- Kennin-ji is the oldest Zen temple in Kyoto. It's located just south of Kyoto's famous Gion geisha district, 10 minutes from Kawaramachi Station. The temple serves as one of the head temples of the Rinzai sect of Japanese Buddhism.
Kennin-ji was founded by Eisai, a Buddhist monk who introduced both Zen Buddhism and tea culture to Japan upon returning from study trips to China. The temple was constructed in 1202.

It is so amazing to see this lovely Zen temple without a ton of people. Some people say Japan in the rain is the best but Japan in the sun is also amazing!
Most people will pass in front of Kennin-ji temple on their way to Gion or Yasaka like I did several times. I'm glad I finally got a chance to visit this temple. It's really a great place, especially on a sunny day with few people around.
The soft winter sunshine, the angle at which the video is taken, and the overall composition bring out the splendor of Kenninji Temple.
Watching this video makes me want to visit Kenninji Temple surrounded by the silence of winter. It's just beautiful!!!
Thank you for your beautiful words! If you get a chance, now is a perfect time to visit Kennin-ji
