@DavetheGourd ... the definition of Art cannot be given in a phrase - unless it were: 'Art is poetry'. But what does that mean exactly? And what does it mean for painting in particular? All this is addressed in my book!
I have an intuitive definition for Art. I haven’t found a way to articulate yet. But I can say from my vista that pornography and art are separate. I feel moral disdain for porn. Am I morally perfect? No. But I aspire toward the elevated.
Of course pornography is not art! And film-making and Critique are minor arts, though potentially nobler than basket weaving and and the writing of instruction manuals. KIRAC uses sex in a way that is only pornographic in an ironic manner. This is artistically problematic and even dangerous, but not without interest and even a degree of poetry.
Using pornography-which is fundamentally dehumanizing and vacuous-in an ironic way in order to ridicule the dehumanizing, vacuous nature of contemporary art itself isn’t really art. I wouldn’t even call it minor art. It’s just social commentary. Literally masturbating in order to illustrate the masturbatory nature of contemporary art is just too facile and adolescent for me. If you pour clear water into muddy water, the muddy water will not become clear. The clear water will become muddy. That’s what I feel this strategy is doing for KIRAC. They are becoming muddy water.
...you should watch the KIRAC film itself, and my commentary video on it, before judging... I consider Stefan a genuine and serious artist (in the context of contemporary art, which is a very rare thing, though in other ways both my father and Aaron Kurzen were also). We can try to understand and respect serious and honest people like Stefan and Kate. I'm glad they exist and feel that what they do is important. I don't want to do that kind of art - unless certain of my videos might be so concidered, which I do not - but, given that we are sunk in the bleak situation which is ours - even the classical realists are against us! - supporting KIRAC is an artistic duty... that's how I see it anyway...
On what episode of Kirac are you reflecting here, where can I see the footage you are citing? Thx for helping me to read the value of Kirac, their in the studio intellectual reflections I like - their irritating pushing of people makes me want to switch it off.

Art has to be defined or will forever remain a battlefield.
Did you read my book?
...if not...
@@Paul-talkhaven’t yet. I wish to know your definition of art.
@@PanShakelyI highly recommend the book. Accessible and informative.
Art is the dream of objectivity within inescapable subjectivity.
@@PanShakely read both books. He has a book called “What is Art?” as well.
