I always use a non-contact tester on the lead as a first step, been through that same frustrating process a few times now. Hope you have a grand long weekend.

It's called a growler. It's for testing armatures. It is an old piece of kit.
How would you charge for a job like that? Some time went into that
The extra time taken was my problem, not the customers. The bill for this repair was around 25 euro.
