Nobody, and I mean nobody, says hey guys let’s cover Bodhisattva and everyone says great idea. The song is a master class in groove and guitar pyrotechnics courtesy of Denny Dias and Skunk Baxter. And you guys nailed it. Right down to the “look out!” I bow to you. Well played sirs, 🎶👏👏👏👏
As a 65+-year old Steely Dan fan from back in the 70s, I gotta say that seeing this huge amount of talent and love for great music among your generation gives me hope for mankind! Fantastic job (and at a crazy tempo here)!!
In 1973 this was rock and roll 10 years ahead of its time. Got to see Skunk and Denny play this one live at the U. of Toledo in April 1974, their last tour with The Dan. You guys absolutely nailed the twin-lead harmonies at 2:54.
Wow, the guitar solo in this cover was perfect (especially Denny Dias' solo, the first one). I love when this song is played the way it was recorded with no filler/fluff in the solo's. Brilliant.
Excellent job. Very difficult stuff to play and you can still carry it off with grace. Kudos on the guitar work. I want to hear Keanu Reeves tackle the Larry Carlton solos on Kid Charlemagne and Do it Again.
💙 when I turned 15 my friend made me the best mixed cd, which included this amazing song (except the original by Steely Dan). He passed away a year later (5/5/2002). This is such a good rendition. Thanks for sharing. 💙
This was outstanding -absolutely perfect and if I close my eyes I can imagine that I’m listening to SD original- great guitar work by the leads and bass, and the drummer was amazing-fantastic cover!
There is just no light between the original guitar work of Baxter and Dias and this rendition. And as someone else said, that tempo was just murderous. Fantastic!! Meredith W.
not late. this version is in my rotation so I come here often. You dont hear bar bands do this song as its beyond the reach of anyone but top notch players. These guys measure up. must be a blast to be that good.
I saw Steely Dan play this live in Hollywood on their Can’t Buy A Thrill tour. I don’t even think Countdown to Ecstasy was out yet. Needless to say, it was a great way to hear it for the first time. I remember feeling like I might fall over backwards. Your version really reminded me of that night. Those four or six magical chords that take off where the 5/4 turnaround should be are hard to reproduce but I heard it done here exactly right. Nice. Thanks .
@@lesmatheson6001They were much better as a live outfit in the last five or six years before Walter's passing. Saw them live in Australia in 07 and 11, and in the US in 14. The first show was as you described, but the latter two you could tell they'd honed their stagecraft. They went from merely playing their songs on stage, to putting on a complete performance.
I was waiting to hear the ending to see how they handled it. DAMN FINE is how they handled it! Countdown to Ecstasy is the only album I bought twice. First one ended up fused to the shag carpet in my bedroom after our house caught fire...couldn't do without and bought another.
You GOTTA know what the heck you're doing to take on this song, live on stage! This was tight!
knowing how Donald did things... you better be tight
Facts!
The guitar work is great, but man, that drummer is just spot on. He drives these covers just perfectly.

agree.... bands dont cover this song coz its a choker. they made it look easy but
its a beast to get right.
My band plays SD songs. I would never play this song. It takes more talent and energy than I have. I bow to you Brooklyn Charmers!

JP, these young men are bringing the goods! They even do "Aja" which is ninja-level in my book. Fellow Fan of the Dan, Cheers! JP
Ya, have viewed many of this band’s videos and am always amazed and delighted!
Great to see a younger generation find, appreciate and perform this music. And their rendition is FANTASTIC.
as Tuco Salemanga would say ... " tight, tight, TIGHT ! "
A spot on rendition of a tragically difficult song to even attempt. kudos.
Yeah, good old Tuco. My hero!
Tremendous...guy on the Les Paul has that 1st solo nailed...brilliant playing....whole band fantastic.
Agree. Why would someone that skilled settle for a cover band playing in a garage?
Ya he killed it.
@@carty43 No matter how skilled, being original is a financial crap shoot. Cover bands work and get paid. It's all about that 'risk/reward' thing.
it's great to see a bunch of young guys playing great music like this, you guys are all top notch musicians. much respect
Not sure how I stumbled across this video but that bass tone is slammin'.
I am not afraid of dying anymore knowing there's my bohisattva to take me by the hand. Rock on Still going at 70
Maybe one of the best jazz rock songs ever written and these guys just nail it!!!!
Totally outstanding guys. No easy task considering the absolute masters that created it. Complete respect. Well done 👏👏👏
Brooklyn really does owe the charmer under me
LOOK OUT! The Charmers are on the road and when they make it to SF the music will play and we'll all dance by candlelight.
That was the best rendition of this song since the Dan itself. Awesome, guys.

"Here is the Magnificent one
The one and only one
Mr... Brookyn Charmers and whatever..."
Not many people will understand your reference, I do...!
GREAT job, guys! I'm happy to have discovered you.
Good to see kids today can appreciate classic quality crafted tunes
Unbelievable. Awesome. Stupid good. Wow. Good work dudes!
You are great! I saw Steely Dan at the Rainbow in London 1974 doing that song and I'm 67 and still a fan
There are Steely Dan tribute bands. Many are good. Then there are the Charmers. These guys are heads and shoulders above the rest.
Perfect song to show off your talent! Kudos! Great Cover of one of my favorite songs!
I could not stop my foot from tapping! Young and talented musicians and a rocking performance of a great classic! Love it!
I just don't think it gets any better than this!!! A masterclass in musicianship!!
Walter's Smiling from Above, Fagen has a Grin. Good Job Guys
Man, if these fellows were any deeper in the pocket, they’d be lint. That was -tight-. I can’t imagine a more bang on performance of this song.
I mean, just wow. Hope you're playing live next time I'm in Chicago.
Crispy 👍🏾👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿
Nice cover , very clean guitar work

Amazing! Perfect mix on this recording too. Definitely hope you guys can make it down to Austin.
SFF180 outstanding performance but if I had to comment on the mix....Too much hi hat?
Wow! SD is my fav band and this is the best call cover band I have ever seen, and I am picky!

BOMB! Wished they would have toured more. Posted by Chillie aka Cool Pop - 5/2023

Wholly Shit!!!! Thanks guys nailed it!!! At age 62 Steely Dan was go to!!
Oh by the way...you don;t need to go big and these lads prove it!!!
Damn....I immediately hear "Do it again" as the next track to follow.
I'm late here, but never too late for an applause!
👏👏

Really REALLY EXCELLENT!!! I can’t imagine why anyone would thumb this down!
Wow, two lead guitarists taking turns doing the fancy work!
Don't see that too much. And they f-wording nailed it!

Very good guys and I've listened to a zillion versions of it..bass line in particular excellent thank you!!
Holy cow. I have goosebumps.
Excellent
I saw Steely Dan live in 2001. I saw the Brooklyn Charmers live in 2019. The latter was a better show.
Les Matheson makes sense Walter was gone the Dan spirit. Should have seen them in the 70’s
@@markheller197 He was there in the 2001 show. It was still a pretty sterile experience.

Holy crap! Nice work, gents. Been a huge Dan Fan since 1973 (72???) and you guys nailed this. Bravo.
Unbelievable cover. I wouldn’t have thought it possible. Fantastic job.
J**us H. Ch***t !!! Can't believe that this is a cover! You guys are crazy talented, so friggin' good!!!

OUTSTANDING!!!!! If I hadnt seen the video I would have sworn that this was Steeky Dan live. Klick ass cover at its best!! 👍🤪
Guitars did a great job, but the bass walk at the end kicked ass. Keys and drums tight too. Great job😎
That was spot on! Thought I was really listening to Steely Dan! Great job!

Played to the T. Well done !!!!!
Great performance! What a treat for this music to carry on forward to newer generations!
Very Very Good. Not the easiest of the Dan songs to play. These guys did a fantastic job. LOVE IT!!!
You guy's killed it.
Outstanding , guys!

Great playing!
Really fine guitar work
Wow. Nice job! The guitar playing is exceptional. Tough song to cover, but you really nailed it big time!
Really a great job! As a side note, I'm guessing the cameraman isn't a guitar player...
He is not a cameraman either! He has no common sense.
...nailed it!!
Well done gentlemen. Right on the money.
