Good work. Great to see the progress. Like the fact that you used a sparkie's screwdiver for circlip removal and bigger screwy for nut locktab removal. One wheel I bought at a fleamarket I set the rim on a coonara woodstove , and not to upset the girlfriend by soaking the spokes with WD 40, I used her essential oils and over the course of an hour I dripped the oil on the spokes as I rotated the warmed up rim. By bedtime the spokes came off like they had waxed threads and the room smelled sweet as. Got a good, later model gold anodised rim for $5 plus labour. Bought an XT new in 79 and liked them ever since. Have owned 5 of them.

Might be an idea to measure rim offset before you the spokes out.

On the rear wheel the offset is not that crytical, you cant respoke it pretty out offset. This is different on the XT500 front wheel, on this you really need to measure the offset before taking it appart. ;-)

Wow this rear wheel really looks bad. Our´s did look better but allso ended up cutting all the ruty spokes to get it appart. The part you took out at about 9:05 is NOT supposed to be there. This looks like a distance ring to compensate a worn out sealing plane. Looks like pretty much work to get this wheel overhauled.
