In 8th grade my school did a science fair. My friend had his mom do his entire project. The local newspaper thought it was great so they had an article about it in the paper. My friend bragged about it for weeks. We aren't friends anymore.
their is a kid in my class who never does his work at school he always takes it home and gets all A's the next day i went to his house once and he gives his HW to his mom and went to play a ds
***** Thing is evreytime theres a test he "sick" and the school sends the test home
Oh cool what time this year did it happen?
Ethan484 Just you wait, once high school/college comes around, he'll fail miserably and either start pulling his own weight, or drop out. It only hurts him in the long run.
you act like highschool is challenging
I only did science fair in elementary school and I HATED it. It was so stupid and unnecessarily stressful. It literally made me cry.
I was very stressed too.
as someone who did the science fair for 3 years, it was the first time i’ve discovered procrastination.
Fr i could never do it cause every year i failed
I feel like doing a science experiment or any other school-wide project should be illegal in elementary school
And I just hated it cause it seemed like a complete waste of time
I had science fairs back when I was in 2nd and 3rd grade (I was living in New York, NOT THE CITY, but in the state) and they were completely optional and we only presented them in the cafeteria. I loved doing them, and one of my projects was about Tyrannosaurus Rex. If I could do another science fair again (I'm in a different state now unfortunately), I would do another paleontology presentation, but do something on one of my favorite lesser known prehistoric animals like Deinonychus or Eurypterus. If you cannot tell, I'm a science nerd, I speak science
That's nice

My school didn’t do the science fair but we had to do a wax museum. We had to choose a random historical person to research, make a notecard and remember it for presentations(with only important information), make posters, and then on the day of presenting we have to stand still until someone came up to us and we would present our information. We also had to dress up like the person we were researching about.
my school did the same thing in either 4th or 5th grade, I don’t remember which
In my school (Arg, by the way, so our traditions are different) we did science fairs every year until secondary school. I strongly remember one (I was an older teen, by the way) where I was assigned to take care of a colony of Bombyx mori, and while my mom hated them, I just loved to caress their backs (they use a silk thread to make their cacoons, so their bodies have the texture of silk). During the fair we had all the hatched cacoons on display (the cacoons turn yellow when exposed to oxigen) and middle scoolers thought they were cheese puffs. Those were fun times.

for my 3rd grade science fair i put hard boiled eggs in the three different liquids. Fruit Punch Gatorade, white vinegar, and coffee. the experiment was kinda like what would happen if you put your teeth in those liquids (since egg shells are supposed to resemble your teeth) and how they would stain. the gatorade made the egg pink, coffee a light brown, and white vinegar made all of the egg shell nutrients vaporize and made the shell like puddy. i ended up in third place btw. my dad helped me.

It's really not that complicated...
Science fair hack that I did. My topic every year was which popcorn brand was the most reliable. As in which brand after 1 minute, minute and 30 seconds, and two minutes left the least kernels. I wanna say every time pop secret was the best for me. I tried using the exact same project so I didn’t have to do it again, but the school would keep the projects. So I would do the popcorn experiment again. Worked every time and I always made a B or an A on it and one time I actually made it into the top 6 projects one year with 138 students in the class.

My science fair almost killed me. Literally. I was in 3rd grade and I was working on my project one night when I realized that it was getting hard for me to breathe. I was rushed to the hospital and apparently almost died. Apparently, I’m allergic to the Rubber Elmer’s Glue that we were required to use for the poster board, and so yeah. I hate science fairs too James. You’re not alone.

As an Australian we did something different but very close. We did a thing called steam project (also named stem) which stands for science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics. Before when it was stem it didnt include art. Now what it is is basically where you have to create something. Like one year it was a useful thing out of recycled materials and another was making your own arcade game.
I LOVED the science fair. And we also did a roller coaster project in 6th grade where we had to build a rollercoaster out of paper and popsicle sticks and other crap and we had to add in certain elements like 3 hills and a loop and had to figure out how and why a marble could do the full coaster.

I only did the science fair once in 6th grade. My project was on which brand of laundry detergent did a better job, tide or gain. I just took a bunch of white shirts, rubbed them in dirt and then washed and compared them. I forgot the answer but the only part I actually liked was decorating and designing my board with blue, orange, green, and yellow marker. The other stuff was annoying and tedious.
6:58 I love Cosmos, saw 2014 A Spacetime Odyssey and 2020 Possible Worlds. That episode was “Hiding in the Light”
I love Science, I did fantastic in 8th grade Science which was mostly Astronomy, Meteorology, and Geology, my some of my favorite science subjects. 9th grade was Biology and 10th grade was Chemistry and I did decent. 11th grade was Physics, I loved the class but the math killed me.

I can relate to James a lot since I am in a school in dubai and we had to do three big events first was the science fair second the bodyolgy fair and third an exhibition. So I basically went through the same thing James did but 3 time a year. And it feels horrible and you have to work in groups of three for 8 weeks each.
In 8th grade, we were supposed to have a science fair (it was 2 months before covid went haywire), it was only for the students they selected. The best entries were going to be submitted to the Google Science Fair, I was really excited, I was going somehow launch a rocket with using the concept of maglev(crazy idea, I know, but what if you attached 2 really strong electromagnets on the ground & rocket, they could repel so much to probably maybe shoot it up just fast enough to reach the escape velocity of earth?), unfortunately the fair was cancelled a week later😞

in canada science fair has has a major difference, that being leg pain because you go to your gymnasium (you do not present in front of the class) and stand there all day as students come see your exposition and ask you questions about things they found unclear all. It is an absolute hell if you do not get a bench as i never got one and had to sit through the leg pain all day.
From 3rd grade to 7th grade we had to do the science fair (I would have voted I didn’t enjoy it if I knew ur twitter) and we had a list and we needed to pick a topic and we couldn’t pick the same topic all the time because in our homework folder (idk if anyone reading had those) and whenever the teacher asked to see our list we gave it to her/him and then cross out the ones we did. I did “how does coding work” for 3rd grade “100 cups tower” for 4th “robotic arm” for 5th “how much longer does a double A battery last then a triple A” for 6th and “make a homemade fan” for 7th

that one awkward moment you have to tell your parents it's due tomorrow
And it’s 10:00
And you don’t have the materials.
And your parents ask you ‘why are you telling us now?! We’re about to go to bed!”
And then they drive you to Walmart to buy the 3 fold poster board and they’re all sold out
And the store is closing but you have to get that darn poster board
In 4th grade our school did a science fair. It was optional; we got about 50 students (out of 700) to participate. You got to choose what topic you did ( I did 'what surfaces produce the most mould?'). I ended up winning 2nd place so it was pretty good. I then learnt about 50% of the votes were the teachers that liked me, and 25% were my friends (like as in- I have a good work ethic or smthng- lol) I'm Australian
I went to Florida ( because my stepdad is in the military) and we did a presentation on women and stuff and I LOVED it. It was fun to design my thing but it was only in one class room ( in Florida there was to class room attached ) so only the kids in my class could see it but it was fun ( I did the black women that was the first black female to fly a plane)

In 5th grade my science fair project was testing different helmets. I got a plastic dollar store helmet, a bike cap, a control with no helmet, and a construction hardhat. I then proceeded to put them on watermelons and through them off a ladder. For that I won best methodology, which means the judges enjoy violent melon extermination too.
Umm so which was the strongest ( I presume hard hat )
@@Bugsyson it went hard hat, bike cap, control and then plastic simply because the plastic hat actually threw shards of hat into the melon shop it was a bit worse than no protection, but I don't know if that was just bad luck or what actually happens
nice
I think I did the t once. back in Vietnam even. out school decided to be fancy and copy the science fair from the US school. my topic was: do time really fly faster when you enjoying yourself. I use a stop watch and a normal clock to measure the amount of time flow when I play video game, watch movie, or reading comic books. result is that they are all the same…obviously. i just use that as an excuse to play video game reading comicbook and watch movies
My schools only did the science fair from 2nd-5th grade, and we had to do similar things but, we had I think two weeks to do it. But we only presented it to the school by setting them up in the cafeteria and everyone did a walk through before the judges came through. But the main difference I think is we had to write EVERYTHING out on the poster board and you only got 1 so if you messed up you were screwed.
So, the person I was put next to in the gym had an expirement that was LITERALLY JUST DIET COKE AND MENTOS and he ended in the yearbook and got lots of attention... and when I tried to show “how do certain substances affect ice melting” they would say “oh uh yeah cool”
With schools it's always about presentation and the wow factor. Almost everyone did volcanos in my school and it was always a volcano that won.
Seriously there was one girl in my class who actually tried to figure out if running like Naruto would be faster. She had 2 kids training. One ran normally and the other ran like Naruto for weeks. She had everything down to a perfect science. Math 100% correct, method perfect, and presentation eye catching. Yet, the kid who threw vinegar in a poorly papier-mâché tube wins because he made the color blue.
@@rickywilliams1586 yeah I mean they liked the way I made my poster board but still thought Diet Coke and mentos was better
A kid did a "do different pops have different effects with mentos" and he got 1st, and I did do mentos make water cold and it did and I got like 12th like BRUH
This is why I hate science fair, you get volcano, you win. While the even more creative ideas lose, science fair sucks
@@yqiu2848 It reminds me this episode from Phineas & Ferb, when Doofenshmirtz complains because he always lost against a volcano at Science competitions when he was young, and even a poetry one.

Love this vid my 5th grade teacher should this to our class for a Science fair and I thought it was the funniest UA-cam vid ever. I'm doing another one now and i came back to this vid for help.
My sisters were told by their school that they had to do a science fair project that was completely unique. Like, if they googled it, and someone had already done it before, then they weren't allowed to do it. What an unrealistic expectation.
Honestly yah, science fair isn’t good until middle school or high school
which sucks because basically *_everything_* has been done before
When I had my science fairs I would pretend to be asleep so that people didn’t come to me.
Seriously. Any experiment that you can do as a child has definitely done before

I did it from like, 3rd to 8th grade. And from kinder to 3rd we had the "invention convention" where you had to build something. I litteraly put a dog bed in a big plastic container and was like "BOOM DOGGY CARSEAT" and I won cause I had pictures of my cute mini labradoodle all over my board. Looking back on that as an almost 11th grader I just think "TAKE THAT JOSEPH, SCREW YOU AND YOUR AMAZING RAMP FOR THE DISABLED YOU SPENT HOURS BUILDING"

At my school we don't do the science fair, but if you are a GTA student which stands for gifted and talented. You have to do a project in the 4th and 5th grade and if you were in the and if you were a GTA student. You had to do it but if you were a regular student you could choose to do it. I only did the science fair once in my entire life.
It was in second grade.
We did class projects where each class did a project together,we did our project on spiders because Nevada has a variety of spiders. I specifically with my friends who I'll dub Sam, Carly and Dave (two of these friends watch your videos so i don't want to give out their real name, the other passed away)
Dave, Sam Carly and I did the wolf spider and we used my grandpa's camera to take pictures of wolf spiders that were in my backyard, and my sister helped us write a detail description of the wolf spider to go with our pictures.
The wolf spiders aren't "common" in Nevada but they still are around.
We had to put all our information on this big poster board.
Everyone else had maybe two or three paragraphs on their spiders while my group had this detailed like page and a half description we had to find put on a separate poster board just to fit everything.
Our class got third place,it was a school district thing so we got third place for the entire school district which is pretty impressive if you think about it.
Out the end of the year I got to take the poster boards home with me, I think my mom still it.
We weren’t allowed to go in any websites to find projects at my school (this is when I was like in third or fourth grade) and my friend did go on a website and her project was “what time of day is it hottest outside” and (another year, she also looked it up) “how does sports drinks affect heart rate after excercise” she literally stole the second one off a website of some high schoolers or college students that already did the experiment and i got so annoyed cuz she got extra credit and went to state championships (and won a prize, like a $5 gift card or something) for both of the projects

At my school, we do a reading fair. where you have to read a book and make a board about it, I read a book and stayed up almost half the night me and my family did at least because it's hard to use like hot glue for a kid and come up with the story and the plot and all the stuff. And we barely made it, it's hard. all that it teaches us is to read and procrastinate until the last second. Good life lessons school!
We do a science fair at my school but we get months to prepare which allows the teacher to make it more challenging, also if you do it with a partner they judge things more because you had help. Anyways, most people, including me, end up doing it last minute, alone, and everyone ends up getting the same mark with a few people getting better or worse and most of us passed which was good.
If you read all of this, thanks, i ramble too much sometimes.
Me and my partner were working on our project, and this random lady walks in, goes "YOU'RE DOING IT WRONG" and walked away.
We still won.

We didn’t have a science fair per say, we had this thing called the invention convention. It’s in 5th grade. Instead of science projects we had to make some sort of invention, present it to the rest of the 5th grade classes, and 2 kids from the grade are selected to present it at a state wide invention convention. I was a super arts and crafts kinda kid (still am tbh) I was in a massive duct tape phase at this point so I asked my dad to help me make this thing called the draft n craft which was basically a lap desk with storage underneath to hold supplies. It was honestly pretty creative and useful seeing as it was thought up in 2 seconds by a 10 year old. I was one of the 2 kids selected that year and got to go to UCONN to present it statewide. It was a pretty cool experience. Didn’t even come close to winning obviously because it’s not THAT creative of an idea but still.

My school (in Latin America), did the science fairand I ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT! Omg I was o in love with tye science fair and I still am. Every year I search for different project ideas MONTHS befofe it is. Sadly, this year's going to be my last science fair 🥲.
I only ever did one science fair in 4th grade and I won because my project was the only one that failed. Granted we did come up with our own idea when everyone else picked from a list and we did spend a lot of time trying to make it work, but their reason was it showed the scientific method. Like us failing was more realistic or something. Got a medal tho so thats cool
Also as a side note, the judges didnt work at the school and it was against out whole grade so yea. Somehow it wasnt rigged

e t h e r e a l same but with IHE
He isn’t. This was 3 years ago
AndrewPeene Yeah but they can still be friends...
Weirdo3 I know. But there not. What evidence is there of them being friends in the recent future. James would have mentioned him in on of his videos but he hasent. Since 3 yrs ago
Just ask the odds on out yourself
I tried the science fair not too long ago and it sucked! The teacher would give every student a crappy grade for the smallest mistake. The average grade that our class got for the science fair was a C+, even the student did the most intricate project! It honestly makes me glad that it’s only required for one year at our school.
I love ur vids James!
It’s ridiculous how many times I come back to this video, just to hear that beautiful scream at the start
Go to the board game one.
I respect that and you

my elementary school did science fairs but they were optional. i always wanted to do it but i kept forgetting to give my mom the paper so that i could do it, and when i did give it to her, she wouldnt let me do the science fair.
We did science fair since probably 4th grade as well and it was super tedious due to it being a group project. The teammates were either useless or didnt let you do anything so id just sit doing nothing and i got accused for it but when id offer help they refused so idk if this really taught me anything other than woo off day no studies
The science fair...*huge inhale*
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

Me: WAIT , You Know Grian {YES}
I know grian is the best
Same!! I saw grian and I was like YESSSSS
that's the reason I came to this video because in one of Grian's videos from Hermitcraft he named a bird "Ari" and I was like "Oh, that's Jaidens bird"
Then I was like, "Wait, Wasn't grian in one of Jame's videos?
me too bruh
Yes hmmm indeed hmmhmm
This is a few years late, but my middle school had a year long project resulting in a final science night and class presentation. When it came time to choose my topic, I chose this battery experiment. It resulted, like yours, in no difference in battery life. I’d be happy to send you the paper if you’d like to see it.
I first watched this video at a young age and at the time I didn’t think the science fair sounded so bad…my school had a science fair earlier this year and you were right

School: what are your thoughts on a science fair?
James: No
my thoughts AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
I have done it multiple times, and it was/is AWEFUL! My friend, did one on snails, and I forget what the thing was, but her name, was AWESOME! It was "ES-CAR-GOOOOO!!!" because it was something about her raising them.
We had science fair in elementary school but we had to just come up with something we can do research on. One year I did a presentation on bees and I drew the different bees (worker, drone, queen) labeled the parts and presented the hierarchy, communications, etc. I got a blue ribbon and an A
You know why I don’t like science projects?
BECAUSE I ALWAYS HAVE TO BE THE FIRST ONE TO SHOW THE PROJECT FOR NO REASON
Rip
Poor you
That is me too
im not always the 1st one to present the project.

I like science fair cause I get to do a project on something I’m interested in.Last year I did cat lifespans, this year I’m doing natural disasters. Also,my school lets you do a “research project” instead of an experiment, which means you just get data from google and stuff instead of doing an experiment,so I always do those.
He talked like my science teacher when he was talking about the hypothesis
