  • In this episode of 'BEHIND THE SOUND', I sit down with the great man himself, Mr. ‪@AndySeymour‬, and discuss what happened in the lead up to the ‪@singitliveworld‬ recording of 'You've Lost That Lovin' Feeling'. I can assure you that there was no love lost in the studio that day. I also nerd out with some music theory.

So… when I said “key” of the Hall & Oates version I meant the “arrangement”, it was the key of the Long John Baldrey version… oops!
Great song! Thanks for watching 🎵

Mr smooth is back , I actually preferred Long John Baldry and Kathy McDonald’s version / cover off this song which I’m sure Mr smooth is attempting to sing REO low like Long John 😉 Good job .

I always thought this song just begged to be done as a male/female duet but wasn't aware of the Long John Baldrey/Kathy McDonald version, just the Flack/Hathaway attempt that deviated too much from the original Righteous Brothers version that everyone knows and loves. Darren not only got the arrangement and key right but picked the perfect combination of voices and styles, backed with the usual superb musicianship. By the way, according to legend, Phil Spector contributed that bridge that you like so much ;-) Thanks for the BTS look and listen - and congrats in nailing such a great performance in just two takes, the RB spent 8 hours and many takes to get the vocals right. More time for the SIL stars to enjoy the pigs trotters and fried grasshoppers!

SingIt Live is phenomenal, and Darren is a master at his craft! I am always blown away by his attention to detail, which results in a final product that stands out and sounds remarkable each time I listen with my headphones on. If you listen to the SingIt Live catalog of hits, I think you will agree that this is a collection of some of the best performances and music anywhere in the industry, and I do mean that sincerely.

Aw - Darren? Bloody genius at getting that sound from a great 'all in studio at once' reality from a long time ago. I have a great admiration for the guy. SingitLive is a must for me, it reminds me so much of my youth and thrashing out an arrangement in some chilly British hall. Trying to make it sound the best, often (always?) with kit that was less than ideal! But we did it and played on... The four or five of us still breathing still make an effort to do something. My taste these days is sort of 'jazz' - I know, but it's what I do best now, although I can still go out and play some rock, and be quite convincing!!
I am a fan of Mel and of Andy, great voices, and consider everyone I see on SingitLive to be bloody splendid! I haven't tried it but, I wonder if YT would give me enough space to say all I'd love to say about you guys???
My postition presently is that of a carer to my partner of 53 years, Annie. We met when I was working the North East of England in 1972. The band and I walked into the late night club after our work was done and on our way to the bar at the back, almost collided with three ladies who were in carefree land and, being predatory at that time, dived in!! So, sorry for the trailer, love your channel... carry on :))) Rich UK :)

I for one enjoyed your nerding out on the keys, the tuning you used etc. Because I am so much more familiar with the Righteous Brothers version the key that Darren chose seemed a bit "off" at the beginning, but in a song like this you have to get the key just right for the voices that you have. I just re-watched the Long John Baldry/Kathy MacDonald version again and that reminded me that I did like that version at the time. Keep up the good work.

Seria muito presunção e fazer simplesmente uma copia de um clássico, seria idêntico va um play back e não ficaria legal, a interpretação de Melissa e e Andy foi otima e seu trabalho Craft foi
    fantástico. Eu gostei muito. 🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷

So the next thing I need to do right now is pay respects to the effort that goes into each and every sing it live production. There are so many parts to the end product and none of it works without every personal adding their special talent. Darren is clearly a modern day genius with his mixing and this Version of "you've lost that loving feeling" with the incomparable Mel and Andy compares to anything out there - Have you seen this version Crafty? - ua-cam.com/video/pLqSHoTumgo/v-deo.html

When u are in the Righteous Brothers Version, u listen and think 🤔 something wrong ??? Well, I didn't know the other versions, but by knowing by ur explanations, it makes sense 💡and feeling allright with it👍
I like and prefer cover versions with the "personal touch", according to the performing musicians. Therefore it's just the right thing to choose the key the singers need to perform relaxed and best. As having been a singer and drummer with a little knowledge of playing guitar, I know the "key prob" of guitarists and horn section 🙈😂 and only a few professionals can play it in all keys, so u need to look for whom to make it best and comfortable.
Listening to "sing it live" I love and adore the mixing style of Darren (would do it the same way) and the selection of the musicians to perform a song, and it's fantastic to see, hear and feel the range of musicians, participating in that project.
And what I like too, is that all pieces have that "little touch of rough rock"!
A special and big THX to u for making those making ofs 😁👍it's interresting and nice to learn a little bit more about the musicians beside their performing, as I saw ur interview with Zkye I'm more in love with her than only with her special voice 🤫🤭
It's very interesting to watch the different styles of singing and playing and the individual peformance of moving and behavior of the girls and boys 😁❣ For me it's always great fun and pleasure to watch u dancing with ur guitar 👍👍 By the way, ur singing performance of "Don't you" for me it's like heaven, I like this version more than the original !!! and ur drumming part in "the best" was solid and 👍,only the fill ins could have been a little bit more powerful.
At least ( I wrote it already in my comment for the song ) in the middle part , within a second dropped "Hang on sloopy" by the McCoys into my mind, cuz it's the same tempo ( as u showed the hamonies are often used)
Maybe u can talk to Darren to make some mashups of 2 songs or more with the same harmonies, I've seen any interestings on UA-cam, but just an idea, keep on doing ur stuff as u like and prefer it, it's great and big fun, thx again a lot !!!! 🙏💓
PS. I hope my English is good enough to understand, unfortunately I lack the practice of good and precise communication.

I agree as I know the Righteous Bros. version and Hall & Oates never heard the other. At first it sounded like something was just a hair offf and then it all came together. After hearing the explanation I now understand and appreciate it more.

Great arrangement... I was not a fan of the original, probably because it was so over played at the time.
You have added new life to the song and I enjoyed listening to it again for the first time.
I would like to see more camera angles in the videos.
    Thanks and stay safe.

Darren you are the Master and I really appreciate your work. Have you ever had a Sing it Live song yet you have had to dump because you couldn't pull it together?
Thanks Crafty great little music lesson there, what happens if you were to go on to play this song in a SING it LIVE Live Gig, would you have to go back and relearn it in the open tuning or would you take a guitar along just for this song that is tuned down?
And when will you have Damian and Jan on for a chat?

Hey guys amazing as always, just one comment, vocals sounded a bit distant and Mels voice very compressed (hard to listen to) it's bit better here, but not as good on the original, maybe its just me......

    • @producernerd
      @producernerd 3 місяці тому +1

We use regular dynamic microphones (the kind bands use inm a live performance) as opposed to studio valve/condenser microphones and that does limit the depth of tone b ut allows us to all perform in the same room. Another factor why Mel's voice is thinner is her mic technique. She is singing higher and pushes the mic away while Andy is singing close and low register. If I add more bass to Mel's microphone then it lets in the whole band in the background and ruins the whole mix. I simply have to do the best I can every session 🤷🏼‍♂

Unless you always use lowered tuning , A flat or E flat always kinda sucks especially when playing songs like "Feeling" which always sounds best with open or resonating chord voicings. Blame it on Phil Spector's "Wall Of Sound" obsession.
