Yes, for years after this movie, ppl were doing the crane kick. But, for decades, everyone... including TV shows and movies were saying "wax on, wax off".
The late, great Pat Morita faced much opposition when auditioning for the part of Mr. Miyagi. The film's producers didn't want a stand up comedian and sit-com actor (Happy Days) in the film. Fortunately, Morita convinced the producers to hire him, and he gave the absolute best performance. He was nominated for Best Supporting Actor in both the Academy Awards and the Golden Globes Awards.

This was so much fun, I can’t wait till you both check out the sequels! The Karate Kid movies are so addicting, and you gotta love the cute 80’s vibes. 🤣
This was one of my favorite movies as a kid. Some fun trivia about the movie... - Pat Morita, who played Mr. Miyagi, was considered a big risk in the role, as he was previously famous for being a comedian. This film was his first major dramatic role. - The karate instructor for the film trained the "Cobra Kai" actors in a strict, military-like fashion. He separately trained Pat Morita and Ralph Macchio (Daniel) in a careful, hands-on personal way. The fighting styles of the two sides in the film reflect their training. The instructor appears in the film as the main referee at the karate tournament. - The scene in which Daniel first sees Mr. Miyagi practicing the Crane Technique while balancing atop the wooden post featured a stunt double as Mr. Miyagi (which is why he is shown in silhouette during that scene), as Pat Morita wasn't confident that he could keep his balance atop the post. - The actor who played Dutch (the tall member of Johnny's gang with the curly blonde hair who tried to start a fight with Daniel in the locker room before the tournament) was named Chad McQueen. He was the son of famous actor Steve McQueen (nicknamed the "King of Cool"), who starred in popular 1960s movies like "The Magnificent Seven", "The Great Escape", "The Cincinnati Kid", "The Sand Pebbles" and "The Thomas Crown Affair".
What, you didn't mention Bullitt, one of Steve's greatest films and for what seems like eons, was also considered the best car chase scene in movie history ??? For shame, for shame 😊👍 !!!
