    I bought one about 14 years ago. It has won for me every clay comp I've entered. About 5 per year... She's now retired. Still love taking her out now and then. Magnificent gun.

    I have my Beretta SP since almost 20 years. I jumped over barbwire, had it in -15degree Celsius and whatever else. I also submerged it once accidentally. It just always works. No cracks nothing. It just looks used....I love it.

    I've wanted one of these 686's for the last 3 years and in the last few months I've watched countless 686 videos on youtube including this one. Well today I finally went out and bought one and man I am so glad I did, 20 ga 28" barrels and I can't wait to get it out and use it soon!!!

    Bought one second hand years ago for half the price of new. Have shot it weekly for over five years in a shotgun league. Never let me down, I have definately improved my game with it. I knew that I could rebuild it my self if it showed wear. I clean and lube it and have had no problems. I would replace it with the same if I were to loose it.

    Thank you 👍. I have 686 Silver Perdiz 12 gauge, which I think is predecessor to 686 Silver Pigeon??
    I bought it new maybe 25 - 30 years ago if, memory serves.
    I upgraded the wood on it later … looks sweet & handles nicely.

    I shoot a lot of registered trap with my 686 and won't shoot anything else now. I have a Browning BT99 that I thought to replace the Beretta with for trap deciding to use the Beretta for Clay's and skeet. After a season with the BT99 I picked up the 686 again and never looked back The difference in feel and pointabilty was like going from driving an old pickup truck and a modern sports car. I'm left handed and my sporting 686 has a left hand cast stock that fits me perfectly. I find the look to be just right, too with a nice amount of engraving that isn't overdone or gaudy. I also love the oil finish wood stock that just gets better over time as opposed to the high gloss urethane finish on so many other brands.

    After 2 years of ownership and over 15k shells fired my SP1 sporting is still tight and has been trouble free. I keep thinking about upgrading but I always decide to just keep shooting it. In fact I'm thinking before this year is out I will have Briley make me a set of sub guage tubes for it. My only complaint is I wish it had a higher grade of wood. Fit, function, and reliability it has in spades. Another fellow on my skeet squad has over 30k rounds on his and he's only had to replace the ejector springs. Another gent I shoot sporting clays with claims his is pushing 50k trouble free. 686 action just works!

    I miss my SP1 Sporting. Sold it because need the money. Afterwards I got a TriStar TT-15 Sporting. I have absolutely no complains. It works, tight lock up and it patterns well. No issues at all. However that be my beat around shotgun and I just got a Browning Citori 725 30”. I was thinking about the SP1 again but I wanted try something different.

    Just bought one thanks to your videos. Great videos and they really helped me learn a lot and also to help me choose an over/under shotgun. I have been hunting in the states for 40 years but never with an O/U. I have decided to give trap and sporting clays a go so I bought the Beretta for use in hunting and also clays. I got the Silver Pigeon 1 but am already thinking that I should have got the Silver Pigeon 3. I guess I should learn how to shoot clays before I worry about such things. Thanks for your videos and all of your help and information, cheers

    Honestly, if I was marketing for Beretta I would take the negatives that were said in this review and print them on a full page advert in every magazine or website that had anything to do with a shotgun.
    It says a lot when the worst that can be said is that it lacks soul.
    I mean fair play, I get it. A 1911 has soul. If I’m buying a pistol to put in the collection then, yep, a Colt 1911 please!
    Of course, the other side of the argument is that, if it ever actually came down to it, I’d want a Glock in my hand… but I get it.
    BTW: somebody saying that there’s a social stigma attached to a Beretta over under because “it’s common” may very well be the most English thing ever said.
    Nah, I’m only joking! That was a fantastic review. Seriously appreciated!

    ... before the Beretta "680" Series ... they made the Model BL-4 ... nice O/U ... most 20 ga's where 6 - 6 1/2 lbs ... but I have handled one that was 5 3/4 lbs, fixed chokes but it will take a 20ga/3" shell. A very quick, light, hard hitting "field" shotgun ... (you have to learn to get your cheek down and touching the stock vs a "sporting Shotgun" )
    Have you ever handled/shot a Ruger Model Red Label ???

    Hey John, my name is Luke I'm from Australia and Im a huge fan of the show. I own multiple rifles and Im interested in getting into clay target shooting. I was wondering if you could give me some advice, I've managed to shorten my list down to these 3 guns for my first shotgun and was wondering which you'd recommend most. Im looking at the Beretta Silver Pigeon I, Miroku Mk10 Sporter and the Miroku Mk11 Sporter. Im looking for something which is durable and well built, has some nice engraving and a good piece of wood and is a good shooter and also good value for money. Out of the 3 shotguns I've listed which would you recommend most ? I look foward to hearing back from John

    • @tgsoutdoors
      @tgsoutdoors  6 років тому

      Hi Luke, this is a difficult one, as we dont have the MK10 or MK11 here in the UK. They appear to be the same action as the rest of the Miroku range, so they would be solid. I would always lean towards the Miroku stable, although looking at what guns you have available to you in the range, i'm not sure if i would go for the same choices as yourself

    • @luketomazic1018
      @luketomazic1018 6 років тому

      Hi John, thanks for you reply. So you would favor Miroku over Beretta given my choices and what would you choose from their range based on what I have available in Australia. I quite like the Mk10 because it has a grade 3 walnut stock, includes 3 interchangeable adjustable triggers and also comes with 7 interchangeable hi viz sights. My local gun store has said they can do it for $1870 compared to $2200 for the Beretta Silver Pigeon I.

    • @thelongslowgoodbye

    • @tgsoutdoors
      @tgsoutdoors  5 років тому

      The list of fairly long and fairly confusing as some model names have remained for years, the gun changing rather a lot. The silver pigeon one has changed a huge amount in its 7 year life span for example.
      The bottom line is that all of the actions are good so it’s personal preference as too which wood, barrels and engraving you like and whether the mixture makes for a gun that handles well

    How nervous should I be while tightening the stock on my 687? I use the T-handle driver holding it with the tips of my of my fingers and tighten it quite tight without grunting or pulling it in close to my body. If the stock cracks I'm pretty sure that I will cry like a little girl which will be embarrassing for all concerned. I think there is a very small gap between the tang and the wood on one side when assembled. I doubt anyone who isn't as worried as me would notice. Should I get a torque wrench or just relax and go shooting?

    • @ttdog007
      @ttdog007 5 років тому

      When tightening any stock bolt, a little force is good, but don't put too much torque on it. As long as it isn't wobbly and keeps tight while shooting it's good. Take the gun to a range first to test it and bring a tool to tighten it if it isn't. I tighten just till before I'd have to muscle it to twist any further.

    I know in England semi auto shotguns and pump shotguns are looked down on but what is the general consensus on single shot shotguns are they seen in the same light as a semi auto better or worse and are they common

    "Bottom sears means less travel for trigger" sounds incorrect. Links connect the trigger to top sears and there is no flexing or "take up" between the links and trigger or top sears in order to create extra travel.

    Is there much difference between the 682 Gold E and 686 Silver Pigeon to justify the extra cost?

    Great video. You could remove the price tag, though.

    Hi there, I recently purchased a 687 silver pigeon ii 20 bore. Haven’t found much information about them on internet. Are the rare ?
    Also can I shoot steel and all # field loads?
    Cheers from Canada

    My new sp1 sporter came from the factory with some white stuff on the stock and fore end. What do recommend using to clean the wood?

    Seen one of these in a store today with matte black barrels. Is this a special model or possibly after market fit?
