How to Install a Trailer Hitch on your Car

- When I was younger, before I was into cars, I was an avid mountain biker. However, my passion for cars took over my passion for bikes as soon as I got my first car, and I haven’t looked back. I have to blame my older brother for getting me back into biking because he gave me the itch to get back on 2 wheels. With the itch to go riding whenever possible, I had no way to transport my bike in any of my vehicles since they’re all 2 doors. I felt bad for always taking my mom’s sedan, and even that was difficult to do.
With this new trailer hitch, I figured I can serve me multiple purposes. Since it has a 1-1/4” receiver, I fit any attachment to it, whether it be a bike rack, a small trailer, a cargo box, a basket, or anything else. I found this install to be pretty straightforward and does not require many tools.
The hardest part that I foresee someone having is removing / moving their exhaust system to give them access to the frame rails. Since every car is different, you will have to do a bit of research, but if it is the same design as the one in this video, the install is the same. I hope this helps!!

I'm very envious, it's been over 30 years since I could contort myself under a car like you did. You said two door coupe's aren't practical, but they're the best looking cars on the road. You should mention not to go crazy on the towing because it heats up the transmission fuild and if the cooling is not appropriate there could be damage to the transmission
I have a ford focus how do u find out maximum that can be towed? I want to tow stuff such as sweet potatoes for when I deer hunt. Also refrigerators n etc.
@@emmanuelwilliamson5503 most cars can comfortably tow 1,000 lbs I wouldn’t go over that for safety you should find it in your manual

Did you have to cut the heat shield with tin snips to accommodate the hitch blocking area where heat shield would otherwise occupy if hitch wasn't blocking it? I have seen other videos where they had to cut an area off heat shield. I have a 2017 model. Maybe it only applies to this gen's models? Thanks.

Hopefully you cn help--my Curt hitch rubs and makes noise under my car although it is very sure. Any suggestions? I do not have anything except the hitc on the car. should there be rubber busihing in between both metals? Thank you

Nice bike dude! I need to install a hitch on my car. I use a Saris trunk rack but I’m always paranoid because it moves a lot and I keep looking at my rear view hoping my hard tail doesn’t fly off lol

It has a capacity of 200 lbs tongue weight, and 1000 towing. Technically I think it could do more towing, but that's what the rating is at least.

You would need to find a trailer hitch specific to your vehicle, but the install is essentially the same 👍

I'm surprised that you didn't get a roof rack if you want more space, unless you're going to get a tiny trailer. My gf just got that same rack on FB market for $75, fantastic deal for that rack.
That's not a bad price at all ahah good for her! I have space in my car and trunk for plenty of items, just not large items. I've managed to put over 10 wheels in my accord at once, a tent, and other big things, but nothing as large as my bike.

i used throw my bike in the back of my accord bungied the trunk down and it was fine....mountain bike fit fine and stayed in
I tried fitting my bike in my accord, but there was zero chance it was fitting. The upper frame support in the rear of the trunk was too low.
do you need to make some paperwork? if you add trailer onto the car in EU, it has to be certified and written into the vehicle registration card
In North America, the laws are so chilled. To my knowledge, you need nothing. You don't even need a different licence to tow, UNTIL your gross weight is over 10,000 lbs, which is insane.
Was that car winter driven I see rust on the stamped unit body frame rails. Canada's winters are hard on vehicles. They load the roads with salt.
Yes it was. It was winter driven since 2008. I try to wash it and prevent it from getting worse, but Canada is just too hard on vehicle's that have steel frames.

Another option is to buy a roof mount with suction cups, specially designed for bikes. They work great

Now you can make a small utility trailer to carry stuff or make a utility trailer with a bike rack instead of buying a bike rack. But this also saves your car trunk from loading big stuff in the car trunk and scratching the paint work on the car. Great.
Another video to make is making a small light weight utility trailer for small cars that have a towing capacity of 1,000 lbs.
Perhaps with a torflex axle requires no springs and 13 inch wheels. Small cars never have a good size trunk. I know I'm driving a 2009 Chevrolet Aveo5 love the car for gas mileage. But lacks space. Solution: small light weight trailer.

Why’d you stop the k24 build videos
Machine shop issues. I recorded a couple videos while I was having those issues, but I have the engine back and the engine assembly videos are to come! 💪
This isn't trailer hitch related but its to do with my 04 TSX with nav. I got a aftermarket radio with bluetooth installed it with the wire kit and it works great until i turn on the headlights then it goes into searching mode on the radio no sound until i turn of the headlights then it comes back on like nothing happened. Any ideas on what it is.
Do they share the same power wire?

I don't think that snow is responsible for rust and neither is rain and water generally,but salt and rock chips is what cause rust
