Its weird knowing Teletoon is gone. And this is coming from a guy who lives in America. (But grew up with Teletoon original series like Johnny Test, Total Drama and 6teen)
Same for me. I was 6 in 2009, that's when I was introduced to CN and Johnny Test... And boy it was my greatest decision yet. And I'm not afraid to say that I'm easily the biggest JT fan in Salem County, New Jersey! But since then, Wayside, Grojband, Camp Lakebottom and Detentionaire have joined my "Canadian Cartoon Union of the Underrated" (All of these weren't given a fair shot in America, and almost every one was panned by critics and casual viewers.) EDIT: WE SHOULD'VE HAD DN ACE.
I can't believe Teletoon is gone.. Being a Canadian myself, I wasn't a big Teletoon kid. I was more of a YTV kid. but it's still sad to see a channel you've seen multiple times on the channel guide and now it's gone! also, Teletoon didn't just air 2-D cartoons, they also aired a few CGI shows too! the ones I can name off the top of my head are Donkey Kong Country, Bratz, and Casper's Scare School!
Think about it.... "Johnny Test" (my personal favorite Canadian toon), "Wayside", "Jimmy Two-shoes", "Detentionaire", "Camp Lakebottom", "What's With Andy?"... they are all better than ANY reality show at ANY given moment. Hello from Southern New Jersey! Canadian Cartoons ROCK!
I freaking love What's With Andy and especially Wayside, they are great. For me Johnny Test is just alright though... I liked it more than I was younger but it's still a good show, just not a great one
I had no idea that Teletoon was gone until today. I remember watching from a VERY early point, just happening to discover another kids channel beyond YTV in 1997. Your knowledge of Canadian television and understanding of its importance from an 'outsider's' perspective is very impressive and I'm very happy this video exists. Not having been a subscriber to TV for a number of years, and barely watching before cutting the cord for good, I did happen to notice the slow death of that channel, as it was a far cry from what it started out as. The presence of Canadian animation/content was influential growing up and I've definitely noticed something missing in that regard, particularly over the past 7-8 years. Wow.. That's too bad. Excellent video though.
I'm a Canadian and I'm unhappy with Teletoons closer for a different reason the new Cartoon Network has not fixed Teletoons bad scheduling and the old Cartoon Network up until August had an amazing schedule, it's been replaced with Boomerangs repetitive one. I no longer have a network to watch were there's variety.
@@JudeAbrahamMacenohonestly, odds are slim (as much as I hope too) Noggin never did (nor did they care about the people watching), Playhouse Disney never went back, so it’s slim Teletoon would especially with how much more Cartoon Network is known
Man, I remember the day it was launched. I was three years old and my parents explained to me that my favourite channel was cancelled with my shows transferred to a new channel. When you showed the picture of the countdown, I got so many good memories ( and I was only three back then!). This countdown seemed to take forever when I just wanted to see a cartoon. I am so sad to learn that this channel is now gone! Really a defining part of my childhood.
I used to love Teletoon as a kid. I remember they had an event called Camp Teletoon (pretty much small games based on Teletoon shows that toured around the country) and my sister and I begged my dad to take us there when it got to Calgary, as we saw the commercials for it all the time.
Holy cow, that was fantastic. A perfect eulogy for the network whose end marks the conclusion of an era. While I will admit I had a feeling Teletoon was ending sooner or later with its state in its last few years, its still shocking it happened. At the very least, Canada’s animation industry is still doing fine with work animating American shows (The Ghost and Molly McGee, The Loud House, The Proud Family reboot, etc.) and a bit of original content (Total Drama revival, Saving Me, Summer Memories, etc.), even if there is no longer a major form of support in the form of a network that’s very purpose was to support the Canadian animation industry. RIP Teletoon, an icon of Canadian childhoods. Quick nitpick, but Sidekick was not a Teletoon series; that show aired on YTV.
I hope I did the channel at least a little justice on this video. The _Sidekick_ error is on me, I feel like I should've known that! Thank you for watching this one!
I was born in 1992 and grew up with show slike Atomic Betty and that on Teletoon, and the memories of my friends and I hanging out and watching TV will always be precious to me, given that two of those friends (Sean and Harriet) died (Harriet in 2008 and Sean in 2016). We'd watch shows like Atomic Betty afte rschool, then we'd stay up late at night to watch the Detour on Teletoon. Even while we liked shows like Futurama, we also loved how they did their bumpers. Hell, Teletoon had the one cool viewer discretion warning on TV circa 2005-early 2007 during their detour block. This was a time of fun cartons, even if some were dumb, it was a fun kind of dumb where you can forgive the more idiotic cartoons because you can tell that everyone had a blast making them and we had a blast watching them.
When our little town got cable, my first teletoon show was Duckman, it was a black and white episode, and I thought it was going to be a black and white cartoon but it got colour at the end. It was wild for my 8 or 9 year old mind. At the summertime and holiday seasons were great to explore what was on at really late nights, it was all adult content and shorts. Such great shows came and went. I remember Weird Al's Running With Scissors album being advertised on Teletoon with the laughter that was used all time, the Wilhelm scream of laughter soundbite.
Family Channel seems to be the least likely to rebrand, given that Wildbrain (their operators) haven't a license for any major TV brand. The Wildbrain brand was already used to replace Family CHRGD (itself and Family Jr./Telemagino being a response to Wildbrain having lost the Disney license to Corus), however. Corus still has Nickelodeon, which could work against YTV at a later date.
@@nebuchadnezzar8683 Not necessarily. What I'm thinking is that YTV will likely adopt Nickelodeon's brand (again, Corus has license to Nickelodeon's brand and already runs a channel named Nickelodeon, even YTV has similar scheduling to the American Nick). As for the currently active Nickelodeon in Canada, it could become Nicktoons as Treehouse seems more likely to adopt Nick Jr's branding.
What's With Andy, What About Mimi, Cybersix, The Ripping Friends, Baskervilles, Roboroach, Bad Dog, The Kids From Room 402 and many many more. Those were the good old days.
Well I’m kinda from France and I love our Télétoon + channel (lol I make videos about it) but it kinda sounds strange when I learnt that some télétoon + shows are from you guys and not from our French channel, i will miss Teletoon for sure but it kinda had to end at some point I guess
Whenever a new show gets released on Teletoon and YTV it gets cancelled after one or two seasons. I think it has a-lot to do with these channels having the rights to Cartoon Network, Nickelodeon, and HBO Max shows. This explains why their new shows like Freaktown release their episodes everyday so they can get rid of them fast to focus on their acquired shows.

Who knew that Americans loved our cartoons so much. I honestly thought we (Canadians) were the only ones watching. And with how much our TV shows get made fun of by Americans; some credit where credit is due is nice! Thanks! (We really did have the best kid shows - and I say that because of Are You Afraid of the Dark not being a cartoon)
Canada sure knows how to put on a good show, especially in kids' TV -- and just because this video is about Teletoon doesn't mean YTV wasn't also holding down the fort for live-action fare just as well... Thank you for watching this video!
While I didn't see it all the time, teletoon was nice, I guess. I didn't get to experience it as much as i'd hoped. Yes, it's for young kids, but It's genuinely funny and charming, not to mention iconic.
Same For DN Ace, I'm from the US, and I've seen a few Lyon Smith cartoons (Get Ed and Grojband), but that show was an all time banger (I dig the pseudo Anime character design... especially the "straight out of the late 80s" approach of Ace Ripley.) Unfortunately, this cartoon, among others of that late 2010s period would not come to America either based on interest or financial reasons, both of which I believe is bullcrap.
does anyone remember a cartoon about 2 secret agent students in high school who fight zombies or something? some sort of goo/gunk that infects people. i'm dying to remember

Teletoon didn’t shut down it just got rebranded to Cartoon Network
