Hawk Crash

Just a neat video from our security camera I wanted to share...
We had a visitor this morning! Pretty sure this guy made a miscalculation while trying to catch a small bird. He came in fast and super low, I assume so the little birds wouldn't see him until it was too late, but screwed up and wanged a wing into our central air unit, then whacked into the fence behind it. He seemed to be fine and unharmed afterwards, just embarrassed. He sat thinking about his mistake for a minute before spotting a worm on the board I have laying in front of the gate to cover a muddy spot. After he ate the worm, (consolation prize?) he hopped up on the fence and looked around a little before flying off.

It's astonishing that they can see something that small from that far away.

That was great to have caught that on camera... maybe not so great for the hawk. lol... In the end he seemed to be unharmed with maybe no damage other than to his ego... Really glad for that. I guess the take away is "situational awareness." It seems sometimes we can all be too focused on "the prize" not paying attention to everything around us until it is too late. Thanks for sharing.
