Great video! I never would have been able to resurrect my W-740 without your help. The tip about the reset AC port and how to undo the battery clasp were lifesavers. Thanks again for a well produced and valuable "how to" video. Bonus award for the towel trick! One of the miniature screws inside the watch fell out and I never would have seen it without the towel underneath! All 4 miniature screws inside were only hanging on by a thread or two. The 28 year trick was another bonus. Thanks again!
I have had my Casio w740 (1219) since the 90s. But I learned of some new features from your video that I have never been aware of. Your presentation was excellent.
So much watch and functionality for so little cash! Ordered mine for 23$. I was tempted by the electro luminescent backlight too. Great review, thank you!
Thanks for a great review of one of my favourite watches! I really appreciate the tutorial format, and like the fact that all beeps and alarms and backlight are tested. Excellent reviewer!
Great Video! The whole process was pretty easy EXCEPT, I could not get the watch to reset. Utilized the method you demonstrated but just could not get the watch to reset, Still, I now know how to replace the battery- for all the good it will do since there is definitely the possibility that my watch no longer functions ,lol. In any case, thank you for a really fine presentation .
very interesting to see the electro luminescence still glowing after all these years. It shows how careful you are with your beloved watches. Casio says in it's user's guide that the illumination dies eventually. Would very much appreciate any tips from you to prolong the lifespan of the backlight. Excellent attention to details by the way. Thanks.🙌
The camera I use most of the time is a Sony PXW-X200 that I’ve had for about 6 years. It’s a broadcast-oriented camera that’s good for documentary-type work. It’s HD but now Sony sells a 4K version of that camera. I sometimes enlarge the image in the computer for extreme close-ups on watch details and it usually holds up well... although it would look even better if I were enlarging a 4K image. Right now it’s difficult to justify upgrading the hardware for full-blown 4K production and editing. When it comes to UA-cam I never know if folks are watching using a small screen in a phone or an average computer monitor or a big TV in their home theatre. I hope the sound and picture are acceptable in any kind of playback setup.
I get mixed results with Poly Watch. Often, it makes a huge difference for the better. With some other watches it doesn’t really do anything. On the case or bezel it’s hard to predict what it’ll do. Sometimes the case might have sort of a semi-gloss finish and Poly Watch might make it very glossy, so then you’d have to polish every little bit for a consistent look. I suppose I could try an experiment with a “beater” watch.
i find turtle wax ceramic or graphene 1 and done works extremely well on buffing out scratches and adding shine to old gshock and casio and timex watches. it also makes the watch water and dirt uv light repellent water beads off the watch and screen and when i am washing the car i throw a bunch of gshock watches in side the cleaning bucket with the turtle wax ceramic carwash soap to clean them. the black resin and clear and plastics just absorb what ever is in these waxes and make the colors seem deeper and more shiny black looks blacker.
I was going to ask if these older modules (1219??) have a trimmer screw, but on your close up shot it doesn't look like it? Although what is the circular plastic thing at the bottom with the off-set white dot? Thank you.
Update - it does have one, it's recessed on the battery edge at the 2 o'clock position just above the AC reset. Can be used to adjust accuracy of the watch. Very small turns though, like 5 degrees and see what it does.
I was wondering if there was a source on all casio models are listed since casio released their watch how many models there are for more than 40 years 🤔
Wish I watched this video before making an attempt. I didn’t know there was a clip for the battery so I did the 4 little screws and lift up the board with the battery. Which a little gold spring came out and now I don’t know where it goes 🫣. . If anyone knows, please let me know. I know where the silver spring is

I’m glad this was helpful. I actually lost a tiny spring inside one of my other watches while I was attempting to make a video about changing the battery. I had to search the wood floor on my hands and knees because I would never have posted that video to show the whole world how much I had failed. I DID find the spring and complete that video but I knew I’d have to be more careful in the future. If I had lost that little spring in carpet then it truly would have been impossible to find and I would have had to get a different one somehow. So, yes, I learned some lessons the hard way but avoided complete disasters.
@@GoodTimekeeper FYI - the battery I replaced was the original from the 90's. It was still powering up the watch. Date was correct and the time was only 4 minutes fast. Unbelievable! The watch was in a box on the shelf since 2012.

It’s been a great watch. These days I enjoy my atomic time watches but, back then, it was just about the most advanced gadget of a watch I ever found.
very bright the lighting even after the years new battery and these as leaving the factory beautiful casio

Hello!
I from São Paulo, Brazil and have a identical clock.
I very like your video!
I learned a Lot with you!
Thank you!
For me... This is one of the best watches made by Casio. Maybe the best one? Super!❤

I really like Casio Electro-Luminescence too, dw290 green light is my favorite .
A tip: you can watch series on kaldroStream. Been using it for watching loads of movies during the lockdown.
@Lucas Alexzander yea, been using KaldroStream for since november myself =)
@Lucas Alexzander Yup, I've been using kaldrostream for since december myself =)

Best to put some silicone greese on the rubber seal before replacing it to keep it supple and to give it the best chance at water resistance
Thanks you , I disassemble another Casio model for change the battery and I discovered alarmed a very small spring o the table!
Greg, can you tell us what camera you're using to record video with such good quality when zoomed in closeup on the watch?

just an idea for a video. test polly watch on scratches on the plastic case.
You'd find loads of videos testing that out.

Very good!
The display looks exactly like a dw290.

Heyy do you recall the model of your older one (without EL)?

I have no idea, to be honest. I have never heard of a trimmer screw on these Casios and I’ve never tried to find one.

This looks similar to the DW-290.
Yes is the same module and quite similar to g-shocks Dw-6800 and Dw-8300.
@@75thrax yes it's based around the same module.
How long does the battery lasts?
Casio says 2 years, assuming one use of the alarm and backlight per day.
👌
Oh no! You used a cheap chinesium battery! I only feed my Casios the best japanese Maxell's or Panasonics!
Put a new battery in,
