#finasteride
Been using 3mg a week (taking 1 mg Monday Wednesday and Friday) for the last 6 months with no noticeable side effects and thrilled with the results. I have been contemplating taking finasteride for the last 10 years but would never have started this drug if it wasn't for your channel and professional advice with scientific evidence backing up what you were saying. Many many thanks. I'm sure there are millions of guys like me out there who haven't found you yet but would follow suit upon hearing this video. Keep up the outstanding work. Anyone else out there taking the same dose? Write you results below.......
Hey bud
Good to know
I've just started 1mg every other day
Is it really effective? Means you're seeing any noticeable results with this dosage??
Did you experience any regrowth with just 3mg a week?
@@lucaa2524 update
@@simpslayer4793 hey
It's been more than 3 months
I took my first pill on 19th Jan 2021
First I was taking just 1mg/ every other day but when I got confident about that I'm not having any kind of side effects and all so from mid Feb I started to take 1mg/everyday
No side effects luckily 🙏
No hair fall
Volume and density of my hair increased significantly
My meat is working better than ever 😂
Overall I'm happy 🔥
@@lucaa2524 damn happy for you keep it up , wish you head full of hair !!!
This is the most sensible, balanced discussion of Finasteride that I've ever seen. If I'd seen this 10 years ago maybe I'd have gotten over my fear of the drug and started taking it when I had more hair to save!
Thanks for the comment.
@Naveed Ahmed any sides so far ?
@Naveed Ahmed I took my first pill 3 hours ago, I’m nervous as hell haha. 25 with minimal hair loss but starting to recede, using rogaine 2x a day, and 3mg of finasteride a week. I swear to god if my dick breaks 😂😂
@Naveed Ahmed haha well everything seems normal except I did not wake up “happy” like I usually do. But it hasn’t been 24 hours, and that’s the only “negative” thing I can note, and I can’t even say that’s attributed to finasteride. Hope it all works out, within 3 months you’ll see some growth im sure of it!!
@Naveed Ahmed Well, I took my second dose, and everything has been normal, I don’t notice any side effects so far, but it’s still very early. Are you using topical minoxidil or oral?
You guys are great. Genuine and always looking to help others with specific information and logical opinions. I cant wait to recommend this channel to my future son when he is losing his hair. :)
I wish your UA-cam channel was around 10 years ago. I would have a lot more hair because I was hesitant to take Finasteride because of the side effects. When I started Finasteride 3 months ago, I experienced brain fog but no sexual side effects. Now, I have reduced from 7 days a week to 3 times a week. It seems my brain fog has gone away, and I haven't noticed any more or less desire for sex. Thank you for your recommendation!
At 3:10 Dr Vikram J. was almost ready to write the Testosterone to DHT reaction. 😂 Love you both btw!
“Trying to save the hair and not trying to save your life “sounds horrible glad you guys are honest
Thank you for the infromation! i have one question remaining. Youre saying that the dose doesn't matter because at a certain point u will reach peak levels either way. Im already on 0.5MG of finasteride for about more than 2 years. it seems my baldness progression has stopped. however would there be any point for me to up the dose to 1MG after already being on it for such al long time? would it benefit my hairloss and would it effect any sides? or do you think its not gone make a difference at all?
This is a good informative hair loss channel. There is a lot of UA-cam

are talking about.
This is very helpful and informative. I've been taking 1.25mg everyday for years. Excellent result. Now,, I would like to take it every other day due to the fact that the drug has been in my system for a longer period of time. No side effects. Also. I use hair serum from The Ordinary to rejuvenate my scalp. It has low strength of minoxidil. It doesn't dry my scalp as opposed to using Minoxidil.
I am about to start this drug, Does it affect your libido??
I had huge problems using 1mg a day of finasteride, maybe its too much at the same time so I will follow this advice of times a week, it will be my final attempt with this medication
@Alejandro Santa It absolutely destroyed my libido, my workouts weren't progressing anymore, I had some bad depression and anxiety episodes
I tried the 1mg twice a week but was still terrible
I stop completely a month ago and i'm still recovering, my libido is still very low and Im having no erections at all
@Alejandro Santa I am 100% sure it was caused by finasteride, some people are just sensitive about this medications and its not for everyone
@@Filipe6090 No, you cannot be 100% sure it was caused by finasteride unless you did a controlled experiment ruling out ALL other factors and variables (external and internal).

Hello,
First of all, I want to thank you very much for the interesting and effective content!
I have been taking finasteride 1 mg for 10 months every other day and I want the results to improve.
I am 30 years old. I feel great and probably no side effects.
My questions:
1. Is it worth trying to switch to 1 mg per day? Could it improve the results?
2. Is there a risk involved in returning to the current dose?
3. At a later age, should the dose be reduced regardless?
Many thanks in advance!!!
Just arrived 84t of Finasteride, I will do it 3 days/week and give you update in 3 and 6 months 👍

@@chucktaylor9494 Taking it 7x week you get no hair loss, 3x time some may fall out but still better than when not taking at all
Question: yes, the tissue half life is 30 days but don’t we also want 5-alpha Reductase to be blocked in the liver? If that’s the case, we have to consider the half-life of the drug in the blood as well. Furthermore, if we were only concerned about tissue half-life then topical finasteride must be as effective, if not, more effective than oral finasteride.
Just curious. Would love to hear your input. Thanks

Ive been taking 1 mg for 2.5 months and its done wonders for my hair... great difference... the hair is responding strongly to finasteride...my hair is much thicker and darker and the receeding hair is definitely thickening up more and more.... BUT... im experiencing quite severe sexual side effects and i know its the finasteride because they started the day i started taking it... my libido is greatly reduced, semen volume is much less, probably 50% less... my penis doesnt get as hard dusing sex and goes soft sometimes... i dont get erections as easily or as often, i dont have any pre-ejaculate anymore (which i used to have a lot of).... sorry for the graphi details but its really bothering me...but i dont want to lose my hair... ive got no idea what to do next...i can only get 5mg tablets an i cut them into five pieces which is hard to do since theire small, but im thinking of maybe trying to split it into 8 peces if i can manage, so i would be taking 0.625 mg per day to see if i can benefit from the stronger hair but no sexual side effects...but i have a bad feeling about this...since the doctor told me the hair growth itslef IS a side effect so a lower dosage will probably reduce all side effects including the hair growth...idk...i will try still, im 27 btw and have moderate hair loss but strong thinning...i wish there was some other proven solution other than finasteride to save a mans hair... minoxidil i didnt try since its prohibitively expensive in my region... with a salary of 500€ i cant afford 40€ a month for it... finasteride i paid 1.3€ for 28 5mg tablets generic...that nothing
i had same problem, im gonna try 1.25mg a week monday and thursday
Update please?
So, does this mean that once I build up the finasteride on my tissues, I can safely stop for up to 3 months and keep the inhibiting effects of finasteride, after finishing my finasteride break, should I do a build up again? like taking finasteride for another 3 months or so? or maybe I can keep the finasteride build-up by taking one pill every 5 days or something like that?
I'm really curious about this as well
Really good question. It appears that fin is taken WAY more frequently than necessary. 3x a week should be the starting point.
Why is everyone acting like 1mg of finasteride per day is a lot?! 5mg per day is a lot. 1mg is the standard.
Hi. great show and very informative. for a year i took 1mg finasteride and now i shifted to finasteride 5mg and split the pill 1.25mg and i take it daily. based on your dosing. should i take it 1.25mg 3x a day? i have not felt any side effect even taking it daily even with 1.25mg. is it okay to adjust it to 1.25mg 3x a week? thanks in advance
I love your show and I have watched all your videos! You stressed that Finasteride gets stored in the body over time. Hence the following question: after having taken Finasteride for a full year (3mg/week), can I reduce the dosage for maintenance (for instance, 1.5mg/week) without loosing ground? Thanks.
I'm doing .25 MG 3x/week. 2 full days in between doses. So far so good! Hair fall has reduced. And no sides.
How many months in?
Hey man, I'm considering starting soon with the same protocol. Are you planning on ramping up the dose eventually if hair loss progresses again?

Thank you guys. I have been taking 1mg a day for about two years and within the last 8 months have experienced a bunch of side effects.. I quite for 3 weeks and took 1mg again yesterday and had a headache within an hour and felt very lethargic.. I think I will now try .5 a day to get the 3mg a week target.. I just don’t want to take 1mg doses because I have a response with it
Like you I have been on finasteride for 2 years (1.25mg a day) and I've had side effects. My once thick beard has become thin, sparse and patchy and my morning erections completely stopped, as well as my sperm becoming very watery. I have considered stopping altogether, but am obviously fearful of losing all the hair I have maintained while being on finasteride, so what I have done instead is cut the 5mg into 8 pieces and am taking 0.625mg a day as opposed to 1.25mg a day. My question is, should I stop taking the pill entirely for 30 days and then start again as some doctors recommend?
@@Danimal77 I also have been on it for roughly 2 years. I started taking 1mg daily for the first year with fluctuating results. Morning erections also occurred less but it was very inconsistent which was odd. After doing some research on DHT, dosage rang, case studies and taking my health profile into consideration I decided to start taking 1.5 mg daily. Because I do have an aggressive rate of hair loss I felt that this would work better for me and it has been so far. What’s even more strange is that orgasms are more intense oddly enough and I can’t find any answer on that topic with finasteride. It wasn’t like that on just 1mg but now it is after starting with 1.5mg. No Erectile dysfunction, no decrease in libido, nothing. In fact my libido is slightly higher then before as well. I have read about finasteride increasing the levels of free testosterone in the body but those levels are so low it shouldn’t be a problem, a possible increase of testosterone is the only thing I can think of that could contribute to what I’m experiencing. Have you had experienced this?

Can i take only 0,5mg 3 times a week? should i go rather to topical finasteride?
You didn't cover what happens if 1mg 3 days a week, or even 1mg daily isn't enough to stop hairloss. Spencer Kobren and Joe Tillman often say on their show that Finasteride results are dose dependant, and that some people needed a higher dosage.
True. It is on a case y case basis. But most people will respond to a lower dose like 3mg per week.
Thanks for a great video, I've subscribed to your channel! I'm 65 and just had a hair transplant... am I too old to be starting finasteride? I've been using minoxidil for 20 years now, and I'm curious if even that's still working for me! Also, what percentage of your patients complain of prostate/sexual side effects from finasteride, and do they usually go away after stopping its use? I'm reading about how sometimes the side effects are permanent...

It will take between 6-10 months to see benefits beyond baseline from when you started .. it will often cause an initial shed phase as it will generate new hair growth so losing hair for the first few months is normal .. if you aren’t seeing benefits after 12 months then you may not be a responded to the medication

Yes that actually happens quite frequently. It's more likely to happen if you start on a lower dose and slowly scale up. Your body, which may early on experience headaches, fuzziness, testicular ache, will often adjust as it gets used to a slightly different amount of DHT.

Dear Sir, Please answer my question.
Does finasteride affect knee laxity?
Question; I’m 24, have a full head of hair, however my father is bald. In my position, would finasteride be useful in preventing any future hair loss and maintaining my hair?
Drs: episode idea: Your thoughts on anaerobic exercise, DHT and balding. Do certain types of exercise (weight lifting) increase DHT and accelerate hair loss to those genetically predisposed? Would finasteride "protect" against a rise in DHT from say weight training? Thank you.
Have a look at the episode on Finasteride, DHT and Testosterone. In essence, anything that increases testosterone from strength training to exogenous testosterone will result in an increase in DHT levels. This will potentially lead to hair loss in the genetically determined group.
Thank you doctors so much for the response! I enjoy your podcasts.
Another show idea if it hasn't been covered already: Your practices' experience with long term finasteride results, 10, 15 and 20 years. I recall an Italian study that reached conclusion that after 10 years the majority of men who took are better off than their baseline. Is that consistent with what you have observed in your patients?

1. I have started taking topical (minoxidil 5% + finasteride 0.1%) and applying daily once in night since past 5 weeks. So if I am already on topical finasteride, do I also need to take the oral tablets? Is the topical dose sufficient?
2. Second is about PRP and Mesotherapy. Which one is more effective

Not sure which curve you guys are referring to.
Looking at the Finasteride Inhibition Curve, it's efficacy is 64% at 1/4mg, 67% at 1/2mg and 68.7% at 1mg.
Wouldn't it make sense to start at the lowest possible dosage and assess progress/side effects?

If you make decisions based on horror stories than I wouldn't even take the drug to start with. You're already going into it with a confirmation bias and you WILL experience side effects due to created a self-fulfilling prophecy for yourself.
Unfortunately, there is always a trial and error with everyone concerning the dose. 1 mg/every day is too much imo as well, 1mg/3x in a week may also be too much for a certain group of people. Any pre-existing condition for e.g. means that it may be safer for you to take a lower dose than 3 mg/week. If you have any mental disorders for e.g., tinnitus, or pre-existing sexual/hormonal issues, it's best if you take less. It's best to not have side effects and raise the dose, rather than have side effects and lower it. Side effects must be avoided at any cost, because many of them have been reported to last for a very long time, like tinnitus for e.g. With my doctor we decided it was best if I took 2 mg/week (0.25 mg for 6 days and 0.5 mg on the 7th to reach the 2 mg). I do not necessarily agree that 0.20 has that little effectiveness. There are studies which show how highly effective 0.20 mg is. It's still less effective than 1 mg (around 10% in one study and 4% in the other), but it's still enough to save your hair.

@the hair loss show I'm 24 yrs old male with a little aggressive MPB can I take 1mg per day for few months and then decrease it to 0.5mg per day to maintain it..
Thanks for your time.
Update?
Hello doctor! Just wanted to ask. May i lower the dosage from 7mg per week after half of year usage to 3mg per week just like you said? Or it's not worth it?
If you are not getting side effects on 7mg, I would just continue.
The Hair Loss Show thank u so much for sharing all of this information! You are the greatest! And please take care of yourself in these difficult times!
I like this concept, I started balding at 19, not severely but over time it got bad now I take finasteride every other day to 3 days at 1 mg and I've been keeping track of it closely just started a couple weeks ago
Devin Mooney how has it been? Just started the same today...
updates?
What happened? Has it been effective in halting your hair loss?

@@PeriodDrama my hair loss has stopped and is starting to improve
Probably going to be a really stupid question.. but I’m looking at getting on finasteride.. but what’s the difference between propecia tablets and finasteride? Do finasteride do 1mg tablets or just 5mg??
I started with poscar 5 mg and i split in 6 a week
This channel is invaluable. Honestly I used to panic over potential sides after taking just 0.5mg everyday but 3mg a week is actually working really well for me. We need professionals like these guys in our lives. I had a consultation once and was given terrible advice. I was advised against finesteride and was recommended to start laser therapy and then a transplant in future, with no realistic explanation as to how to maintain existing hair. I’ve really learn a lot from these videos :) so thanks for your hard work!
Appreciate it.
i got recommended the same thing. Lazer and minoxidial and eventually pressured into a FUE transplant. I don't think Finasteride was even offered to me
I got recommended PRP. Its just greedy derma people trying to line their own pockets. Actual treatment for male pattern baldness are cheap.
Min + Fin + ketoconazcole. That's it
This channel is a gift to the fight against hair loss.
What an underrated channel. Surprised they don’t have tens of thousands of subscribers.
We'll get there hopefully...
@Praveen Kumar Thanks.
The Hair Loss Show I hope you dont 😅 it would mean there is no cure for this cancer
@@TheHairLossShow I'm confused. You guys kinda contradict yourself You said no need to take 7 mg a week and 3 mg a fine but then say it's probably not doing anything. Is taking 2 mg a week worth it or not? Bc that's the most my body can handle.
@@TheJakeMarc if there is a side effect...stick to minimum dose your body can handle, they already told the reason...
This is the best channel on UA-cam IMO for advice on finasteride usage - two professionals covering all kinds of information about finasteride.
Here at 10:10 they're even talking about the cost-saving finasteride dosing practise of splitting a 5mg proscar pill into quarters - Clearly these guys aren't affiliated with Merck if they're showing us how to dose finasteride on a budget (As well as the MWF weekly dosing routine they have previously recommended, which goes against the excessive daily Merck dosing recommendation) 🙂
So much knowledge freely shared. Thank you! (I just wish I had started this medication half a decade earlier!)

Thanks. Appreciate it.
The Hair Loss Show can finesteride cure alopecia areatta ???
@@kevinwilson3337 No. Different cause and mechanism of action. AA generally resolves on its own. You can inject steroids into the lesion which has shown to be beneficial.
Do you know any good hair doctors in London I know that's not the correct term sorry
This is my favorite hair loss channel. There’s a few good ones but this is the best I’ve seen.
Thanks. Appreciate it.
Kevin Mann's is one of the best and he's certainly the most knowledgable who does a lot of in depth research and tests out a lot of the newer treatments himself. He's obviously not a Doctor though.
@@trashbat7331 I’ll check him out. Thanks!
@@trashbat7331 he is not a doctor
Absolutely. Hair expert Drs.
This channel deserves to blow up.
Hi Dr. Vikram and Dr. Russell, recently I started to consider buying the 5mg Finasteride pills and cut them into quarters to take them 3 times a week as per your advice, I do have one concern about this practice though, do the pills get oxidized after they're cut and left untouched for a few days? This one really bothers me. Thanks so much!
No, it’s fine. put them in a tightly sealed jar together with a small satchet of silica gel.
I wish I had access to these kinds of doctors.
The REAL experts. This channel is a treasure.
Thank you for the great content. Any ways I can keep my DHT level in bloodstream relatively high while having DHT level low enough in the follicles to reduce hair loss? Is this the concept that makes 3x/week having fewer side effects than 7x/week?
yes
it is to either minimise or eliminate potential side effect.
Back when each thumbnail was basically this 😬🗿
3 mg per week like i must use to every two days or 0,5 to everyday?
1mg 3x /week
Super duper content! Wow
Statistics + Medicine + Extremely sound Framework -> Feels like 2 McKinsey consultants got into dermatology! :)
😂😂🎉
Hey docs so is 1mg every 3 days (so take a pill mon, wed, fri) is that the recommended dose? Or .5mg daily?
From my understanding, 1mg every 2 to 3 days is fine (Mon/Wed/Fri or Tues/Thurs/Sat). If you are experiencing certain symptoms, try reducing the dose and see if that helps.
@@a_romero so switching from 1mg everyday to 1mg monday wed fri is not cutting the dose?
will switching to 3 days a weeks help reduce sides
@@jackjaskowiak Going from 1mg everyday to 1mg Mon/Wed/Fri is cutting the dose. You are going from 7mg a week to 3mg a week. However, if you experience side effects at 3mg a week, you can use a pill cutter and cut the 1mg finasteride pill in half (.5mg). You can try taking half 4 days a week (Mon/Tues/Wed/Thurs). Now you'll be taking 2mg a week instead of 3mg. That said, I am no doctor. This is my understanding of the video.
@@jackjaskowiak I believe so since you are taking less mg a week. However, there is no guarantee. Some people are more sensitive to certain prescriptions while others are not. The good thing is odds are in your favor. I believe this channel has a video that discusses how less than 2% of participants experienced serious side effects. You should check it out 🤙🏼
Can you comment on the Drake et al. (1999) study that concluded that taking 0.2 mg per day is almost the same as taking 1 mg a day. Also, to achieve that steady state, can we take 0.5 mg 3 times a week?
Any news about that? Have read the same..
I can't give you guys credit enough and praise you enough for your shared knowledge. As a 32 year old male (starting to bald), who is about to start to taking the medicine, this information is worth so much. Thank you guys, alot
how has your journey been?
If I was to play devil's advocate, aren't the side effects of finasteride caused by the lowering of DHT in the first place? So regardless of which dosage you use, if the drug is working then by definition it is enough to cause the side effects?
Basically if my penis is not super active im happy because my hair is Growing well haha
Not really if you lower DHT by 50% you still have DHT in your body
