THIS is what the Estate should be pursuing and remastering and releasing. THIS is what fans want and will BUY. There is only one singer who EVER could do this. This was what made Whitney THE VOICE.
Always get so annoyed when 'they' start talking about the new Whitney Houston, like with Glennis Grace or Charice. LISTEN to this..there will never be a new Whitney Houston. She's the greatest there ever was.
That makes three of us! Whitney had a much stronger voice. Her tone's much richer/fuller and warmer. When Glennis sings the high notes and when she belts, she sounds rather sharp. *Nobody will ever be the new Whitney Houston.* Even if there's someone with the exact same voice, she still ain't (the new) Whitney. *Whitney Elizabeth Houston was much more than a voice and great performer.* Whitney poured from her personal emotion and influences and makes you feel what's in her heart & soul.
Those two you mentioned havent a patch on Queen Whitney's Voice, she is the Gold standard of Real singing,No one can be the next Whitney, there is only one.
Only one Whitney. I'm so grateful to have grown up when these few talented superstars graced stages. Whitney raised the bar and paved the way for a new generation but none of them are nowhere near Whitney, never!
Whitney in her prime.. behind a live microphone with a piano. A lot of people can sing very well. And a lot of people can brilliantly cover a song and give you the feels. And a lot of people can get a number one hit and win a Grammy. But when Whitney puts down her live vocals on any song, there's not a dead or living soul that could've or could come anywhere close to this talent. Whitney Houston is the greatest singer that ever lived.
@@markdrinkwater1508 I hate to break it to you, but you may need to go get your ears tested.. you're on your own on this one LOL. Or, you haven't a musical ear so shouldn't be involved in this discussion. Aretha knew Whitney was much better than she was. As quoted by Aretha "Whitney Houston was one the greatest singer to ever step before a microphone". She said "one" as Aretha was quite arrogant and liked to think herself as the greatest, but she knew she wasn't. She was jealous of Cissy's daughter, Whitney. So you're ill-description of Whitney above^ is completely void. No one could hit a note the way Whitney did. There's a difference between hitting the highest note on record and hitting a note like Whitney did. Everyone wanted a chest, mixed and head voice like Whitney. There's not a lot of singers who score full marks across their vocal, and she did. And I pity you, if you're unable to understand this.
@@1510km You nut, every singer and musician Iver the last 60 years lauds Franklin as the greatest, including Whitney momma. Every radio poll, every music industry magazine poll, they all place Atetha as having by far the greatest most influential voice in recording history. MARVIN HAMLISCH (composer) "When you're a composer you wait for someone [sic] to sing your song just the way you have tonight. Incredible. Miss WHITNEY HOUSTON!"
Thanx, dude :). i had to relisten, it was hard to hear that part clearly lol I couldn't hear it rt now my laptop speakers, but in the earphones i could hear it clearly :-x
What a special compliment from one artist to another. The best compliments are from your peers. I don't know anything about him but maybe he's a famous talents Broadway composer? I don't care for that stuff. But this is so sublime, I might see what else he's written. And I think it was so classy the way he let you know he was the composer. We could all emulate his kind, wholesome sincere and elegant demeanor. Ugh and I'm such trash lol!
I was at that dinner and have searched for a video several times since she died. I'm so glad one's been posted. It was one of the most remarkable performances for a number of reasons: the setting, the surprise as she walked through the tables to the stage, her unequaled voice, Marvin Hamlisch on the piano, the choir, and I was sitting a table away from the stage. I think I watched and listened with my mouth agape. She looked gorgeous, and oh, that voice!
Her voice was powerful and golden. Everyone was awestruck. I wish there had been a professional recording of that evening, because, no, the only one we have does not do her justice. But, I am so glad to have it! When I happen upon one of her ballads in the car, I turn it up very loud to hear every quality of her voice.
Despite being violated in many ways since early childhood, Whitney brought lots of goodnesses and light into this world. Whitney was a true humanitarian that helped lot's of people privately and supported many foundations for sick, disabled, abused, poor,..... children and adults. *Whitney supported these and many other charity organizations.* American Foundation for AIDS Research Caudwell Children Celebrity Fight Night Foundation Children's Defense Fund Keep A Child Alive Muhammad Ali Parkinson Center Red Cross Save The Music Foundation Special Olympics United Negro College Fund United Service Organization Emmanuel Cancer Foundation Hale House Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation Ronald McDonald House Feingold Center for Children Deirdre O'Brien Child Advocacy Center The Princess Trust Rainforest Foundation And many others....
@@lindseycarribean5113 The list of violations is long. Whitney's demise started the day she was sexually abused as a very young child and all the other violations against her that never ended! *Whitney had many very painful childhood memories. These are just a few of them.* - She was bullied verbally and physically and socially excluded by black and white kids a lot between the age 6 and 18. She was often chased after by groups of kids who threatened her to beat her up. Kids pulling her hair, breaking her glasses and other stuff happened frequently. For the darker skinned kids she didn't look black enough (her skin was lighter than theirs, hair was longer and not afro enough to them, thinner lips....). To the white kids, Whitney looked too black. Cissy dressed Whitney with beautiful more expensive looking clothes and Whitney was also bullied for that. As a teenager she took an old jeans and t shirt with her to wear at school to prevent being bullied. - Whitney's paternal grand father treated her and her brothers badly because of their skin color. Whitney's father has a white looking sun from his first marriage. When Whitney was just a toddler, her grandfather gave ice cream to his White looking grandchild and none to Whitney and brothers Michael & Gary. He also said he didn't love them as much. - Whitney's parents lived in a dangerous neighborhood plagued by drugs and gang wars. As a very young child Whitney and her family often had to lie down on the floor to prevent bullets killing them in their own home. Her parents moved out of that neighborhood as soon as they could. - The divorce of her parents was also painful and difficult to process as young child. As an adult the mental and physical violations never ended. - racism. - colorism. - betrayal by people (incl. friends and even family) Whitney thought she could trust. - relentlessly hunted and haunted by the press. - mental and physical abused by Bobby Brown. - At least 4 miscarriages. the first on set of The Bodyguard. Before Whitney had the chance talking about it herself, someone had told the press. - a victim of several stalkers that threatened to kill her/harm her loved ones. - .... Whitney had many very painful childhood and adult trauma's that pushed her towards numbing substances.😭 People kept violating her till the day she died and many vile scum are still doing it!😡😞 Though Whitney had everything when it comes to talent and beauty, her personal life was a far cry from that. 😭 *Whitney's addictions were the result of psychological traumas that started very early in her childhood and the immense* *pain she carried never ended!* On the surface it seems like Whitney had it all, but as person she didn't. Whitney fought a long and very hard fight against her demons that she couldn't win! *Substance abuse is an illness in Whitney's case and also millions of people suffering mental issues.*
@@ninamo7969 All that is very sad and racism is without a doubt the biggest wound of america who hasn’t been heal yet. That colorism is just bs. To god, lighter, darker we are all beautiful. This stupid thing creates insecurity. This is the leftovers of slavery. In an interview, she said that she had a good childhood. Her father seemed to be protective and her mother very caring. She trained her before getting into this industry. That said, I read that her mother used to take drugs when she was a back singer, probably even when she was pregnant of whitney. There’s this rumor that she was molested by a family member ? The drug problem might be in her genes before she ever came to earth. She also had legal issues with her father who asked millions of $$$$$$$$$. But you know what ? I have pain from kristina. Poor child.
At her very best, La Whitney married pop and gospel with the control, resonance and phrasing of an operatic singer. She had exquisite control over her vast range in every pocket of her voice. She never needed to over sing because her voice was limitless at its very best. Performances like this are the reason that I don't debate about who the "greatest" is. There have been many great singers, but Whitney sang at the highest level of greatness and virtuosity.
Exactly! *Whitney Elizabeth Houston is a once in human existence miracle/gift that must be cherished for our future generations to* *hear and see what true greatness and vocal divinity sounds like!* Whitney Elizabeth Houston will forever be The Queen of Music! It's not only her 'out of this world' voice. The way she sang makes you feel what's in her heart & soul through her voice and touches very deeply. Whitney's great personality and her background of Gospel, Soul, R&B, Jazz, Opera etc set her apart from all the others.
Whitney's voice is so bombastic the piano in the background almost seems non existent lol. The power, the clarity, the resonance, *that tone* , the raw emotion. I've died and gone to heaven ❤
STILL not over this. This is by FAR the greatest example of her vocal control. The way she glided through those mid belts and even hit TWO F5s without taking too many breaths all while on the same vocal line. This woman was OUT of this world. The greatest.
Like many of Whitney's live performances, you can hear her true Heart & Soul through her voice. I've heard this song countless times and still she touches me in the depths of my true Heart & Soul. *Whitney Elizabeth Houston is a once in human existence miracle/gift that must be cherished for our future generations to hear and see* *what true greatness and vocal divinity sounds like!*
Ear plug things are in ear monitors so you can hear yourself singing. Without them you cannot perform live. In ear monitors are a more modern version of stage monitors. Stage monitors are loudspeakers placed about the venue, near the performers, so they can hear themselves sing. Without a doubt Whitney had monitors of some sort during this performance.
@@biggityboggityboo8775 Were they in her ear? If you had taken 5 seconds to truly read my comment I never said "no stage monitors"...I said "no ear plug things" Lol...so you wasted your time writing on the history of ear/stage monitors. Enjoy the video🤣🤣
@@biggityboggityboo8775 Thank you for telling me how I was saying something. The reality is she had nothing in her ears and still maintained perfect pitch. The end. Enjoy.😎
wow, when I thought she couldn't get any better, something tells me we haven't seen the best of Whitney .God knows how many other brilliant Whitney performances are out there. This was really breathtaking
If you found anything like this performance please send the link! I hope more would be posted on UA-cam, let this generation learn what music and extraordinary talent is!
6:18 no ones gonna talk about how she does vibrato and then full on straight resonance and then vibrato again? she has an amazing lungs no wonder why she is called “THE VOICE”
The way she could literally play with her vibrato and place it in or out anywhere in any moment or phrase was second to none. She was too good for pop music really. Only songs like this gave her the room to really spread her wings vocally.
Sorry to any artist, but this entire performance showcased breath control on an astronomical scale that absolutely NOBODY has ever demonstrated in contemporary music!!!!
This would be as big as "Higher Love" if the vocals were isolated, cleaned and cleared up, echo taken out, feedback removed, etc. It's a beautifully performed song by Whitney in her prime.
I agree with you in the sense that Whitney is one of the few artists who have that special tone, especially in her prime. Diana Ross had it too in her prime, and clarity and appropriate soul that's heartfelt. Celine is good but hers is more contrived and she actually sounds like she's copying off a black woman. Mariah is also very good but can overdo things at times.
Surely the Whitney Houston Estate could digitally re-master this vocal with additional instrumentation and release it as single....... ? This is truly stunning and showcased her voice perfectly.
There must be a better recording. This was an important event and the president was there. I really hope there's a better version very soon. This performance keeps drawing me in and bring tears in my eyes. Even after 6 years it still hurts so much that Whitney didn't have the life she deserved and died so young.
I swear. Her voice was absolutely breathtaking in any range and any dynamic level. I was so blessed to see her in 2000. The closest thing to perfection that I could ever even imagine.
Performances like this one prove how divine Whitney's voice really was. A lot of singers have great voices, but it's a true gift & art to touch people the way Whitney did.
Whitney was THE singer. Although her voice could do anything, it was her remarkable tone that set her apart from her peers. This performance signifies exactly what I’m talking about. #GOAT
Well that's actually her in the 4th octave, the note is a Bb4. I think her from g#4-c#5 was her golden zone belting wise (up to a f5 she was also brilliant and sometimes even beyond)
This lady was Truly Angelic, No singer on Earth ever sung as Beautiful, Diverse and Almost super human and angelic as she did. She Truly had a Very Special Gift from the Most High. which stood out far above her peers
GREAT performance, I have watched a lot of Whitney Houston's live performances on stage since she passed away (13 years ago) but first time I watch this one, it's one of the greatest of hers, like combines all of her singing abilities in one song! So much power, energy, richness...etc Thanks for posting
You put Celine, Mariah and Whitney in their prime, but still Whitney will drown them. her voice is out of this world when it comes to live performance.
Performances like this one are what separates Whitney from other great diva's. You hear what's in her heart & soul through her voice. Her voice was as perfect as it can be for a pop singer. All qualities in just one voice. What i like the most is the fact that her voice was so stunningly gorgeous throughout the entire range - and at all volumes!!!I do not think of any other big voice which can remain "Beautiful" while traveling through dramatic passages.

I know you did not refer to Whitney Houston as a pop singer!? You can NOT have a voice like that and think its derived from pop. She was a gospel singer first and foremost. She settled her voice to pop when she became famous because her label wanted her to do pop. That's why her voice is so powerful in her songs, the way she kills gospel like her famous gospel mother, pop would have never been hard for her to sing.
I think this post, in it's self is both the problem and reason Whitney is so successful. Yes she can do every genre of music, so she can't really be labeled, as she said "if you can sing, you can sing any genre of music!". Just to clarify, Gospel and R&B singers don't normally sing with clarity or are they know for their diction, Pop singers to some degree sing with clarity as they appeal to the masses. Whitney isn't giving us neither Pop or R&B, she is in full classic Broadway mode meant to reach the back if the theatre!
wow this is rare Whitney was out of this world,a beautiful angelic Voice than was a gift.she is the greatest voice of all Time.this gave me goose bumps.
I cant get over the beauty of this song. The words, arrangement. I remember Tevin Campbell doing a fine job of this song. But Whitney, oh my. Even with the poor quality video her voice is amazing and she lends emotion and such poise to the presentation. Shall we mention how hauntingly beautiful she was at this event RIP Whitney you are missed
You have made a lot of folks happy by sharing the video/audio of this performance that many of us have only read about. Thanks for sharing this with the rest of us.
The fluid singing..The total control through her registers, the placement of her voice? Is she using a kind of classical technique? My GAWD..The resonance..The long belts...
Best Voice , Ever. Loved me, some Whitney Houston. There is no other .RIP Queen of Voices, thanks , for all your, love & dedication to your public. We might as you dearly.
She was really something special, wasn’t she!? Looking back at video like this really is stunning to me. The choir sounds amazing- can you only imagine how this sounded live?❤❤ Her Star Spangled Banner is STILL the best rendition ever!
Imagine writing a song and you have the priviledge of Whitney covering it.. and you happen to accompany her at the piano. How good must Marvin of felt at this moment. Wow. What a moment.
Glennis Grace... Who? Like seriously... people would consider her the reborn of Whitney Houston. What on earth is happening to these people to have the audacity to utter shit like this... lol The POWER, TIMBRE, RESONANCE, PROJECTION, VIBRATO in her voice is an excellent pinnacle of showcasing her top-notch talents as a vocalis.. Let alone comparing her to Glennis..
Thank you Alvin, and please continue to keep preaching TRUTH! That title of 'Whitney Houston Reborn' to describe Glennis Grace gets on my nerves. Yes, she's a good singer, but Whitney was a slice of heaven and her voice in all its' divinity can't be touched by anyone.
Alvin Loh I feel so disrespected when I see or hear some one comparing Whitney to her. Whitney could not be touched. Here in this performance you should all know why the name "The Voice" is so accurate. Today I decided to find nothing but live performances of Whitney and I am so filled with awe. This woman would make it seem so effortlessly. There is a reason a lot of her tracks were done on one take. She will always be the golden standard. People need to stop with the foolishness when they dare say this Glennis chic is the next Whitney. Not to say she's not a good singer and yes she's done some good covers of Whitney but she is not on Whitney's level.
Though I like Glennis a lot and her voice is the closest to Whitney's, she isn't Whitney and no one ever will be. Very few singers can touch my deepest emotions, but Whitney certainly did with this performance and many others she did.
I’m weak! 😂😂 I thought I was the only one salty when I heard of that woman just a few days ago. I’m like these people done lost their minds. Also the fact that the work ethic of the past when it came to being an artist and performer is light years away from what it is today. It’s incomparable.

Absolutely stunning! So powerful, yet so effortless and graceful. Her voice really was an outstanding natural resource of exceptionally pure, clear and perfectly balanced sound. And on top of that she was stunningly beautiful as well. A truly spectacular women who we will not see the likes of again.
Her voice is a mystery, loud, piano, resonant, vibrant, metalic but warm, rich tone, perfect vibrato, precise, always in control. She was a miracle.

Those two you mentioned havent a patch on Queen Whitney's Voice, she is the Gold standard of Real singing,No one can be the next Whitney, there is only one.
Only one Whitney. I'm so grateful to have grown up when these few talented superstars graced stages. Whitney raised the bar and paved the way for a new generation but none of them are nowhere near Whitney, never!

she had the richest voice EVER
Whitney in her prime.. behind a live microphone with a piano. A lot of people can sing very well. And a lot of people can brilliantly cover a song and give you the feels. And a lot of people can get a number one hit and win a Grammy. But when Whitney puts down her live vocals on any song, there's not a dead or living soul that could've or could come anywhere close to this talent. Whitney Houston is the greatest singer that ever lived.
Well said!! 🤩🤩
Periodddd 😘
That’s not human. That’s something else coming through.
It’s incomprehensible how any being can master such a talent.
MARVIN HAMLISCH (composer) "When you're a composer you wait for someone [sic] to sing your song just the way you have tonight. Incredible. Miss WHITNEY HOUSTON!"

How incredibly lucky were you to have actually been there. My envy just went through the roof. Thanks for the description.
How powerful did her voice sound in person? Do any of these videos of her do her justice?
Her voice was powerful and golden. Everyone was awestruck. I wish there had been a professional recording of that evening, because, no, the only one we have does not do her justice. But, I am so glad to have it! When I happen upon one of her ballads in the car, I turn it up very loud to hear every quality of her voice.
What I would've given to have the honor of hearing her sing live :) I bet it was amazing
Barbara Steakley You're so lucky!! What an experience that would've been😍 xx
This voice makes me believe there's goodness in the world
Despite being violated in many ways since early childhood, Whitney brought lots of goodnesses and light into this world.
Whitney was a true humanitarian that helped lot's of people privately and supported many foundations for sick, disabled, abused, poor,..... children and adults.
*Whitney supported these and many other charity organizations.*
American Foundation for AIDS Research
Caudwell Children
Celebrity Fight Night Foundation
Children's Defense Fund
Keep A Child Alive
Muhammad Ali Parkinson Center
Red Cross
Save The Music Foundation
Special Olympics
United Negro College Fund
United Service Organization
Emmanuel Cancer Foundation
Hale House
Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation
Ronald McDonald House
Feingold Center for Children
Deirdre O'Brien Child Advocacy Center
The Princess Trust
Rainforest Foundation
And many others....
I totally agree
@@ninamo7969 violated how ?
@@lindseycarribean5113 The list of violations is long. Whitney's demise started the day she was sexually abused as a very young child and all the other violations against her that never ended!
*Whitney had many very painful childhood memories. These are just a few of them.*
- She was bullied verbally and physically and socially excluded by black and white kids a lot between the age 6 and 18.
- ....
Whitney had many very painful childhood and adult trauma's that pushed her towards numbing substances.😭 People kept violating her till the day she died and many vile scum are still doing it!😡😞
Though Whitney had everything when it comes to talent and beauty, her personal life was a far cry from that. 😭
*Whitney's addictions were the result of psychological traumas that started very early in her childhood and the immense* *pain she carried never ended!*
On the surface it seems like Whitney had it all, but as person she didn't.

Whitney Elizabeth Houston will forever be The Queen of Music! It's not only her 'out of this world' voice. I think this performance is the prime example of her vocal resonance.... the way she filled the room and her rolling vibrato.. wow
C Houston Yes..
The way her voice soared into the stratosphere...outstanding!!
Yesssss!!!💜💜💜💜
No Auto Tune, No Ear plug things, NO background singers....just a microphone, a piano, and THE VOICE!!!!

This performance keeps drawing me in and bring tears in my eyes. Even after 6 years it still hurts so much that Whitney didn't have the life she deserved and died so young.

Memories - Wonderful.

I love how effortless this is for her you can hear she is not forcing any parts of her voice it is beautiful
Best Voice , Ever. Loved me, some Whitney Houston. There is no other .RIP Queen of Voices, thanks , for all your, love & dedication to your public. We might as you dearly.
One Voice that left us a magnificent legacy of song that will never die! Whitney Elizabeth Houston, you are loved forever sweet angel!
I listen to this everyday! What a Rich and clear Voice. God really gave her a magnificent Gift. Just extraordinary. Only God can give such a Gift.
She was really something special, wasn’t she!? Looking back at video like this really is stunning to me. The choir sounds amazing- can you only imagine how this sounded live?❤❤ Her Star Spangled Banner is STILL the best rendition ever!
She really sounds like a Angel from above blessing us with Yahweh's beautiful voice. This voice will be studied for centuries to come
Love this operatic sound
I simply weep when I hear this! It’s not of this world! It’s angelic in a sense! My my my my!
Jo Buck87 we had no idea when she was alive how amazing she was. This performance, no words. Wow!!
I’m weak! 😂😂 I thought I was the only one salty when I heard of that woman just a few days ago. I’m like these people done lost their minds. Also the fact that the work ethic of the past when it came to being an artist and performer is light years away from what it is today. It’s incomparable.
oh, wow. What a treasure!

If we all sing one song
One song of love
One song of peace
One song to make all our troubles cease
One hymn, one theme, one hope, one dream
Imagine what tomorrow would bring
If we all sing one song
If we all learn the words
Just think how great the sound would be
And since the tune is in freedom's key
One voice you'd hear, so pure, so clear
Imagine what tomorrow would bring
If we all sing one song
There's just one Sun that warms our day
The same Moon and starts light our way
This little ball whirling in space
It's our only home, our only place
If we all sing one song
One song of love
One song of peace
One song to make all our troubles cease
Imagine what tomorrow would bring
If we all sing one song
If we all sing one song
One song of love
One song of peace
One song to make all our troubles cease
Imagine what tomorrow would bring
Just imagine what tomorrow would bring
Just imagine what tomorrow would bring
If we all sing
If we all sing one song
Absolutely stunning! So powerful, yet so effortless and graceful. Her voice really was an outstanding natural resource of exceptionally pure, clear and perfectly balanced sound. And on top of that she was stunningly beautiful as well. A truly spectacular women who we will not see the likes of again.
