I have this plate carrier and I concur that it is excellent. I run it with two Spartan Level 3 plates, which are very heavy (10 lbs each) but cost effective. I carry it in my vehicle, in FC LEO capacity as an active shooter rig. I've been able to train in it a lot and it has held up to a fair amount of abuse. Due to the weight I added the HSGI shoulder pads and they do a good job of distributing the weight (~28 lbs total vest weight with plates and extra magazines). Overall I think the quality is excellent for the price.
another great review Nutn! Glad to see it finally! I've been running my Type 4 Phalanx chest rig for awhile now (just took an AR class with it) and it's been outstanding! I don't yet have a plate carrier, but I've had my eye on this one as a possible candidate! I think you've pushed me over the edge to get this as my PC when funds permit. thanks for all the awesome hard work, keep it up , and keep the vids comin!
I like the datapoints you make when it comes to using or not using a plate carrier and what plates to use. Makes a great garnish for a another fantastic gear review, especially on a US-made product. Looks like another good piece of equipment to look into. And I like your review table! Still going strong on your old and new school reviews. It's doing a great job for you. :)
Ran with a set up similar. At 73" I was able to hang my mag low going past bottom edge of plate carrier. Stacked my radio high to one side and aid pouch to the other. Had 9/30rd mags. Solid steal plate front and back. Also a glock and spare mags for that too. Weiggr adss up fast. But moving and cover up under a fat shirt was great.
yesss! been wondering for ages if you would ever around to this high value item. unfortunately, money was tight and with TAG/Shellback increasing their prices with their popularity over the years ( i remember when i could pick this up for just $90! now $200? whattt?) i went with the GGG minimalist plate carrier (swept it up for only $60 on sale!). same thing except lacking cumberbund
so agreed on the colours, i really don't like wearing camo as a civilian, especially if it's in current use in whatever country you're in, plain colours are just easier
Received my Banshee chest rig a while back. Quality is excellent, I went with Black figuring that I can go with other color variations for the pockets/pouches/etc...
Would LOVE to see you do a re/overview of all different types, brands of plates. Love your out look and how you keep it real, so I'd want to hear what your suggestions on plates that don't break the bank. I know you've done DKX but what else is out there that you would trust YOUR life with and like I said I don't want to be charged an arm and a leg. Thanks for all your hard work keep it up the vids are great brother. Double Owl 4 Life!!!
The YT channel EEVblog did a review and build of his current (small) review bench (table) and also a larger one before. Also watch his Monday Mailbag for using a BIG knife ! And he likes the USA, USA ! ! ! Eyes UP and lights down, tjl Sent by Win7Pro64 w/ADSL
Cheers Nutn, always love a gear review. Hope Suspect is doing ok had a bad accident myself when I was 19 nothing better to build a solid appreciation for quality protective gear and safety. Love the vibe on the Chanel lately some cool reviews and biking vids. Keep up the great work. Regards Ben
i have this carrier and LOVE IT! - couldn't agree more about the rear angle cut plate pouch though - needs to be changed to rectangle, i might modify mine...
love this piece of kit Nutn - Waiting on the final peaces form my CPC - the shellback was on the list however with some back issues the CPC offers a great deal more and an internal system that I'm looking forward to checking out. Sure hope it's worth the $$$$$$
Nutnfancy, This is a good plate carrier. It does require modification of shooting position for some users due to the location of the shoulder straps, but that's just a matter of training. I highly recommend checking out the Ares Armor Plate Carrier Silencer for use with this carrier to aid in quickly getting it on and off without that RRRRRIIIIIIIPPPPP of velcro.
Fantastic review. I sure the like the color too. It seems to be priced right or at least for my budget. I have looking at getting a plate carrier in the near future and this may be the one.
I have their aggressor plate carrier, It also takes soft armor as well as plate armor. I used it as a over the cloths vest for LEO work and it held a soft armor hard armor level III combo. The problem with the Aggressor is that the top rows of MOLLE are not standard. But I will say all TAG and Shellback stuff appears to be awesome and everything i have bought from them holds up great!
Great piece of gear. Thanks for the review. If you want to prolong your velcro on the cummerbund, check out the "plate carrier silencer" from Ares Armor. Makes donning the rig WAY easier as well.
NutNfancy a plate carrier should be part of your PPE when at the range, safety at the range means having the proper PPE, you may or may not want the accessories to that plate carrier but minimum level 4 plates and carrier. Competency in safety is paramount on the range, accidents can happen and do happen. a plate carrier does not need to be tactical just functional.
Just FYI, in Massachusetts they have been kicking around a law to require a permit to own a bulletproof vest; said law may have already passed as I haven't checked in on it in a while. So much for "keeping people safe," eh?
Define "bullet proof vest." A ban on body armor is going to be tricky to implement. When the national ban was being discussed AR500 Armor announced they had already switched all their equipment that was armor plates to start producing irregular polygon shooting targets with no factory provisions for mounting. I'm sure other companies producing rifle plates would also easily be able to shift their production lines as well...
My only gripe about my Banshee carrier is the lack of side plate carriers. Got a cheap pair of Eagle Ind. carriers on amazon for like $5. Wish I had plates when I came under fire in my apartments (south CA). I fully endorse owning some in urban environments that a prone to violence.
love the Banshee but would you suggest any millitary plate carrier's,they can be found for cheap.Thank's NUTN.You have saved me a lot of time and money.
hey nutn, theres the kangaroo pouch that you left out. Shellback Tactical also makes a double AR magazine pouch that goes in there as well as a small admin pouch.
Bought one with SAPI IV for my home. Keep it in a quick-access locker in my bedroom, loaded with 3 mags, attached pistol. If something goes "bump" at 2AM, I have to assume that it's someone attempting to do me harm --- yes it could be the dog, rowdy neighbors, etc, but I wouldn't know until I check it out. I wanna make sure that if it's an armed badguy and he opens fire on me, that at least I have a chance incase he opens fire.
I've owned one of These for about 2 years now and I give this plate carrier about a 5/10 as a guy who is 5'7" this is too big to be a nice "just cover the vitals" plate carrier. My first huge problem I had with this is that I honestly could not properly shoulder a rifle with this PC, is that users fault? Possibly, but it still falls flat on its face when comparing it to an lbt 6094 a or a crye jpc in regards to the operators comfort when in use (I wasn't able to get full range of motion with my arms with the banshee). Another huge gripe I had was that the intended kangaroo pouch only held 2 mags compared to what seems like a status quo of 3. Along with some other minor gripes I had, I'll move onto some upsides to the system, for a rugged American made piece of gear, it is pretty reasonably priced. Plus the workmanship was good on mine for what it is. This is all my 2¢ but if you need a plate carrier I would seriously consider stepping up to a crye jpc if you want an awesome just cover the vitals PC (I've also heard great things from the people I know who bit the bullet and invested in crye AVSs and CPCs) or if you want something banshee sizes the get an lbt 6094, hell, the new first spear strandhogs (that's spelled wrong) look cool. It's a buy once cry once then never look back sort of thing. I put enough faith in my 2¢ that if you read this nutn I will offer let you borrow my jpc to review.
Have this PC. LOVE LOVE LOVE IT!!! It's got killer options, and is top notch quality for a great price point in comparison to competitor variants (IE LBT 6094, Mayflower apc, ect) Look for it on LA Police gear if you burn into the video l8 ;) PS you can find ways to integrate H gear to it such as HSP D3 chest rig or rigs by Mayflower
I dig the ranger green because it doesn't stand out as much and is much more professional looking than a camo one if you're not in the military and are a contractor who's allowed to bring their own shit (but not in any camo pattern) to the sand box. It blends in well with both my woodland BDUs and Multi-Cams. I suppose coyote tan does too, but I prefer the OD Green.
Nutn! I am looking into getting the DKX Max III plates but due to thickness I am wondering what plate carrier to get, I know in the video you said that the banshee is one of the only carriers you know of that accepts the thick DKX plates. On DKX website they advertise the CSE rifle plate carriers to accept the Max III plates but what I reconized that on looks alone the CSE gear rifle plate carrier looks identical to the Ares Armor Aspis plate carrier. Could you possibly review the Ares Armor Aspis plate carrier? Thanks keep up the hard work!
Hey Nutn, great video. Thanks for all the good info. I happen to be a big fella, 4x 5x. What systems would you recommend for me to check out? Thanks for your help and keep up the outstanding vids
Nice rig....just for argument sake lets say money was no object what brand and type of plate carrier would you recommend and where would you recommend getting level 4 trauma plates from?
Some of my friends have and really like these. I'm thinking it's time to replace my third hand several year old (and still holding up pretty well) Condor MOPC.
Hey nutn does the dkx have a shelf life thats one reason I went with AR500 I may never need it but I also didn't want to have to buy new plates every 10 years when I hadn't used my old ones? Thanks
Hey Nutn' i've been in the market for quite a bit shopping for a quality plate carrier but i'm undecided as to buy either the Banshee or the Mayflower R&C Assault plate carrier. To be honest i like the Mayflower a little better even though it's about $75 more than the Banshee. Have you had a chance to look at those? What's your opinion? Maybe you can do a review on one of them.
I hate it when people say you only need level 4 if you're in war and besides that regular body arm will do fine. Thats insane logic. Even if you get hit with a freaking .22 you still want the best protection possible. If someone breaks into your house , you want to throw on the best protection possible that way if you get shot you don't end up with broken ribs or other health problems that will take you out of the fight and let the bad guy finish you off. People think level 3a means the bullet just magically bounces off the soft armor and you feel nothing. Its like getting hit in the chests with a baseball bat.
Yep Visually from what I can tell they are. A lot of companies buy low cost carriers whole sale for resale them. yielding big profits. Hell, A guy attempted to sale me a condor COMPACT plate carrier valued at 30 bucks, for $400 at a gun show. Ar500 is great, But Id buy the carrier else where.
Their plates are way too heavy in my opinion. And as nutn mentioned, their chest rigs often have bad sewing which screw up the proper attachment of mag pouches or whatever. If you really want armor, then I'd save up for the lightest plates possible and make sure that the rig you use to carry them fits you well before you buy it.
There is only enough space on the front of this to put three HSGI Tacos? I wish there was room for 4. If I go with 3 double Tacos things start to stick out. If I had to go prone I don't want a lot of bulk up front.
Nice video Nutn, have you seen the 5.11 tactec plate carrier. I've thinking about getting a plate carrier and these two had caught my eye. Whats your thoughts?
Hey Nutn', do you know anything about Spartan Armor Systems' Ultra high Molecular Weight Polyethyline (UHMWPE) plates? Seems like it might be comparable with the DKX stuff.
Im not huge but im no where near small. im 6 foot and have a big broad chest and shoulders. I was looking at this or the Pantac USA Valhalla plate carrier. which do yall think would fit better? anything else you would recommend?
How many mag pouches can you run on the front? I see nutn has 4 here but every picture I've seen they run 3... Can it accept 4 mags with 6 columns of molle?
will we ever get a table top table top review of the reviewing table?
Thanks for all the great info! I'm only 15, and my parents are not into shooting, so I'm on my own fir buying guns and gear. Your videos help a lot.
Since I'm 6'6" 325, I guess I'll just stick with a riot shield...
Love the old school tactical gear reviews!!! Thanks Nutn for getting us "Tactically Squared Away"!!!
So run away if you have bad cardio?
I have this plate carrier and I concur that it is excellent. I run it with two Spartan Level 3 plates, which are very heavy (10 lbs each) but cost effective. Just bought some level IV plates from shellback! Thanks for the vid. As always, great stuff!!!

Great review Nutn... I tried to apply the discount code on the basic banshee plate carriers but no go. Still bought two cause they are pretty smokin.
yesss! been wondering for ages if you would ever around to this high value item.

so agreed on the colours, i really don't like wearing camo as a civilian, especially if it's in current use in whatever country you're in, plain colours are just easier
Good review Nutn'. Great quality as usual. I Personally like the Mid Length Reveiws i.e. under 20 mins but over 10 mins. Keep up the great work.
Thanks for all of your hard work
Received my Banshee chest rig a while back. Quality is excellent, I went with Black figuring that I can go with other color variations for the pockets/pouches/etc...

Great review Nut'n. Once again you find ways to make me reach into the bank and spend more money!
You rock. Thank you for covering this one I was hoping you would
I've been waiting for this one nutn. New you'd love the value and features of the bamshee
i have this carrier and LOVE IT! - couldn't agree more about the rear angle cut plate pouch though - needs to be changed to rectangle, i might modify mine...
Been looking for a new plate carrier perfect timing thanks for the review bro
Good budget carrier. Haley strategic D3 chest rig instead of the lame-o 5.11 mag pouches. Keep up the great work Nutn!!

Great piece of gear. Thanks for the review. If you want to prolong your velcro on the cummerbund, check out the "plate carrier silencer" from Ares Armor. Makes donning the rig WAY easier as well.
Most common price for it is 169.99, wouldn't say operator quality but more for rec use or not extended use.

Nice rig....just for argument sake lets say money was no object what brand and type of plate carrier would you recommend and where would you recommend getting level 4 trauma plates from?
How about a "review table" review?
Some of my friends have and really like these. I'm thinking it's time to replace my third hand several year old (and still holding up pretty well) Condor MOPC.
ROFL "Great reviewing table". Nice one dude.
i see that FN SCAR clip! Is that a secret trailer to for FN review? So pumped TNP Strong 2014
04:20 SCAR 17 REVIEW IS COMING!!!!!!! SWEET!!!!!
Can you update your description box with some links for ordering this gear.
wow, the picture @ 4:00 is beautiful! What state are you in?
+Kustom Hooligans I dont think that is a pic of him, it looks like Afghanistan.
Love my SBT Plate carrier
Phalanx Type 4 Chest rig is on sale on TAGs website for 50 bucks!
its only black though!
Thats insane logic. how about a review on AR500's plate carriers they got some bad ass stuff and armor combos for cheap
Most of the carriers on AR500's website are condor rigs.
oh are they? i didnt know that
Yep Visually from what I can tell they are. A lot of companies buy low cost carriers whole sale for resale them. yielding big profits. Hell, A guy attempted to sale me a condor COMPACT plate carrier valued at 30 bucks, for $400 at a gun show. Ar500 is great, But Id buy the carrier else where.
Martial Malice
No shit?? well happy to hear you know your stuff and didnt let that guy get over on you. thanx for the info its appreciated.
Nutn, do you still have the same color patch feat. On this video? Great video by the way
Marines generally aren't allowed to run privately purchased gear, Air Force and Army it comes down a lot to the unit Commander
Great review Nutn.
Good price for USA made
I was just about to go to sleep! Ahhhhhh
Hm... I was thinking of getting an LBT 6094, but this is pretty cheap and looks decent.
He did a video on it and he likes it.
Hey Nutn', do you know anything about Spartan Armor Systems' Ultra high Molecular Weight Polyethyline (UHMWPE) plates? Seems like it might be comparable with the DKX stuff.
Great Video Nutn!
midwest armor has very similar plates to dkx for cheaper and a new plate the
VENTURE FM3 leval 3 that weighs only 2.2lbs! nutn do a review on them
DKX is awesome but don't leave it in the heat of your car. If you need a plate that stays in your trunk AR500 all the way.
Check out Condor's new plate carriers, The Sentry and the made in the USA Cyclone.
I tried the coupon code it registered that it was there but did not take the 15% off sadly
Anyone know how these compare to the tag rampage? The banshee seems really small on taller guys. No video reviews out there from what I can find.
Im not huge but im no where near small. im 6 foot and have a big broad chest and shoulders. I was looking at this or the Pantac USA Valhalla plate carrier. which do yall think would fit better? anything else you would recommend?
say you where shot and knocked unconscious in a river, for example, would those floating plates keep you afloat?
No.
ok
Jackson Hayes What the fuck lol
can u tell us more about the Faylinks rig u showed us ?
Good review, nutn.
How many mag pouches can you run on the front? I see nutn has 4 here but every picture I've seen they run 3... Can it accept 4 mags with 6 columns of molle?
What kind of bite valve was that on the camelback at 12:27? Anyone know? Looking for the straw and bite valve in OD Green.
I didn't hear the table say anything.
Im 5'6" about 155 and have 35" chest being a smaller guy I have a hard time finding plates carriers any idea if this would work for me
How much does the Interceptor vest weigh?
I'm about 5'7 and skinny. Would this fit me decently enough to where it's not bulky and flopping around and also high enough to run a tactical belt?
Thanks so much bro
+llxRageFilmsxll m-xxl
If you are worried about it being too small, time to bulk up
