I'm not sure an electrician actually did this... Untidy, lots of copper showing, fuse blown. DIY gone wrong? I might be wrong. Great content, great videos as always and on a roll recently, thank you.

Totally agree - no sleeving on the earth (just tape) is a giveaway and the 'quality' of those stripped ends - definitely DIY Dave. Would be interested to know if the final setup used OpenTherm ?

He also had the live and neutral the wrong way round in the boiler too and the black link from live to hot water needs to stay in for the preheat to work mate.

Great approach to collaboration at the start of this. To the public the trades have a single reputation, not split like it seems in the game. Making the end customer experience better and improving mutual respect, all round winner.

Even if the electrician didn't know what way to connect up the heating controls there is no excuse for how they terminated the connections. Does not look like something a proper electrician would do.

Mate your offer to help out the spark was really nice and a testament to you as a tradesman and a person. The electrical work was very poor mind and I think their inability to wire the nest is tip of the iceberg it would seem. No spark should be walking away from a job where the terminations were like that.

Just goes to show what a top fella you are offering to show the sparks how to wire up the nest surprising how alot off sparks can't do them, when I started in the building game there was more people willing to work together but that's changed..

Vaillant have changed from a solid copper connection to the expansion vessel to that flexible connection hence the vessel rattling around. Wait till the vessel loses its charge and the flexible hose bursts!! More cost cutting by Vaillant even though their prices are going up monthly!!

Even PBs not done it right, 1 used cable to go back to boiler
      2. Doubt he used the Live out to supply the external controls, looked like he used the black wire from Live on the wall
      3. The Live link was incorrect and the single Live back in the cable ?
4,the L/N supply and Live return should all come from that connection from the boiler then its all protected from external electrical faults.
      5. All cables must be earthed at least 1 end eg even if the stat clock etc has no earth, the cable/flex must be earthed at the boiler end.
That original wiring was no electrician

    No sleeving on the earth.
    No ferrels.
Using t+e when flex was more that capable.
    couldn't read a basic schematic saying in/out.
he could have blown the 💩 outta the main pcb!!
It's bad when the plumber has more materials to do
the electrical work than the spark!!
This isn't a disrespectful comment too PB because he
    done a tidy job 👌🏼

Its easier and cheaper for the customer to fit an external expansion vessel rather than messing around on those CI's.. If they have the right space for it. Most times they can be recharged though but the vessel hoses tend to block up on them too, so always worth checking that

  • @MartynDuerden
    @MartynDuerden 2 роки тому

Not great at not sounding like a knob sometimes so sorry for that.... but as you say in the sprit of learning...
It appears that you have at least one cable without an earth in it, electrical regs require that all mains cables have a continuous earth to all points (even if the device itself does not require it) the cable requires the earth to facilitate ADS.
Also unused cores should be earthed as the effects of capacitive coupling will cause them to raise above earth potential.
The earth you had in the supply black flex probably needed connecting to the one in the white flex at the other end, though that cable is 12v if I recall!
All that said the Nests are absolute rubbish devices.
Last one I fitted was on a worcester and they wanted controls supply from the boiler not direct from spur so I just ran a 5c flex and a 2c for the stat.

Hi Pete or is it Blue, an old chest-freezer works well... Try and focus on what your body is feeling, translate the pain into information and you can moderate it at will, don't fight it and in no time it will be the highlight of your day. If you drop the gym for yoga-style sessions, eat once a day, and meditate you will double your physical strength, endurance, and general wellbeing. If your body relied upon your conscience thinking to learn to walk, you would still be crawling
