  • Hey y'all! In today's video I'm showing you the entire process to upgrading the SSD in your OLED Steam Deck so you can place larger sized drives in it. This is great for storing A LOT more games or just saving money on a 512GB and upgrading later.

    Thanks for this. Its interesting how you were still able to do it without detaching the battery and the black ribbon cable. Great angles and shots too really helped. Waiting for a good deal on the 2TB SSD

      Thanks! The ribbon cable is no problem but I do recommend getting that battery unplugged when performing an upgrade like this. I hope you find a good deal soon!

      Thank you! And right?! It's that ribbon cable that makes it so tense. I hope they improve that design in the next deck to not have to deal with delicate cables.

    LOL, the intro. Hey, someone needs to get you a V60 or a Chemex for Christmas. For someone who loves cooking as much as you do, I think you’ll really enjoy upping your coffee game.

    You can get an OEM WD SN740 2TB (Read-5150MB/s, Write-4850MB/s) for around $160, and it's supposedly an all-TLC drive. I used it and it works great.

    Extremely well executed video :) from my understanding, this not only increases storage space but also speed, right?

    • @TaylorBrauer
      @TaylorBrauer  6 місяців тому

      Thank you! I love to hear that. On paper it can increase the speed, but personally, I haven’t noticed any difference in speeds. The drives that ship with these are already very fast.

    Nice walkthrough! Now that you have more storage in your glossy oled, which screen has become your daily driver? I am torn making a decision

    • @TaylorBrauer
      @TaylorBrauer  6 місяців тому +1

      The matte screen, surprisingly. There's too many situations where the glare is more distracting than anything else. I also don't see a very large difference between the glossy colors and the matte colors.

    Hi, I love your video and pretty simple explanation, but this video is different from the other, because you didn’t unplugged the left screw of the ribbon cable, is it safe to do that? I still afraid to upgrade my SD oled because of that step

    • @TaylorBrauer
      @TaylorBrauer  7 місяців тому +1

      Taking extra steps to get that ribbon cable out of the way is going reduce the risks of damaging it. Do what you feel is comfortable as long as you can avoid damage to that ribbon cable.

    • @TaylorBrauer
      @TaylorBrauer  7 місяців тому

    damn... valve made it harder to upgrade :( I just got my rog ally Z1E. unplugging the battery, and putting the ssd it's so easy with the ifix it tools!.

    • @TaylorBrauer
      @TaylorBrauer  2 місяці тому

      It's not as easy as upgrading the Ally like you mentioned. I do appreciate that we have the option to upgrade the OLED Steam Deck and not compromise the structural integrity. That wasn't the case with the LED Steam Deck.

    • @netrodex
      @netrodex 2 місяці тому

      @@TaylorBrauer wait... why it's not so easy? the only tricky thing it's the disconnect the battery, but with the right tools it's no sweat. you meant that?

    Do you know if the steam deck bag prevents static? I was thinking about using it like you did, but I'm worried about the fabric causing static

    • @TaylorBrauer
      @TaylorBrauer  5 місяців тому +1

      I don't believe the Deck's carrying case causes static build up that could potentially harm the device. It should be safe in there from everything except for being waterlogged by a hurricane or crushed by a sumo wrestler. YMMV in those particular instances.

    I've heard that the Steam Deck gets much hotter with the SSD and the battery drains faster. Do you have any experience? wanted to install my 1tb SSD today.

    512 GB to 1 TB doesn't seem like that big of an upgrade, especially with how large games are now. 2 TB 2230 has come down a lot, why not 2 TB.

    • @TaylorBrauer
      @TaylorBrauer  8 місяців тому +1

      2TB is a good amount of space. If you can find a deal and need the space then 2TB makes sense.

    I have a lot of games and programs on an external storage card. Will I lose them when I change the SSD?

    • @TaylorBrauer
      @TaylorBrauer  2 місяці тому +1

      If you have a game library on an external drive it should sync after re-install with a new internal SSD. Be sure to research how to do this before you replace the drive. As for programs, probably not since those interface closer to the OS. You'll most likely have to re-install those programs.

      @@All404G00d Ah you mean taking your old drive, putting it in an enclosure, and then playing games off that from the new internal drive? I'm not 100% sure tbh but if you point Steam to that game library I'd be surprised if you couldn't play games off it.
