Q&A - Why is my passion fruit vine not producing fruits?
Вставка
- Опубліковано 21 вер 2021
- Some passion fruit plants are self-fertile and others need cross pollination from another variety. UT Extension Agent Chris Cooper says if you do not have a self-fertile variety you will need to plant another plant of a different variety to allow crosspollination. Also, Chris recommends not fertilizing regularly, especially with nitrogen fertilizer.

Great sharing 🌷🌷
I have one that looks like that it doesn't flower much but has produced fruit.
Local grower said it's "too happy" and that is why I don't get many flowers.
It right at 2yrs old and has 1" diameter stalks
My passionfruit was flowering and producing fruits until I fertilized. It still produces flowers, but they do not bear, even when manually pollinating. I fertilized because I was thinking that, the plant was doing so well and producing so many fruits that it would need feeding. But I think it interrupted the natural cycle of the plant somehow. If I had to guess, the extra nitrogen caused the plant to spur vine growth at the expense of fruit growth. I fertilized with fish fertilizer and bone meal. It didn't harm the plant at all, it still grows vigorously, but I missed out on a bunch of flowers turning into fruits. Still dozens of flower buds growing, and the maturation of the fruit is rapid, so I'm hopeful it will bounce back soon and resume producing.
Or does it mean a different type of yellow passion fruit with a different species, just as P.Edulis?
Thanks for your expertise.
These type are the yellow ones which need to be pollinated from another vine. I read that its mostly the carpenter bees that pollinate them so they are hard to set fruit. Otherwise hand pollinate using a different vines flowers. Just found this out as i am also having a problem where mine hasnt yet set fruit. Luckily i planted to other types and one looks to be ready to make its first blossoms.
When you say two different types, do you mean still yellow passion fruit plants but just from a different mother plant? In other words, still Passiflora Incarnata but just from different mother plants? Or do you mean different species of Passiflora? I have 4 different vines growing in proximity to each other but I suspect the seeds all came from the same mother plant.

Thanks for your expertise.
Also, it may take up to 3 years to produce fruit on a self pollinating vine.
What do you recommend for fertilizer for passion fruit

Why my passion fruit tree doesn’t produce even flowers?
Same here dont know
probably needs more sun -- or trim it way back and let it regrow, it's mostly the new growth that flowers, not old vines.@@sahezad6565

What is a good ph for passion fruit plants?
My passion fruit tree has 7-10 flowers everyday & there are bees and ants besides my manual pollination.Unfortunately the male flowers/anthers have no pollen grains, I took a few to dissect. My passion plant was grown from stem cutting. It was grown in pot for 1 year before I planted on ground in January 22 2023 and in June all flowers start to bloom, I have given enough potassium from burried fish heads/bodies and used coffee powder.Comment on above and give your advice please.
I have one just like that, same color, that always blooms, but never produce fruit, it's not because of not being pollinated, because the hummingbird and bees are all over them and My whole yard is covered in flowers.
Did you ever get an answer? Or better yet, a fruit?
I have the self fertile. No flower no fruit. Fertilize with what? No N
Why small flowers buds gets dry and yellow color
I planted my purple passionfruit vine 3yrs ago, only one or two flowers up till now. The vine is massive, very thick, very green, but not enough flowering going on. Any sdvice sdto why its not performing. Its in full sun and gets adequate watering.
2nd question, family member has one purple vine and one yellow banana passionfruit vine, both have 3 green passionfruit for about 3 months, they wont ripen. Both in full sun, and in soil raised up about 30cms as natural ground very bsd grey clay. Any advice , ideas as to why wont ripen?. Vines planted sept 2021 in spring in Perth, Western Australia
Any update ? Same issue with me I planted in new south wales
@@sahezad6565 hello, yes I hv update. For past 6 to 8 months there have been plenty flowers, and fruit that ripens. But purple one only.
Banana passion fruit continues to not produce flowers, hence no fruit. comprehensive and liberal supply of fertilizer all around the base, hoed it in to both vines. Made sure both got adequate water. I'm convinced purple didn't have enough nutrients, and banana passionfruit just not suited to Perth climate.
There is a part of my backyard that is covered with passion fruit vine , the leaves are huge and healthy with beautiful flowers but after a few days of the flowers being open they all fall off. I just don’t know what to do at this , I am so close of pulling them off. Can someone please explain to me what’s going on?
