have identified a gap in the literature and you get to contribute to closing this gap". I think this was a very wise advice and I wanted to share it with you.
Here’s the difference between graded/school science versus actual science used in the real world. Most ideas for a scientific experiment in the real world stem from unanswered questions that you believe are worth discovering the answer in order to better your own understanding or humanity’s. Because the answer is unknown/unclear, you have to actually make an educated guess based on the information that we currently have. You don’t really have a confirmation that your guess is correct, which is why you need to experiment in the first place. Once you have a better understanding of the answer, commentary on your procedure/experiment is carried out in the conclusion. In these situations, yes, your professor is correct. You end up learning more from an incorrect hypothesis, rather than from a correct one, because if the outcome doesn’t match with the information used to support the hypothesis, you have just learned new information that others could use. The issue with school science is every experiment done has been done already. Type in the experiment question into google, and boom, the correct answer is already there, making the guess aspect of the hypothesis useless and devaluing the experiment you’re doing anyway. In terms of a graded science fair, people tend to gravitate toward the easier question that everybody already answered in order to secure a letter grade on a piece of paper. College has better access to professional grade equipment for experimenting on more obscure questions, but the general grading system promotes the idea of being correct is better than learning about something previously unknown. School is great for introducing the scientific method and how it can be applied, but the system around it is detrimental to curiosity in the long run.
did he know that it said used at different temperatures meaning he had to use his gameboy in hot and cold temperatures so yeaaaaaaa he just made the batteries hot and cold not at used at different temperatures sooooo lecture done but cool love when he freaking split his freaking head off
For my science fair project, My question was “which popcorn brand pops the fastest?” I made the board with a ton of tape and had a huge pocket of popcorn
Ok Surrender. MY science fair questions were horrible. “Will a bridge made of straws or a bridge made of popsicle sticks hold up the most weight?” “How far will a balloon-powered car drive?”
At my school, we only did the science fair in 6th grade. We had to set up the poster boards in the cafeteria and explain our projects to parents, teachers, and younger kids. We couldn’t even go to the other projects.

@@RJLiams yeah I mean they liked the way I made my poster board but still thought Diet Coke and mentos was better
A kid did a "do different pops have different effects with mentos" and he got 1st, and I did do mentos make water cold and it did and I got like 12th like BRUH
This is why I hate science fair, you get volcano, you win. While the even more creative ideas lose, science fair sucks
@@yqiu2848 It reminds me this episode from Phineas & Ferb, when Doofenshmirtz complains because he always lost against a volcano at Science competitions when he was young, and even a poetry one.

Umm so which was the strongest ( I presume hard hat )

School: what are your thoughts on a science fair?
James: No
my thoughts AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
I only did science fair in elementary school and I HATED it. It was so stupid and unnecessarily stressful. It literally made me cry.
I was very stressed too.
as someone who did the science fair for 3 years, it was the first time i’ve discovered procrastination.
Fr i could never do it cause every year i failed
I feel like doing a science experiment or any other school-wide project should be illegal in elementary school
And I just hated it cause it seemed like a complete waste of time
I actually enjoyed the science fairs, until 6th or 7th grade I was really excited about my project and actually started early.

I don't have a science fair
I hated the science fair. It sucked. I cut my hand one year and I have no idea how I did that but that sucked. Also every science fair smells like baking soda and vinegar which really smells terrible. The only popular projects were the ones that did coke and mentos. I tried that one year and I did it before my mom could get a picture so she yelled at me. I procrastinated another time and got yelled at again. If I had to make another project, it would be on who actually cares about the fair itself. I did not enjoy those experiences and I would probably be a little bit better off if I hadn't had to do that.
In Europe we don't have science fair
1- Apparently, you don't like the science fair because you aren't good at making projects
2- In my school, we have a science fair, but it is optional to participate, so only the people who are actually interested, including me, participate.
