That imperial march section is what mixing tournaments should be about and is what's missing a lot these days. Hyping the crowd with this kind of musical creativity is a lost art, and not enough DJs today play to the crowd, they sacrifice musicality for technical chops.
I went to the Japanese Technics final and it was great technically, but most of it was the sort of thing that only people who are crazy into turntablism could understand, not at all fun for the average spectator.
I love turntablism, what got me into DJing and music in general, on the flip side my GF can't stand beat juggling and repetitive cuts, so I can see where others wouldn't enjoy it.
@@lunardelusions2657 Repetition is death. Always evolve. 🤟🖖
It was all out of time
@@rosscop.coltrane2747 gimme creativity like this over perfect timing with no soul any day, most people in that crowd aren't turntableists, they just wanna be entertained. Its shit like this that gets views and people interested in the genre, it's never the best at the technical stuff that capture the imagination of the people.

this is fucking incredible to watch. At that split second even the man he was against knew he had won. You don't see scratching like this anymore. Perfection.

One of the most iconic moments in scratch DJ history
Out of the dozens of times I've watched this, I never noticed the "always two there are, a master and an apprentice" soundbyte..nice foreshadowing!
ha, i just noticed that now and your comment too!
Best part about this sound byte, is that he points to himself as the master and to his opponent as the apprentice! Genius!
I never noticed the djs til I read your comment!
Never noticed either. At 0:40.
How'd you miss Yoda?!!
Now THATS using the force......

Reposted.
Dark side force!
That's just right Audio Technica.
That first track is Disturbance in the Force by Phoenix Orion produced by DJ Hive. It covers Star Wars Episodes 1-3. He also released another track called Jedi Mastery on his debut album that covers episodes 4-6.
💥💥💥💥💥
Yes, that was a great album.
Need to check that out, thank you
Where can I find more of this stuff
And the music back then SO GOOD. Everyone was just enjoying the music and having a good time. Life was better then.
This was the EVO moment #37 of scratch battles for me.
LOL I love Street Fighter 3 I'm sure only a few people knew what you were talking about
Looool Nice
LMFAO I couldn't agree more personally
When something niche crosses over into wider popular culture.
OMG hahahahaha
This was a great moment to witness live... i'm the host in the video clip, a.k.a the voice saying "30 seconds" and "TIME!"... Shout out to the homie Skratch Bastid!
you were great in 8 mile too
Wish I could have been there...
Kevin Beacham who was the fatt kid?
then why is the 30 seconds thing coming from the track and does the voice of the guy saying TIME sound so much different... keep your bs to your self ;)
Kevin Beachams nether regions
I remember hear this when it came out and was blown away. Had it as an MP3, took up 40Mb of my 128 Mb mp3 player because Limewire only had the "high quality" version.
For all of my life from the moment I first saw this to the very last breath I take, my favorite moment is when he looks over at him like "I'm about to end your whole career." before playing the Imperial March. 1:44
For those who want to find the songs from his set:
First song: Phoenix Orion - A Disturbance In The Force
Second song: Buck 65 - The Centaur
Holy shit buck 65
Sample of Myka 9 - Can You Find The Level Of Difficulty In This - is the song between Phoenix Orion and Buck 65 ( the 30 seconds to go part)
You da maaaaaan !!
Looking for this 5 years ago. XD thank you, mate.
🔥🔥🔥
That was crazy. His opponent was loving it. Respect to that guy too
Just checked and this is my 3rd comment on this track
I've been listening to hip hop and have been in love with scratching since 1986 I am now 48 and I haven't been so in awe of anything in this genre, this is just pure quality and genius. To make the judges react and also the opponent like this just shows how amazing this truly is. I have followed him for years and he is my 3rd fav DJ, no 1 terminator X, no 2 Erik B and the man himself in 3rd. Man it just shows that hip hop brings all people together and overrides any race issues, just a passion for the different arts that hip hop brings to the table like graffiti, break dancing, battle raps, the apparel and most importantly how it puts people from all ranges of society together and also brings wealth to deprived areas and gives people a way out of poverty. Love my hip hop. I have learnt things from rappers like words I have never heard before and I have had to look them up which has broadened my vocabulary
Still come back to this over the years and enjoy it just as much each time. Fantastic use of Buck 65 - Centaur
You know you've won when your competitor is enjoying being beaten.
Did you ever wonder how r2d2 sounds when rapping? Well here you go 0:44

@@Doggmatic_ there character named r2d2 and he sounds like that

Yes, and when translated: "I go by fuckin R2, niggas know my name, I'll put my probe in your ass and you'll go insane!"
I don’t DJ and I’m a total metal head but this is on of my favourite videos of all time! The skill involved and the imagination to come up with it in the first place is amazing 🤘
His ability to adapt and improvise is totally unreal. Hand-eye coordination and everything added up, he's a fkn savant. Gold.
Big Respect From Ukraine Fan Club Star Wars(Kiev)! You Monsters of Skratch!!!! I Love This!
Vader: Impressive. Most impressive.
LA Cruz hellyeah. Never underestimate the power of the turntables.
And how many hear James Earl Jones when they read this?
I was at this performance, standing 10 feet behind him (backstage). I lost my sh*t when Scratch pulled that. One of my most memorable turntablist culture moments!!
Vern Whitt II ah, real vinyl... They sure don't make DJs like this too often nowadays.
I was right behind Beachman ...I remember everyone getting up mouths open...was pretty fucking amazing
I have no idea who the other dude is....
You lucky Bastid.
This appears in my time line every so often n I have to watch it several times again. Never gets old this. Just pure skill….
Seeing this years back on Scribble Jam blew my mind, still does till this day! Absolute classic mate!
0:42 Bastid motions to himself "a master", then to his opponent "and an apprentice"
20 years later and this still holds up as one of the greatest scratch battle finishers. Still crazy.
As soon as that guy realized the mix and knew he was beat,he stood there stoically and accepted it. I imagine afterwards that they shook hands and walked away having a laugh at the fun they both had. My hat is off to the competition for just enjoying the whole performance. And as for Scratch Bastid. ....wow. Incredible.
i come here again and again to listen to this, it just puts a smile on my face:)
1:44 - "I'm about to end your whole career."
Underrated comment.

The reaction of a crowd is just purely amazing! That was a truly great breakdown! Like a K.O. punchline!
I watch this every so often and it still is awesome as the first time.
This is STILL, one of the most impressive things I've ever seen and still a huge moment in hiphop.
The imperial March at the end never gets old. Blows me away every time
I've dropped an Imperial March remix into my sets a couple times and the clubs went wild. I officially delegate that praise to this amazing performer.
sure it did. "the clubs" went wild. I believe you.
I dont care what anyone says. This is the toppest of the top shelf that there has ever been in terms of creativity.

2022. This will never get old. The foreshadowing is perfect. This is the definition of perfect.
Bruh I remember watching this when I was 14, I'm now 25 and still come back to watch this masterpiece. One of the coldest sets ever
Here's the thing. The track before had a Yoda sample saying there's always 2, the Master and the Apprentice. Then right before he tone played The Imperial March he got a look in his eye. Then he straight looked at his opponent as if he sensed he was going to win. Clearly he's a Sith Lord!
Indeed! The dark side is strong with this one. He most definitely (if he could) make that Imperial March cut longer 👍
I loved the look he gave to the other guy. He was all, oh damn I hear star wars in this.
It Piss
Where can I find the full battle?
CognitiveDissonance yes
I was 5yrs old when I Star Wars came out! I remember my Mom reading the opening scroll to me in the movie theater! This video made me remember that feeling again!
Man. This brings back memories! Haven't heard a good scratch for a long time! And the Star Wars March was ingenious!
I thought the judges were creatively telling him how much time he had, turns out he put that record on just for that
Absolute boss move
Like I know how much time I got, it's all part of my jam
A few years later, NoCanDo would do it in the emcee battles too, lol.
@@AsiaDanceScene bruh thankyou for the comment, I totally forgot about this knee slapper
An example of 100% Battle Preparation *Respect*: the sound of the lightsabers, the Yoda-speech (there are always two, a master and an apprentice and even pointing toward the other DJ!), the space guns, the ‘only 30-seconds to go’ and then the imperial March! 🔥🔥🔥
don't forget the r2d2 voice like scratching
@@liminal7853 excellent addition!!
He's doing this with no headphones holy ship.
No need, he had the vinyls marked, aka "cue".
He had the vinyls marked and cued. Like a DJ should.
And he has a speaker under the table on both sides shooting the sound towards him...

Its the little sideways look.....
I guess thats what owning someone feels like...the knockout blow..
The humble side way's stare
And 1:50 is what "I've just been owned" looks like.
we need to stop looking at this likes it's a competition, like it's a childish game.....what you're looking at is called respect
That little look goes, "sorry, bro!"
Credit to the other fella, though. He appreciated what he was seeing, all the way through, and then had the good grace to roll with it.

Still my favorite UA-cam video ever. After all these years.
10 years later still come back to see him look at the dude right before he kills it
The second part still gives me goosebumps. Remember seeing this for the first time in like 2006, was the coolest thing I've ever heard.
Every few months I come back and revisit this video
I remember this like it was yesterday. Every May 4th I just have to post it to all my SM. I remember how good the dude he was batllin' was too, he had it won....then the death march. Scratch Bastid is funny as hell too. Great sense of humor, I remember one year at Scribble he wore a Joe Dirt wig, dumpin' cans of heineken down his face, then proceded to kill it. Classic.
That sounds like the dopest set I've ever heard of in my life.
the best example of skrach bastid's talent! i've been watching this vid since it first appeared on youtube; classic
I haven't watched this since the first time I saw it hella years ago. I am just now learning and getting comfortable with DJing.
