Famous British pilot called Douglas Bader in WW2 - he lost his legs after getting shot down but learnt to fly again using prosthetics. To answer George's question about grace, from someone who grew up in a Catholic household: there are certain traditional / historical prayers for saying grace, such as the one that starts "Bless us Oh Lord, and these thy gifts which we are about to receive" etc. etc. But you can also just say a short improv prayer like "Dear God, thank you for this food and keep those whom we love safe" or whatever.
“God is great God is good Let us thank him for our food By his hands We are fed Thank you for our daily bread Amen” Said before every dinner/ supper (for some people every meal). God loves it

I heard a rumor that the ratings department had a very strict rule about the pronunciation of Greg’s last name and they had to make sure it was clear they were saying “Focker”
And when they were getting ready to release the sequel, they would only allow the title to be “Meet the Fockers” if the studio could find a family with the last name Focker in the country. Given that it was named that, they must have succeeded.

Best meet parent story I heard. A friend of mine was US army green berets. His daughter took a boy home for holidays. And he woke up the poor boy at 4am, "Let's go for morning training, son!" Then proceeded to push the boy to a 10 mile run, 100 pushups, 100 situps, 100 pullups, all in freezing temperature. When the kid was gasping for air, and he didn't even break a sweat, said "well, I guess you are not gonna cut it. Son!'.
Watching this for the first time was such a surreal experience: my dad physically looks like a Bob De Niro lookalike, was in the military (and we always suspected had a hand in intelligence) and was typically overbearing and unaware of being so. Soooooo freaky!!! And he's crazy obsessive about his pets too (but will deny it to his death) 😅

22:20 I finally got an answer to my question (whether George was your name given at birth). I wonder what your name is and how it is pronounced. Is it difficult because we don’t use the sounds in English and/ or could you spell it in such a way that an English speaker could “sound it out”? Did you choose George or did your parents decide? Edit: for example, Xi’An is close to how you would pronounce my name in English
He said he was born in China and moved to Canada when he was in HS or something. It’s safe to assume his given name was not George lol. I’m Korean American and a lot of times when East asians immigrate to an English speaking country, we’re given a list of standard Anglo names to choose from and we just go with the simplest ones to pronounce tbh. I chose John for that reason

Gaylord Perry (September 15, 1938 - December 1, 2022) was an American right-handed pitcher in Major League Baseball (MLB) who played for eight teams from 1962 to 1983, becoming one of the most durable and successful pitchers in history. A five-time All-Star, Perry was the first pitcher to win the Cy Young Award in both leagues.
The sequel is one of those films that surpasses the original. It was so outrageous and one of my favorite experiences in a theater. Also, this lay the foundation for me enjoy super awkward comedy like the Office. Would've watched that show sooner if I would've known that was the type of humor it played with ahaha
You’ll probably really enjoy a lot of British tv shows then, they always lean heavy on the awkwardness. Some of my favourites include The Inbetweeners, The IT Crowd and Peep Show. I enjoy Meet the Fockers as well, but I think the first is still a far better film. 👍
I did that same thing to someone playing volleyball in high school. I spiked it hard into the face of some poor kid with a bad case of cystic acne. It popped all of the zits on one side of his face. A river of blood and pus poured down his face, onto his shirt. I felt really bad for him. That was pretty traumatic. 😬
Meeting the parents was interesting in my household growing up. My oldest sister was the first to invite a boy over. Our father, who was in law enforcement, answered the door when he arrived. And as he stepped into the house, my father told him, "Assume the position." Thinking he was playing along, the boy immediately faced the nearest wall and put his hands on the wall, as if he was being arrested and about to be frisked. It was at that point my father leaned in and said softly in his ear, "I can't tell you how disappointed I am that you knew what it meant to 'assume the position.' It's almost as if you had done it before." He then turned and walked over to his recliner, where he sat down and picked up his newspaper. I don't know how many minutes the boy remained in the position. But I still remember the look on his face. I also remember that none of my other sisters brought boys by the house after that.
Thank you guys, I'm having a really bad day, but it's always nice watching your videos knowing that I'll always be in a good mood afterwards :) continue being your awesome selves!
26:56 when you see Meet the Fockers you’ll understand. 30:06 the airport probably had his luggage on a table to look through it since he was protective of it.
Jesus Christ, don't clam-jam your daughters. It's rough enough being a teenager. Let 'em have some hormonal fumbling and maybe even an orgasm or two. It's actually kinda creepy how invested some dads are in keeping their daughters (always specifically daughters) pure and virginal.
Ben Stiller was great in another classic from 2007, The Heartbreak Kid. It's a Farrelly Brothers (Me, Myself and Irene, There's Something About Mary, etc.,) so you know what you're in for.
Two-time Academy Award-winning writer Alexander Payne (Sideways, The Descendants, The Holdovers) did final rewrites on this script, although he's uncredited.
I dated a few girls in high school who's dads tried going out of their way to make me feel uncomfortable by cleaning their guns when I arrived. I've also had dads pretend to get all to be overly angry, make jokes at my expense, etc. Each time, I just immediately called them out on it. They tried to dismiss and minimize it. I never broke up or stopped dating cause of their dads, but I did refuse to be around a couple of dads.

1:00 I grew up in a strict religious household and my dad was insane when it came to me dating boys and interrogated my first bf so scarily then didn’t even let me go on the date which was to my job at a movie theatre. Since then I just kept everyone I’ve dated a secret from my parents #trauma 😂
I went to a Catholic school and we had to say grace at the end of the last lesson before lunch. Pretty sure it goes something along the lines of “For what we are about to receive, may the lord make us truly thankful”

I have been lucky in the sense that all my girlfriends since high school (4 serious ones), the parents especially the mom has been very sweet and friendly, I did how ever get the threatening talk on the first date of one, but after getting to know him I understood that was just his humor. but I didnt tempt that 🤣🤣
Since you mentioned about poster name alignment. Apparently it comes from early-ish years of cinema, as a compromise for "top billing" one actor whould get their name top left, so as to be read first. And the other thier face most to the left so it is seen first. This patten is used with the addition of top to bottom for multiple fetured actors. So top left to bottom right, with bottom rights name at the top left... Yeah... 😅
In my mid-20's, working in constriuction and renovation, mostly in Manhattan. I met a nice girl at a party in Hoboken New Jersey..we set up a dinner date. She picked me up in her Mercedes and we drove miles down I-95 to an Italian restaraunt she'd chosen. I asked her what she 'did' and she said she was just 'helping out' with her parents' business while she decided what career she wanted. She went on to say that her uncle, her brother and her cousins also worked at the business, which was...."concrete, and waste disposal". I remarked that I didn't yet know her last name. "Bonanno" she said. I instantly made the connection between our general location, her "family business" and her last name. It was a pleasant date, she was nice and fun, but when she suggested a 2nd date, I demurred. Bonanno is the name of one of 'The Five Famiies" of New York...i.e. Mafia. I did not fancy meeting her parents.

It's definitely a name I've heard before, it's just not that common.
Back then gay didn’t mean what it means today. I imagine that name gets harder to find over time.
The sequel is one of those films that surpasses the original. It was so outrageous and one of my favorite experiences in a theater.
Also, this lay the foundation for me enjoy super awkward comedy like the Office. Would've watched that show sooner if I would've known that was the type of humor it played with ahaha
no, all you the sequel surpasses the original types are just wrong
@@longfootbuddy agree to disagree.
Such a classic, I had the nick name Focker for a while. at the time this came out I looked a lot like Ben Stiller did at this time in his life.
The thumbnails are always great, but I really love this one, especially Simone’s De Niro face:)
If you guys want to see Robert De Niro in some VERY funny movies, I would recommend 'Analyze This' and 'Analyze That's. Both are hilarious!!!
The next movie: Greg’s parents are wild yet very loving.
This is the first time I noticed how much her extended family wears beige and turtlenecks, or beige turtlenecks.
The lady at the airport boarding gate is the best character.
I had a friend in high school who's dad would clean his shotgun while meeting his daughter's dates.
A dad I can get along with, I plan to do the same
It’s such a shock to me that people actually do that. I think if any of my family had done that to my dates, I would have laughed in their face 🤣
I would have asked why he hates his daughter. Clearly he doesn't love or respect her.
I just fell in love with Simone after her Owen Wilson "wow" impression.
One of the great comedies of all time!
Huh. The attendant at the airport at the end who stops him from boarding played Halfreck the Vengeance Demon in Buffy the Vampire Slayer
i love seeing the mom in things. She was in one of my top 20 films "hearts beat loud" so fantastic
Best intro so far, because you know a Bear actually pooped in her yard. 😂
The mom, Blythe Danner, star of _Westworld,_ is Gwyneth Paltrow's mom.
*PLEASE watch the sequels!*
Meet the Fockers( the sequel) is an absolute Must!!
Hope you watch the next two films too.
I really hope y'all do the second one. For some reason, I've always preferred the second one the most. Stellar cast and screenwriting.
Definitely watch the whole franchise. 👍👍👍👍
You both make me want to rewatch these movies. Love your channel!
I hope you'll continue the series of them. These are great fun movies.
Love you two! I just watched this again for the 50th time over the weekend lol. But can’t wait to watch your reaction! Keep up the great content guys 😎👍
Yall should do the second one, “Meet the Fockers” it’s hilarious 😂❤🙏🏼 Greg’s parents are definitely worth meeting lol
Simone: I never check bags
Me: spiderman pointing at each other meme
Sometimes I like to do self-love while looking at my self-reflection
"Self-love is good, but self-reflection is better." Is that an old Chinese adage? It is on point, but I've never heard it before.
There was a Christian Rap band back in the 90’s named DC Talk. They had a song Day by Day. The awkward dinner prayer? Yeah, those were actually song lyrics.
Please please do the 2nd film!!
Watch the sequel. Dustin Hoffman and Barbra Streisand = genius casting.
Once dated a girl thats father was a youth minister. I wasnt allowed at her house unless he was home. And the only places we were allowed to be were on the couch or front porch.
"A bear pooped in my yard," Considering you guys are Canadian. That must happen sometimes.
Love this movie! My grandpa passed away a year or so before this movie came and Robert DeNiro characteristic as the dad is exactly like my grandpa. You fuck with my family ill mess you up attitude but super cool person overall lol
Perfect Robert De Niro face in that thumbnail.
To quote SNL: "We're gonna meet the parents! We're gonna meet!"
Tom McCarthy, who plays Bob, wrote and directed the Oscar-winning movie Spotlight. Highly recommend watching on the channel.
You can always continue the awkwardness with the two sequels. 'Meet the Fockers' and 'Little Fockers'.
My favorite one out of the trilogy is Meet the Fockers. Can’t wait for that reaction
Are you Italian heritage? I feel that's how it works in the films/tv shows.
This is definitely a classic! So many quotable lines that I still use to this day lol..
The reason jim carrey didnt play greg is simply because when he saw ben stiller perform the role he just felt he was better fit
28:17 My company recently used this scene as an example of how not to deal with customers. 😁
THAT SMELL, BOB, IS OUR SHIT!
You gotta watch „Stardust“. You will see an unique on screen DeNiro
