I made this many times and my family loves it. Usually fry the fillings until not too dry as it will dry out further while cooling. Thanks for the great recipe and easy to follow instructions!
Thanks for sharing. I always buy these pastries when I go back to Msia. Absolutely my fav. Unfortunately due to Corona i haven’t gone home for 3 years. Now need to learn this to stop my “missing”. 💐💐💐感谢你 💐💐💐
Thanks for the recipe. It is easily my favorite snack any time of the day. Used to buy a bunch back whenever I return to M'sia. For a while there was a Supermarket365 in New Jersey, USA, that I can order from. They are no longer in business. So, I may have to resort to making them myself since it is not available in California. Your easy to follow recipe will come in handy.
Thanks for the recipe. My favorite snack. I gonna try to make them myself.

Just made this! The filling is so delicious I could eat it with a spoon! But the pastry is quite a lot for just 12 pieces. If i make this recipe again, personally I would made 18 pieces out of it... it's really quite big.

I am looking at making sweet mung bean filling instead of the savoury one. Would it work well with your pastry recipe? Also, do you think we can make the pastry dough ahead of time?
Sweet mung bean filling should be fine. I haven't tried preparing the dough ahead.
@@MyKitchen101en thank you for your reply? 😉
Hi may I know if 200degC oven is with fan on or off? Thanks
My oven is convection oven, it is with fan on.
I got weight of filling. So for the water/oil dough do u divide the total weight of oil/water dough by 12 portions in this case here. Thanks for your kind response.
Yes, divide into 12 equal portions.
Excellent 👌👌

Hi, Nice to know you. Celine here.Enjoyed watching this Tau Sar Piah video. This biscuit is considered as a sweet or salty biscuit ?
Actually it tastes sweet with a hint of saltiness.
plain flour tu flour ape?hong kong flour ke or superfine flour?
Tepung gandum.
Hi, may I know if it's alright to replace lard with butter?
You may use shortening or ghee (clarified butter), normal butter is not that suitable.
Hi, if I were to double the portion of the beans do I have to soak it first and still steam it for 20 mins or longer time? Thank you
Steaming the beans with water for 20 mins should be ok, split mung beans soften easily, no need to soak.
@@MyKitchen101en Thank you

Haven't tried yet, but you may try adapt from this recipe, just omit the shallot and reduce the salt and increase the amount of sugar if needed.

But if I don't want to use lard and the egg wash what else can I use to replace it... 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
You may use shortening to replace the lard. You may omit the egg wash.
Omg my favorite tau sar piah! I'm from Penang and normally I got it from Ghee Hiang or Him Heang but Now I can make it myself from Cairns, Aust. Btw, could you please confirm if I can make the tau sar filling a day before? Many thanks.
I think should be ok , shape them into balls first and keep refrigerated.
@@MyKitchen101en Perfect and thank you for sharing the recipe...Many thanks!! :)
Hi, can you show us how to make brown sugar biscuits, tge Penang kind
Haven't tried this yet, will consider it later.
@@MyKitchen101en do hope u can. Tqs
Hi
My kitchen 101en.
Tau sa pia.
You make this pastry skin soft ma
The mung bean paste can i put a little bit Pandan juice. i like some green Pandan flavour. How many ml put. Now i waiting u reply me ok thanks 🙂
Yes you can. You may try blend 1-2 pcs of pandan leaves with water, and use it to steam the mung bean.
When freshly baked, the skin is not soft, it will soften after 1-2 days.
i just made this but the skin feels so dry.. shoul i add more water a few drops
The water absorption capacity for different brand of flour is different. If your water dough is drier, add in more cold water until it reaches the consistency as shown in the video. If your oil dough is drier, add in more lard. You may replace lard with pure ghee/clarified butter or shortening.

Fork lard bole diganti mentega putih
Boleh guna shortening.
Wow, that's the most time consuming pastry to make ever. I wonder how can they sell this stuff so cheap in stores...
Yeah, I'm fasting today and got a sudden craving for this. I watch to try and make (as if) 😅 but tak jadi make myself coz now I know even with the instant mungbean paste bought from bakery supply, still many steps to go... My God, the layers are even harder than 'karipap pusing'. Ok now going to TF Mart to buy instant one😄😄 Thanks for this video
Green or yellow mung beans?
Buy split mung bean which the skin has been removed.
How to make sweet mung bean paste??

How long to soak mung bean untill the skin dress off?
I use se store-bought split mung bean.

Biasa habis dalam 2-3 hari, tak pernah simpan lama, boleh cuba masuk peti sejuk mungkin boleh tahan lama sikit.
Is the mung beans same as dhal beans? I may have bought the wrong beans 😓
It is usually labelled as "mung bean dhal" or "green bean dhal" or "split mung bean" or "split mung dhal".
