As a half French person I feel it is pertinent to address that what we understand as the croissant was not originally developed in France but actually in Austria (originally called the kipferl). It became very popular, changed name from crescent in German to crescent in French, dough was made lighter and then we have basically what you enjoyed in this video. So we can really thank the Viennese for at least some of the croissant.
@D Anemon that's what I said, the dough was changed post arrival to France but the origins are tied to the Viennese with Marie Antoinette. Without that you wouldn't be getting the full concept of croissant (it's even in the name).
The word "Pastry" can be translated in french by "viennoiserie" ... meaning also : "from Vienna". We use that word (viennoiserie) a lot !! So I believe that's an homage to the Austrian bakers.
I've tried the Austrian variety(the original) and it's clear that the French have perfected the _croissant_ . It's just not comparable! But yes, the dough is different. The Austrian one is basically bread, but the puff pastry French version is just delicious!
@D Anemon No the Kipferl is not a bread, it is a different kind of pastry dough, in fact it csn be made in a veriety of doughs ranging from a sweet yeast dough to sweet Short (crust) dough similar to the one in shortbread. The french originally also used the sweet yeast dough until the early 20th century. If you think the Kipferl is bread, you don't know bread.....
Speaking of raisins, I absolutely detest raisins. I remember meeting my French host mum for the first time and we were chatting and getting to know each other in her informal dining room. The conversation proceeded to food and she asked me if I wanted to nibble on something and I politely said yes. When she came back from the kitchen, there was a generous slice of raisin bread on a small plate and I was trying hard not to make any weird faces. Then she asked me if I was allergic to anything and which food I didn't like. I said I'm not a picky eater, but one ingredient I cannot eat are raisins, then glanced down on the raisin bread. We both paused, then looked at the raisin bread, and laughed lmaoo Let's just say she took the plate back to the kitchen and never bought raisin anything during my whole stay in her house. Yes they are, I mean my father and uncles started a tradition of doing a car Cross countries journey every other years (since the oldest, my dad, was 18) to Paris for a breakfast in Paris with freshly baked croissants…. Travels started in different city’s in Germany, Spain, Greece, Croatia and Sweden in the last 40years, and I doubt he stops…. And I intend to continue that tradition in the future
It's so fascinating to watch croissants being made. They're very labor intensive. Most of us, unless we have a time machine, don't live near a quality bakery, and must make do with whatever croissant-like pastries come our way. I put mine in the toaster oven just long enough to crisp up the outside,
The pairing of Josh and ollie speaks why their chemistry works so well... one very good looking extremely fashionable person with a funnily laugh and another extremely funny but care not how they look like going only for comfort type of person.
Have to say this is the most entertaining channel to be delivered by the yt algorithm yet. I’m envious of all the fun you’re having and wish I could enjoy a Parisian croissant with you. Merry Christmas from Texas! 🎄🎅🏻 🤠
I went to France 20 years ago and I recall their croissants being excellent. I was a student and we didn’t go to any fancy bakeries but yknow really good. I went to South Korea in 2019 and Paris Baguette at Seoul Station had the best croissants I’ve ever had. I still think about it years later. I can’t wait for them to come to Canada.
Love watching you on all channels. As a retired educator, I’d like to share one historical point. The croissant is credited as originating in Vienna when Viennese bakers created pastry in the shape of the crescent moon to spare his life and that of those with him from the invading Moors in 1683. I doubt UA-cam would let me post a link, but you can certainly find this information online. 😉
I’m excited for the McDonald’s in Paris episode 😂 I’ve had McDonald’s in other countries too and it’s always different... some good and some, we need to adjust 😅 I personally try McDonald’s in other countries to see the unique menu they made to adapt in that country and if they did justice in it. It’s not for the quest of good food but out of curiousity... I don’t think others would like that curiousness but there’s people like us 😂 we love food.
i was at a paris mcconalds when i was a teenager and everything tasted so different and really bad, the taste of the fries was the worst, that i never tried french mcd again.
I watched somewhere that you can't see the menu of the Mcdonalds in France online if you're outside of France. Judging from next episode's preview, could this be the reason?
Is no one gonna talk about the moment at 0:54 when Ollie says "I think I see a carrot" and it cuts to him walking past a carrot statue to Josh who just happens to be standing next to it - idk if this was planned but it's perfect comedy gold xD
Haven't been to France since I was a teenager, where I used to go camping every year with my family. 1 thing I do miss is their food, their cakes/pastries are next level.

'Do you hear the people sing?' 'Sacrebleu!' Oh Ollie 😂😂😂😂 Throughout this entire video, he radiates the energy of somebody who took French at GCSE and has since forgotten 70% of it. I'm not sure if he did, but I'm getting the vibe.
This reminds me of that time the SortedFood Boys went to Paris and whichever bakery they went to was closed. Happy to see a new shop in a video.
I don’t even know how I discovered this channel but I’m glad I did it has become one of my favorites I love this friendship so much
Yes they are, I mean my father and uncles started a tradition of doing a car Cross countries journey every other years (since the oldest, my dad, was 18) to Paris for a breakfast in Paris with freshly baked croissants…. Travels started in different city’s in Germany, Spain, Greece, Croatia and Sweden in the last 40years, and I doubt he stops…. And I intend to continue that tradition in the future
I love how Ollie has a specific description for each of the croissants and how oddly specific they are.
Hang on. Did anyone else notice Muncho at 0:54? Looks like Josh brought his two best friends with him to France.
It's so fascinating to watch croissants being made. They're very labor intensive. Most of us, unless we have a time machine, don't live near a quality bakery, and must make do with whatever croissant-like pastries come our way. I put mine in the toaster oven just long enough to crisp up the outside,
Yes. Yes they are. Although you can get great ones elsewhere now. Baguettes, no comparison.
I love how Ollie was complaining about the amount of calories Josh bought and how he always eats the bigger half of the croissant.
The pairing of Josh and ollie speaks why their chemistry works so well... one very good looking extremely fashionable person with a funnily laugh and another extremely funny but care not how they look like going only for comfort type of person.
I'm sure Josh learned a lot from his time in the fashion industry. 😊
Jesus Christ loves you. Please remember this. Thanks
I just love Ollies Jokes and how you both fit together so well. Love the content as always!!
I love you guys so much. First wife checking in on second wife and Josh! ;)
Is no one gonna talk about the moment at 0:54 when Ollie says "I think I see a carrot" and it cuts to him walking past a carrot statue to Josh who just happens to be standing next to it - idk if this was planned but it's perfect comedy gold xD
I'm French and some time ago I hoped you would come to France and make videos about French food 🤩🥰 I'm so happy rn!! Love you guys
Ollie’s analogy about everything is funny but on point. 😂
These days I'm re-warching all the old Jolly& KE videos and I'm so happy to watch this actual new one!
Ollie is such a loyal, caring person. I wish my bestie would crash my vacations. 😂
Haven't been to France since I was a teenager, where I used to go camping every year with my family. 1 thing I do miss is their food, their cakes/pastries are next level.
It is. I think French pastries are the best in the world. Having moved back to the US, I miss the food dearly 😞
Wonderful! You couldn’t write a script funnier for Josh looking super cool in Burberry and Ollie like he’d slept in his clothes…totally understandable with the early start obviously!
the last bit...ollie saying people are staring stop laughing ahahhaa cant wait for next week 🥰
Josh eating the crumbs off Ollie's lap in 10:36 is a peak friendship moment. Because I could neverrrrr.
I love watching you guys try food! It was a great Jolly episode! Just fun!
I want what these two have, that incredible bromance and the lucky to travel the world tasting the most delicious food!
Nothing beats a French croissant early in the morning freshly baked. I've gained weight moving back here lol. Now fresh baguettes, nothing beats that.
Try them from Austria.. Sooo good!
Jealous.. I've only had packaged croissants microwaved for 30 seconds :/
Still great with coffee
Italy has the best croissant and "cornettos" in the world
You guys have done a lot of traveling so far (outside of Korea, of course)! First Scotland, then the US, now France? Wow! Also, Ollie's French is perfect!
Croissant is my favorite too. Nothing beats a freshly baked, flakey one. I envy you guys.
Man, now I'm craving french croissants, we survived on them when we went to Paris, the ones abroad just cannot compare.
I love your channel. Keep up the good work Guys. Love from David in South Africa 🇿🇦
How is Ollie's expression while eating, laughing from Josh, oh i love it! You guys really looks like soulmates 😂✌️ keep it up & waiting for the next video!!❤️
As a Frenchwoman who moved to Canada ten years ago, it was delightfully difficult to watch! I miss French pastry so much :-( Thanks for the trip 🙂
the most famous bakery brand is called "Paris Baguette" in Korea, but I've never been to France ever. I really want to go there if I have a chance lol everything looks so good!!
I hope you'll do a video for Juno's 4th birthday!! I love seeing her reaction to your crazy surprises 🥰
J'adore Ollie ❣️ especially when he talked about raisins, I've never related to someone so much like with him at that moment.
If I was ever able to actually get to go to a real patisserie in Paris I would more than likely eat myself sick. You guys are literally living my dream right now I am living vicariously through you thank you for taking me to Paris
I love watching your channel. It brings me so much joy. You both are hysterically funny.
C'est un véritable plaisir de vous voir vous régaler. Vivement de vous revoir chez nous . 😘
The home of croissant finally turned into the kingdom!!!! All pastries you had do look good!! I’ve never seen such a both super crispy and fluffy one. This video’ve made me to want to visit a French local pastry shop and be overwhelmed by its mouth-filling flavor. I would say I can’t handle much more, but it’s literally a happiness in the croissant kingdom. Haha.
Love this casual city snack trip! 💙
You should have a lil mini series sporadically going on lil trips on the Eurostar to try little snacks in nearby European cities (esp Paris/France)
It reminds me of “Paul Hollywood’s City Bakes” mini tv series, which I also Love to watch - similar vibes - love it ✨
Josh is amazing, love his snickering laugh than can go all barking seal in, but I can't keep my eyes off Ollie in a video. He's so charismatic. How fun to eat food all over the world with your BFF and make money at it!?!?! These two are going to live to be 100 for all the relaxed fun they have together. All the smiles, laughter, shared GOOD food.
"I see a Carrott" 😂
You both are adorable and everytime you burst in laughter I my jaw was aching as well while smiling wide. Now I want some "French Croissants!"
