  • Fishing with River Dickhead, at local poophole creeks and spillways, continues.. I have been fishing this creek for 10+ years, so it's rare that I ever catch anything new, but... That's the good thing about creeks, rivers, and spillways... YOU JUST NEVER KNOW! (We still don't, COMMENT down below)

Yeah, irony that we discussed this prior to me watching this video and that there was also reference of eating gar also that we just discussed over on the IG's. You made an interesting point, something that might have to be tested one day but I'm not in the area to do so. Is Shortnose Gar better then Longnose Gar? Like I mentioned my experience with Longnose Gar wasn't good enough for me to duplicate at leas the way I prepared it. I've heard of some fish cake recipes and doing them in like crab boil that sound kind worth a try but we'll have to see about that one day but I digress. Is there a difference in the palatability of Shortface or Longface? You may already know. Aside from catching Florida Gar which are technically a variety of Shortnose Gar, I've never caught an actual Shortnose Gar. So maybe you guys can shed some light there or at least an idea to try?

Dude you seriously should grow your own night crawlers, I do. I grow them in an old cast iron bathtub with the drain hole plugged and a crappy plywood cover. I water them about every 3-7 days depending on the heat and feed them once a week. Usually bread, garden scraps, and old coffee grounds.
It’s seriously easy. And night crawlers are $3.24 a dozen here.
After a fishing trip, all “survivors” are dumped into my raised garden bed.
    It’s really a win/win....
Cheap and easy, just like I like my women.
    But don’t tell my wife...lol

Could your mystery fish have been a fallfish? A lot like chub but almost look like small red drum. I know you and dad say "largest in North America" a lot, but fallfish are the largest minnow species in North America (22"). I've personally caught one that was 18". At > than 10-12" they're very aggressive and fun to catch on light tackle.

Didn't see the back of the fish well, or if it had an idipose fin (small lobed fine that is found on salminoids like trout). Possibly looks like it could have been a trout perch.

you should come to Winnipeg, Manitoba. a 20 lb channel cat is on the smaller side here lol

20 lb might be pushing it a little bit. but a 30 inch (15 pounds roughly is like small to average here). my biggest one this year was a 43 inch, roughly 35 lb cat. but you can easily go out and catch 30 fish over 10 pounds in one night. So if cats are your thing, when covid is over definitely make the trip to winnipeg, then head to lockport. (20 mins north of winnipeg). I assure you, you wont be dissapointed.

Im pretty sure it was a bullhead minnow. But they normally only get up to 3 inches max. I actually have caught a few 4-5 inch ones in a creek near my house. But yeah my votes on bullhead minnow
