I’ve heard it a ton of times on my mother’s driving playlist, and yeah, this is instantly memorable. The narrator is exasperated and weary, and yet her words don’t feel venomous so much as a sobering reminder to herself and to this man who wronged her that she has all the power now… and that’s not even mentioning that monster of a main riff. 9/10.
This is probably the most talented person I have ever seen. She did another video with a Canadian Hockey team. Her social skills are off the charts to pull that off as good as she did. She is extremely smart and talented. Colin Kripps is one hech of a guitarist.
I seen her on some late night TV show playing this song. I was just listening to her song Maria on XM Outlaw Country This song kind of reminds me of the song Down The River by Chris Knight.
I recently changed pickups in my Les Paul, and after playing it through my Fender Deluxe Reverb in the bridge position, the tone I was getting brought the great lead guitar riff from this one into my head. Which was a great thing. But now, I’m stunned by the fact that this was released in 2005, and is 16 years old. In those days, I discovered a lot of great music, but often didn’t go to the show. And, I didn’t always try to find ways to make my own noise when I could. Now, I realize that I don’t have forever. If I get the chance, I’m going to see Kathleen, I’m going to see a lot of other great artists, and I’m going to play when I can.
Also, this is an awesome song, and that tone is what I have in my head when I think about what a mostly clean electric guitar sound should be. Fender and a Gibson with Burstbuckers or PAF style humbuckers. Yes, I am indeed a guitar geek...
Just rediscovered this and am rediscovering more from her - I remember thinking, when it came out, this was the saviour of Rock at the time. And yes I thought the band sounded alot like Tom Petty's. Which I also love. Thought I heard some 12 string in there but not sure, gets kind of country in a great wat. Also love her voice (better than Tom's LOL!) And looking at her in the videos.
Think she has an idea of how charismatic she looks when she sings? Jeez. Even better to watch than to just listen. But not necessary. Anyway, when I was little in the early seventies, there was a family that had two or three older redhead sisters as daughters. I was 4. Maybe that has something to do with it. I think one of them was named Kathleen too...
I figured out something - the guitars on this must be using heavy compression, pedals. Colin! There''s no other way to get that Byrds sound on a six string. Probably a Dynacomp. I have one and it comes close. Man, that sound...reminds me of being a kid and hearing it on the AM radio for the first time, early 70s. Even though I didn't know anything then, I knew it was overdriven but not distorted, and never forgot it. Thank God I discovered guitar later.
In a nutshell, this is a freakin' amazing track. Heard it today (January, 2021) for my first time on CBC-3 on SiriusXM. Great music channel presenting great artists, like Ms. Edwards! (Hey, SXM, don't just relegate this channel and "The Verge" to "Canadian stations" - there is some killer rock and alternative music here that more of us Yanks deserve to hear!)
Me again...still no new music. Weird video. Still trying to get what she's saying with it. All of her videos are cool yet send a message. Just like her songs. Edit: now in August. Video reminds me a bit of Foo Fighters My Hero fire video mashed up with Verve Bittersweet Symphony video walking down the street.
Wtf? Why wasn't this a number one? What a great song.
This is one of her best. C'mon, people, show some love

I absolutely love her eye roll at the 3:01 mark.

I want to thank Bob Harris for introducing me to Kathleen Edwards music.

Kathleen.... you are overdue for an album. Its been 5 years. If you want a title for the next album, how about Where Are You?
It's coming. She's working on it
aaaate
I want high tone songs please
I want to know the story behind this one.
I want higher pitched please
Sometimes your next great song is a dream away.keep that scrap paper next to the bed...!!!!
It's the highest complement I can think of that this could be a Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers song.
Except that Kathleen is a million times better looking than any of the Heartbreakers 😝
Funny -- I discovered this song on Tom Petty Radio on SiriusXM
