👉Where are most GM vehicles made?
DETROIT - General Motors produces more models with the highest amounts of American-produced components than any other automaker, according to two recent independent studies. In the Cars.com annual American-Made Index for 2020, nine of the top 25 models are GM products, more than any other manufacturer.
👉Which GM cars are made in China?
GM will introduce the Buick Envision, a midsize sport-utility vehicle made in Shandong province, the Wall Street Journal reported. NEW YORK-General Motors plans to sell Chinese-made cars in the United States beginning early next year, a first for a major automaker, The Wall Street Journal reported Thursday.
👉Who owns GM now?
In the past, the U.S. government was a majority shareholder in the company (after the 2008 bailouts). However, in 2010 GM broke free from the government's yoke and was reborn in its current incarnation. Today, the top three individual GM shareholders are Mary Barra, Mark Reuss and Dan Ammann.

I'm glad you stuck with the original factory noise instead of playing music over it... Most of that music is crap.
Thanks a lot npsit for your feedback. I agree completely!
64 yo female here born, raised and lived in Flint, Michigan. The birthplace of GM. Most every kid I graduated with aspired to work for GM (shop). The only place you could have a good paying job without a college education. We were raised by parents that worked in these shops and had given us a good middle class upbringing. Flint had Chevrolet, Buick, AC, Truck and Bus and Fisher Body Ternstadt. All gone now except for the truck plant and metal plant.
Sadly government regulations & high taxes is the reason for most of manufacturing to leave the US.
My GM pickup kept disappearing like your factory has done to you. I started buying Toyotas, no rust making them disappear.
68 years old and have never owned any vehicle other than a GM. Every vehicle manufacturer has problems with their vehicles but I've been consistently happy with GM quality and reliability. I also feel like all the GM vehicles I've owned have been easy to maintain and work on. Watching videos like these I'm in awe of the infrastructure and robotics it takes to manufacture a vehicle and the investment GM makes to equip a plant. The costs must be staggering. And the maintenance workers it must take to maintain and keeps all the machinery working aside from the employees assembling the vehicles. And the logistics of all the parts that have to arrive where they need to at the right time and place. The engineering that goes into all of it is nothing short of amazing.
It's nice to see old memories. As a union contractor I have been fortunate enough to see the inside of several of these plants. It has brought back some very good memories. Thanks for sharing it with us.
So nice of you! Thanks for sharing... What was your job Ron in car factory?
The worker with thirty year’s seniority gets to put the owner’s manual in the glove box.
Just like the Rolls Royce factory in good old England, the worker assembling the engine got to have his signature stamped on the block. The cars were in reality posh barges with plenty of leather seating and wood paneling, but lacked innovation. I suppose the owner would be getting a sense of exclusivity in the knowledge that his engine was personally signed by someone who had some sort of wrenching experience. Then BMW came down the road and showed them how to build a car, and better engines.
Thirty years and a production line worker has worn their body out ! Paychecks are blood money !
Is it in a sandwich baggie? I bet it is.
I will always buy GM. My Duramax had over 700k miles when I traded it in. They are pretty good trucks. The Transmission is awesome. If I need to buy another one I would do it.
No thanks lol.
I worked for General Motors Hydramatic div 1976 ~ 2006. I moved from Tennessee up to Michigan looking for a job in an automotive plant. I just happened to get hired in at Hydramatic. After I retired, I moved back to TN, I was really lucky to have had such a job. We just didn't have jobs that paid or had the benefits that I had. Within the first year I was making as much if not more than my dad in TN working 2 full time jobs.
Nice to see them right before they start rusting.
LMAO
I have nissan rogue 2011, has a lot rust, so I painted all the bottom

GM vehicles are the laughing stock of the world dude......
Amen bro, 2010 Sierra Denali,6.2 that doesn’t have afm, only thing I’ve replaced was brakes and a battery so far…👍
hi i am still running my 1005 chev half ton4.8 v8 324000 on it still run,s great body is also very good it payes to look after your truck
i could never ever in my life do this.the life cycle of these jobs is to short now i guess eveything is temporary now in the world.hats off to the people who do.
What do you do for work now may I ask
Definitely some truth to this. I work in a Big 3 factory. There are people with stopwatches and clipboards who’s job is to find ways to do things faster. If you can find a way to put part A with part B faster than expected, they will add part C
People don’t realize what kind of blood sweat and tears go into these vehicles great respect to all these HARD working people who give up so much to build them
Blood sweat and tears? People/ autoworkers don't know how good they have it today. People don;'t have to life a finger compared to autoworkers in the past. You should watch the videos of the original Ford Workers ie Rouge Plant workers. As you can see in this video, most of he workers are fat.
Stacking panels REAL BLOOD SWEAT ANT TEARS???????
Thank You, Folks. I'm enjoying my 2022 2SS Camaro very much. My first new GM product. I'm impressed thus far compared to the German and Japan products i've had. Sad, Grand River has the last Camaro coming off the line Dec. 14th 2023.
I like how they slow the line down when they're doing video.
It's an illusion. It's not going that slow. Typically you have about 45-55 seconds to do your job before the next vehicle is in your area.
I'm still very happy with my 1988 Chevy celebrity 175,000 n my 05 Malibu Maxx with just turned 375,000. Gm knew what they were doing when they built theses car
i still drive corvairs i had an 89 celebrity had 200,00 on it great car
Lansing Delta Township, I have several friends who work there.
8 hours must seem like a lifetime. Lather, rinse, repeat.
We always worked a mandatory 10 hours at Toledo Jeep Assembly.
God I love watching these assembly plant videos and the old plants that were shut down…I’ve drove all gm my whole life,(52 here).even the $600/ 1993 lumina and a grand am ran killer…had iroc-z’s,formula 350’s,Transam’s then onto gm trucks as I hit my 30’s..gm builds the best looking trucks and suv”s and some cars as well (not much anymore ).I always wanted to get in one of these gigs at 18[1988] work 30 years and retire at 48 with a pension…us gen x definitely did not have the same opportunities as our parents and grandparents before us did…in the early 90’s you needed to know someone to get you in…I do well as I became a machinist and make close to what these “line”workers get…but ,oh marone, that damn pension would be awesome about right now. The writing on the wall was as early as 1975…. Old timers that got in in ‘55 were out in ‘85…
My dad's 2022 Chevy Traverse was born there at Lansing.
No it was put together there.
From, 12:40, I like watching those robots work.
The only GM vehicle I ever owned was a 1980's model Buick Skylark, a very elegant body shape with hardtop. We bought it secondhand and had some issues but dad and I had it fully painted and we sorted it out. Gave me good service for nearly a decade before I scraped it.

I’m the team lead of 2nd Row 40% Backs and 40% Stanchions at Magna Seating in Ohio and Im in charge of production for the the Chevy Traverse, Buick Enclave and GMC Acadia. The first plant name looks familiar, I think this might be where our product goes lol
My grandpa had a 1972 Chevy C10 pick up truck. It was a red color. Great working vehicle. He used it for his chicken store business and to get around for random trips. He kept it after he retired in 1985. After his passing in 1996, my mom took posession of it. It was starting to have problems at the 150,000 mile mark of its life. It was having engine trouble, battery problems, spark plug issues etc. My mom tried to fix it but to no avail. So she decided to get rid of it in 2009. Kind of sad because I liked that truck but I guess there comes a point where there is nothing else you can do. Oh well.
Este Coche ES MI FAVORITO
Looking at this video and other similar videos from other manufacturers from all over the world, it is 'interesting' to see that in contrast to any other plant from other parts of the world, people in GM's plant are working plain clothed and non-uniformed. FYI this is just my observation, without judgement.
People on the assembly line for the most part get to wear whatever they want (no zippers) unless your job doesn't involve reaching
I sure feel like GM has upped its quality game. 2 newer Silverado pickups from 2 different plants. Not even 1 issue with either. Excellent vehicles
Lifter issues don't count?? Trans problems same.
@@FlyEaglesFly19111 I've had no problems. None.
hahahaha GM is garbage dude you must be living on mars
@@toddbob55 I've driven 75000 miles on my Silverado 1500 and almost 50k in my 2020 dually and both have been perfect. Also had a 2018 and 2019 dually and those were trouble free as well
@@howebrad4601 Repair costs? How many recalls? You had 2018 and 2019. If they were so great, why did you have to replace them in 2020?
incredible, that's why street mechanics will never leave us the same, and only good mechanics recognize themselves, which by the way, very few there
In the 1970s I was in college but had a job one summer at a Ford assembly plant in New Jersey, building Ford Fairmonts and Mercury Zephyrs mostly. The plant is long gone. Compared to this plant it was, at best, partially automated with much of the machinery potentially very hazardous. I remember all female workers either had to wear their hair short or tied up in scarves, for safety purposes. Apparently this isn't done anymore at least not at GM...
The Tahoe and Suburban are the top demand excellent vehicles only out sold by the Silverado
And GMC trucks - Really good and popular light trucks Had 5 so far myself ! Great equipment !
1964 1 ton , ‘67 C-10 , ‘78 C-25 , ‘92 K-1500 , now 2020 Silverado 4X4 --- all good times !
Next one : We shall see - Looking into K- 3500 w / big block Gasoline V- 8 that will do it !
Oddly , May have to go to Georgia to pick it up …? Huh - well . Bob in Florida .

At least the title doesn't say how QUALITY cars are made, and for good reason. lol
I am amazed of all the lift machines they use.
It’s no big deal to lift or install a part that weighs a few pounds once. Do it several hundred times over 8 hours a lift becomes a necessity.
I remember Chet Lemon
RUST never sleeps. But the tin, about the time it's paid for it has dissolved into rust dust.

@@larrycumbo2023 Mercedes Benz tin is not much better as it is so hard it can't be pounded out after a wrinkle without tearing or cracking. Hardly even weldable. Not very malleable.
Their seems to be a sticky substance on frame of my 22 custom 2500. Rust preventive? Anyhow I'm goina spray old. Diesel engine oil in all boxed in areas. Looked like g m did a lot diping entire shell.wonder what the material was??
@@markgamble8377 Its creosote on the frame its only a temporary rust prevention when frame is shipped to factory. If you notice it's only on the frame no overspray. And yes you have a good idea. The dipping is E-coat.
More robots and fewer lazy UAW "worker's" is the key to success.
I,ll look the world over far and wide for a car made by a non union company!,!
Where are they sourcing most of their parts?
I like the use of robots….human or other.
They build the engine around the oil filter. Then any serviceable part will require an engine removal to fix.
My 66 corvette still runs like a top
So does my 66 GTO!
Some of the music is when it’s break time or when a line is stopped
Sad to see how it's so quiet... Nobody breakin balls, laughing, yelling across the floor, loud things dropping, cursing...Mostly the laughing...The assembly plants of the 60's and 70's had life to them...The Robots have more life in them...I drive a silverado so, I'm a Chevy guy but...I wish there were more heart in the process...
I like the speed of the line. At Jeep it was turned up and I had 56 seconds to put on 2 wheels and start 10 lug nuts.
I hired in at Toledo Jeep in 1978 and retired in 2008 . At the height of XJ production we were building one every 49 seconds .
Monkey work.
@@joemama9098..lol..Easy for anyone to say if they have never worked on the assembly lines .
@@joemama9098 OK monkey, let's see YOU do it for 10 hrs/day 6 days/week then.
What is the significance of the musical notes playing in the background?
Faults and alerts on different lines. If all the alarms sounded the same it would be impossible to hear where it was coming from. Each line has a different song so it's easy to identify where the problem is coming from. Also different songs for breaks/lunch.
Cool video. So are all the Fanuc bots a result because no one wanted that union job?
What is the music that plays in the factory?
In my factory, there is a short music clip that plays over the intercom anytime there is a machine or line fault. Each line has its own clip, that way a repairman will hear that music clip and know exactly which line is down.
The factory I work in plays Mary had a Little lamp, clips from Clint Eastwood westerns, nursery rhymes, things like that. After awhile you don’t notice iy, until the music for your line plays.
Keep building them, I’ll drive my 83 Chevy c20, I hate the design and build quality of this new stuff
This video is definitely over the 2021. The Corvette’s they show are the C7 model, production stopped in 2019.

What's with the arrow on the thumbnail? Like "Hot girl at GM plant". 😂 lol
Wonder how many of those workers can afford what they build now compared to before
Thanks a lot for your comment... I also wonder that...

First off you have to know someone who works there or someone who use to work there to recommend you. Then you might get an application....
That's the way used to be..
Unfortunately now the only way to be hired is to work as a temp for 2 years. $16 an hour
After two years you get put on full-time and that's when your seniority starts. It takes 10 years after that reach top pay.
Pensions has been done away with since 2010.
Healthcare benefits is still good.
But we're short-handed because nobody wants to come here and work as a temp for $16 an hour. There's department stores like Rural King, Lowe's and Menards that are paying more than that.
GM jobs are not what it used to be.😕
@@markmadden1839 yeah I see on indeed 16.67 a hr!! No wonder no one wants to do it..these temp to start should be at least 20.67 to start…one question…after the 2 years is up and you get hired on..what’s that starting wage? What is it after the 10 years is put in?
When I watch car made in America compared to cars made in Japan big difference quality and attention and commitment. You don’t see that in American made cars they work like they don’t care and have shit in there pants
Wait, GM still makes cars??
Chris Baumann, not for much longer. Even Camaro is being discontinued again.
GM profits are taxed in the US ! Think about your foreign companies , how much US tax do they pay ?
@@ag-om6nr That's why many GM products are made outside of the USA.
The people that work in automotive assembly plants are less than trained skilled labor, yet, because of unions, their salaries compete with professionals in the medical field or upper management positions.
THAT is why vehicles cost as much as a small house.
Let's see YOU do it then!
@@hotpuppy1 ANYBODY can stand in an assembly line and put a weeble pin in a wobble hole, but not just everybody can remove an automatic transmission, completely disassemble it and repair or replace the damaged parts, put it back together and make it work better than it did when it was new. this is where they make GM with 90 % chinese parts GOOD for GM

Bill Bowe, some GM models are fully produced in China. A few are also produced in Mexico as well.
Not as many as the German car brands, Maybach is even made in India and then a lot of Audi cars are fully made in China.

You forget that the average life of a car from the fifties was about 6 years>>either the engine was worn out or the car rusted to pieces.
American car factories compared to Europe's lol. Europe's is so much more professional looking.
I agree and have found rather curious. Tons of auto building videos on here. The American workers are, generally, dressed like they just rolled out of bed. Now go look at an Audi plant. Professional looking, smart looking and technically trained. Difference is self respect.
@@kevinriordan7842 agreed, dress for success... or not.
@@anthonyurban2589 ...lol...Because the way you dress on the assembly line sure makes a difference.
@@toledojeeper2932 if you look more professional typically you feel more professional. but i would not expect a scrub to understand that.
@@anthonyurban2589 ...So here comes the insults .
I just don't see how uniforms make a difference on the assembly line . In my 30+ years at Toledo Jeep Assembly I always gave my 100% as did my fellow employees. We were very proud to build the Jeep XJ and Wranglers and took our jobs seriously.
All the workers seem like they are 20 years older than their actual ages.
This is brain numbing work, they deserve what they are paid(well the older contract guys). You could raise a family and make a good living without a college degree…(not all people are college material , just as not all are pipe fitters, plumbers etc),nowadays gm pays - 16.67 for temp hires -what a joke- and god knows how many years they hafta put in before they are hired into gm…that starting pay should be -20.67 a hr…. No wonder all these new cars are junk, them temps don’t give a shit ,as I wouldn’t either. As anyone knew getting into here along time ago was work that line ,come to work start taking tests to get off line and into skilled trades for even more money and definitely job security ( guaranteed when plants get shut down the skilled trade guys find work faster and probably closer to their previous wage. The line folk get screwed going from 29 a hour to whatever they can get somewhere else).
Some of the vehicles pictured in this video are still currently waiting for a chip.
Please check your email. I am interested in licensing this footage for an episode of a TV series
