The only sane person that has commented on the JJ McCarthy situation so far. This is exactly how the situation will play out for the Vikings. I know all these qb needy teams will continue to push the narrative that JJ might be on the table but the Vikings will not budge, the two many qbs problem is the best problem to have.
I think they will be fine. They need a complete rebuild though and need to hit on every pick basically. Very hard to do. First they need a stellar coach. Next build the OLine and Dline before everything else. Focus on that. These players like wide recievers and running backs they can get anywhere. Nothing works without those lines. Grab tight ends and DBs next. This is year 1. Second year get your QB and get the WR and RB there. Grab free agents to fill out spots. It won't be easy but it's the NFL.
hmmm, i dont think so. malik nabers is soooo worthy. only caleb, jaden and drake were 1st round consensus. malik nabers and brock bowers were the right choices. value and organization pillars picks.
As a vikings fan, i trust KOC to make the decision. There may not be a wrong answer. The main question i have is: Can JJ be a guy that can make 35-40 throws a game? Everything you hear out of Minnesota - it sounds like he can be that guy
100%. It's the main reason I think ultimately JJ is gonna be the guy. KOC had Mullens throwing for 400 yards and had Josh Dobbs playing well enough to get a Progressive commercial. Kwesi didn't win a game of chicken with Kirk and his agent just to turn around and panic-pay Darnold $55 million a year. Franchise Darnold and if he is just as good next year, then maybe you roll with him. If you decide to move on, you got a top ten caliber dude waiting in the wings for KOC to unleash. They're gonna nail this.
@@user-qr7ee2cp4y depends what the contract for Sam looks like, its not impossible to put a good roster around a high salary qb look at the Lions after paying Goff
JJ just didn’t resemble that guy at all at Michigan. Part of that is scheme, obviously, but if he was a really good drop back passer I think Harbaugh would have used him more as such. Vikings are in a tough (but enviable) spot.
@westrueblood8178 while i understand your point - just because he didnt do it in the past, doesnt mean he cant in the future. I would assume if KOC thinks that thrn they would move on from him
@user-qr7ee2cp4y. nice bot name. Mahomes won the last 2 Super Bowls with a huge salary. Matt Stafford isn’t a cheap QB and the Rams paid over $25 million for Goff that season.
Over the years lots...repeat LOTS OF...of college QBs have been touted as the next great pro. The list of fails is longer than the list of succeeds. What makes all the talking heads suddenly think that McCarthy is the next success.
exactly. He had mediocre stats in college. he is good at handing off. he is a game manager. I didn’t see him doing much at Michigan. Nothing bad about JJ, but nothing special.
Because one of the best coaches and quarterback developers in the league has raved about him, and he was pushing a borderline MVP candidate to start as a 21 year old prior to injury
@p.o.4339 every beat reporter was reporting on his progress and how it was possible he was going to outplay Sam for the starting role in the preseason. It's a good spot to be in, with two guys who will get maximized by one of the best coaches in the game.
Raiders GM Tom Telesco: Offer your 1st Rounder and A Fourth in 2025 for QB JJ McCarthy's rights. Sam Darnold earned the starter's job and a long-term deal for the Vikings. Let Scott and Norv Turner prepare JJ as the starter, with a TE Bowers, this is solid. Telesco's chance to acquire talent is here, as I would also draft QB Jaxson Dart in the later rounds to push with McCarthy.
@@BM-si2ei JJ is on IR and can't practice or do anything really with the team. He's sitting at home watching plays using a special VR headset. He's getting mental reps and little else.
They are not going to trade JJ unless they have Sam on a long term deal. The cap hit would be lower if they sign him to a long term deal. The hype of the generational QB talent in the 2021 draft was insane. I think there is some talent deep in the draft that wouldn’t require a trade for JJ even for the QB needy teams.
You can’t walk away from a 14-2 quarterback. Sam walking away from the apex of his career for $15m difference in guaranteed money would be foolish. That would be a total lose-lose situation.
Shit is watched all the Michigan games that I could because Harbs is an awesome coach. Sorry but JJ isn't pro material coming out of college. He may be now but he isn't a starter unless he learned a lot.

The Vikings should trade J.J. McCarthy. They would be crazy not to. As a first round pick with no major negatives other than his injury, he should bring at the very least a 2nd and a 3rd rounder. Possibly a first round pick from a team that needed a QB and didn't see one they liked on the board. Sam Darnold has proved that he is a top 5 QB. The only way Minnesota lets Darnold go is if he demands too much money which I don't think he will do.
People who say things like this - simply don't know or understand football. Sam Darnold is a superior talent to Keenum. He has top 5 arm talent, above average athleticism, he's tough and he's Clutch and 27 yo. There's a reason that he was drafted #3 overall and was the 2nd QB chosen in his class, ahead of both Lamar and Josh Allen. Case Keenum was an Undrafted Free Agent. So, just Stop.
@ehansbrough593 didn't say it was right or wrong. Just stating what happened. Plenty of players get picked over each other that means nothing in terms of their actual success
The rookie qb contract argument doesn’t hold up when you look into it. The only team it worked for was Seattle because they had the best defense of the last 20 years. Mahomes won one but he also won back to back after his enormous contract.
Yes it does it just doesn’t guarantee success because you still need good coaching and gm to adequately evaluate talent to allocate the excess in funds you have in a rookie quarterback instead of paying one. It’s not simply jj McCarthy v San darnold it’s Sam darnold v jj McCarthy, a safety, a starting center, and a pro bowl defensive tackle
We wld be stupid to trade JJ. he was having a damn good preseason until the injury. Sam Arnold is a good story good QB but the true Sam shows, just look at how he performed against DT.

If the Vikings were open to a trade, McCarthy would be a great fit for the Titans. They have a young, promising offensive-minded HFC. Their org is a much better landing spot than the NY Teams or the Raiders.
The Vikings have a guy now. There's no evidence with Darnold in a Vikings uniform that proves otherwise. Tampa has their guy too with Baker. Is McCarthy's ceiling noticeably higher than Darnold's play right now? I don't think there's enough evidence to suggest this today. What if the Chargers could send Herbert to the Giants and the Vikings could send McCarthy to Los Angeles (win lots of big draft picks moving of course)?
